Fightnews has been hyping this fight that the untrained reader could think this wasn't in fact yet another completely meaningless tomato can fight for Briggs. It's beyond me that he is ranked at the No. 5 stop with the WBO.
Briggs will always be in my memory not for his short reign as WBO champion but as Vitalis punching bag. I mean let's face it, he got the lucky punch in against Lyakhovic, being behind on all scorecards. What has Lyakhovic done since losing the title? F**k all, that's what he's done. He beat a paper champ, was a paper champ, got beaten by the next paper champ.
Did I hear that correctly that he calls himself a "two time heavyweight champion" in the statement about the ex-champ meetup? Is he really that delusional that he brags about the "lineal" title he got for his gift decision win against Foreman? Or that meaningless IBU title a few years later?
Vitali against Briggs was the worst one sided beating I have ever seen in a heavyweigt fight that went the distance. Period. He was hoping for the haymaker all night and ate a lot of leather for it.
Being ranked by the WBO at position 5 by beating a bunch of journeymen shows the sad state this organisation is falling back to. Once Wladimir is gone, and we all know that he is on his way out, the WBO title will be the fringe title again that it was when Vitali first claimed it from Hide back in 1999. The champion made the title in Wladmirs case, not the other way round. Maybe the WBO tries create enough noise with "their" contender to put their market value up again. Anyway, Too many challengers have relied on Wladimirs questionable chin and ate his jab for the duration of the fight. Briggs tried this agains Vitali and got mauled. Been there, done that, no need to repeat that. Briggs needs to fight ranked fighters if he wants to prove he is still relevant, not because of his big mouth and harrassing the champion with his publicity stunts. If I want to see that kind of nonsense I watch wrestling. Briggs is putting all his money on a last payday, he will not risk stepping up. Which in my book means, no title shot. Then again, what is the IBU title doing these days? How about you make that happen, champ?
In any case I am so sick and tired hearing about Briggs and his horseshit fights.

He got KTFO against Wilder ! But apart from that good post sums up what I think about Briggs anyway. Hope he does fight a contender and gets KTFO himself wonder if he will get drugs tested though .........

Why not Briggs vs Wilder? An all American WBC title fight with the loser fading to obscurity, and the winner more qualified to fight Vladimir.

Tarver & Guillermo Jones said they would fight him. Both are in his age group. Tarver has a decent case to be in the mix for a title shot. At least he beat a top 30 HW in Banks & should have got the decision vs Cunningham. Tarver deserves another big fight against a contender in an eliminator. I'm sure he will try & get a title shot but at least he went 1-0-1 vs credible HWs. Briggs hasn't done anything. Get a win over Alex Leapai or Malik Scott & then he may be considered.

i much preferred Brigg's bum of the month tour in the run up to the liacovich shot.

he should fight some average unbeaten american novices...nothing wrong with that

All jokes aside Briggs probably brings a half decent payday with little risk.
I'm surprised there isn't a queue of heavyweights wanting to fight him.
I've actually started to find his LETS GO CHAMP antics entertaining. Him on his speedboat knocking Wlad off his board was comedy gold.

I hope Briggs fights Luis Ortiz, at 17 october and TBH I really don't care who of the two wins.

Luis Ortiz failed a drugstest against his only serious opponend yet and that's why I don't like him.
Briggs shouldn't chase belts, he should fight people his size.

I think it would be a fair match for both.

Billy Wright could be a nice opponend as well.

If he wins both he might deserve a shot at Cunningham, Tarver, or Mansour.

I disagree with the speedboat part.
If you're trained and feel hot and then suddenly fall in cold water there's a big chance of receiving a cramp.
When you got a cramp when you're surrounded by 100 meters of water you're in serious lifedanger.

Klitschko is trained, must have felt hot and was alone with about 100 meters of water around him.

My grandfather lost a 18 year old friend because of cramp (in his time they often swam around in natural water), they were with a group and they thought he was just joking. He died completely unexpected, his friend was a strong, healthy, fit teenager.
If you ever sun for a long time and then jump into a swimming pool or in the sea or whatever you're risking your life, especially when you're very muscled and have no fat on your body.

Unfortunately, Briggs wouldn't get near Ortiz.

I'm sure there are, but Briggs won't fight any of them. So far the only public name I've seen that turned down an alleged Briggs offer was Wilder which isn't really that surprising.

Huh? Briggs can punch. Tarver has little power, and does't move as well as he used to.

Briggs would win this one. Since neither is going to fight a top ten guy, they should meet in the ring.

Everyone knows Briggs is a dangerous puncher, which is why he isn't getting a match with a top ten guy. The risk is high, and the reward is too low.

I actually really disagree, I think there's really a good chance Briggs actually wins.
I mean why not? He looks good, he seems to be in shape and George Foreman did the same thing, not fighting for 10! years come back and over time become the world champion again.
Now I don't see Briggs becoming world champion, but he can still be a top 3 of America, I really do think he can beat Ortiz, or Wilder for example.

I'm not disagreeing that Briggs couldn't beat Ortiz. I'm saying I'd be more than amazed if Briggs would fight him. Wilder is another story because Deontay has a strap.

Oh sorry, English isn't my main language, I guess I misunderstood you.
I'm affraid you're right, I think Ortiz wouldn't dare to fight Briggs.

I think Wilder would beat Briggs. But I think Briggs could beat Ortiz. Ortiz is undefeated but looks easy to hit. I still don't think Briggs would take the risk in fighting Ortiz but I hope I'm wrong because I'd like to see it.
