I think perhaps that George Foreman came to this fight thinking that Tommy Morrison was going to
"Duke" it out with him(for the enjoyment of the boxing fans anyway).

Morrison vs. Vaulin is one of my favorite fights of all time. And the Vaulin post-fight interview one of my favorite of all time.
I saw the fight live on TV. Was so exciting to see the underdog Vaulin -- who had been brought in as cannon fodder -- totally out-boxing Morrison. And just when I was starting to feel sorry for Morrison, boom! The dramatic turn-around...

I was upset at time because Morrison fought like he did, but it was his only chance at win. I still can't believe a 208 lbs. Holyfield went toe to toe with Foreman. That was a very violent fight.

I think Big George wold have won the fight with Holyfield if he he hadnt changed his boxing style
with the cross-arm method for it(probably out of homage to Archie Moore).

Re: morrison beating foreman
From what I remember Foreman was already pissed off about Mills Lane being the referee that night. You see, the comebacking George Foreman was no angel inside the ring. Smarter, wiser, more patient yes--- but he would still perform illegal tactics to get his way. He would shove, low blow. Mills Lane wouldn't let Foreman get away with crap like that.
I think George also felt that the "title" match wasn't really a world championship. The WBO back then was this little nothing league. Sure Bowe held the title for about a minute. But so did Herbie Hide. It was a mixed bag of quality. So, in my view Foreman figured "Hey, this isn't for the big toys just yet, and so it won't be a hard night," and he bet wrong.
Tommy and his team knew what George was about. And despite Tommy's own punching power, they knew conditioning wasn't Tommy's best trait. So he trained harder for this fight than any other, and had it drilled into his head to jab, and keep moving. Which frustrated the hell out of George. I think between Mills Lane, and Morrison running and jabbing.... Foreman gave up alot of the time in that fight... I think he hoped that somehow he'd land one good punch and that would be it. But it never happened for him. He took no dive or quit. He just lost whatever focus, and hope he had. At 44, and almost 300 pounds.... let's get honest here... there was no way he was going to catch a moving target like Tommy was that night.
But had George Foreman had his way... and had the referee he wanted... poor Tommy probably would have gotten elbowed, shoved and nutted before the first five rounds.
