PBC With Another Gem
PBC With Another Gem
PBC's debut on FS1 gives us this gem on Tuesday night:
Austin Trout vs Joey Hernandez
Al Haymon is such a joke that he should do stand up comedy.
Can we please get Trout back in there with someone legit? How do you go from beating Cotto and giving Canelo a life and death fight to fighting guys like Dawson, Grajeda, Galarza and Hernandez? I can see one tuneup. Maybe 2. But 4? What is Haymon trying to do exactly ?

Lara took this dude's soul. He's not shot by any stretch but he can not beat the Charlos, Andrade, or Julian Williams. His chin is glass and he makes the most ridiculous expressions when he's knocked down. He's just a fringe Contender at this point.

Re: PBC With Another Gem
The next 5 PBC main events are:
Trout vs. Hernandez
Stevenson vs. Karpency
Qullin vs. Zerafa
Vasquez vs. Lopez
Truax vs. Guerrero
Plus Wilder/Duhaupas around the corner as well. This is pretty abominable stuff.

Haymon is the worst. Worse than Don King. Worse than the orgs. He doesn't even pretend to be reputable.

Re: PBC With Another Gem
Yeah I saw that upcoming matchup and was pretty amazed by how bad it was. PBC has delivered a few good fights; mostly via Haymon's "stars" facing top class guys on the downside he's willing to give Ls to, but that strategy is not sustainable.jujigatame wrote:The next 5 PBC main events are:

Re: PBC With Another Gem
I wanted to give Haymon the benefit of the doubt when he started up because it looked like he was moving towards a UFC type model where you have all the best fighters under one roof fighting each other. That really hasn't happened though. We've gotten a LOT of very dubious matchups. Just look at these odds on upcoming PBC fights:
Trout -1600
Spence -2150
Stevenson -2500
Charlo -1700
Quillin -1250
Wilder -2500

Wilder -2500

Re: PBC With Another Gem
A little harsh no? I mean God forbid you get outboxed by Lara? Anyone that beats Cotto and fights Canelo on even terms deserves benefit of doubt id say. Sure Dawson put him on floor but in no way does that indicate he's now shot considering his resume and success.hulkmaniac wrote:Lara took this dude's soul. Re: PBC With Another Gem
I find it funny that Trout has a "glass jaw" in spite of never being stopped. Canelo, Lara, and Dawson dropped him, but nobody has stopped the guy yet.
Re: PBC With Another Gem
I mean seriously. Cotto-Canelo is the biggest fight happening in boxing now and many people think Trout beat both of them. But he's shot? What is he, 29 yrs old ?

Re: PBC With Another Gem
I have met him numerous times and am pretty close to several guys in his circle. He's one of the few actual good guys in the sport. I am rooting for him, but I have to call it how it is. He is done at the top level. His mind isn't there anymore. He's not Chad Dawson or Victor Ortiz status, but he's second tier now.

He's trying to give you quality fights from a quality fighter who is rebuilding himself. I think instead of being critical we should be grateful we are seeing big named fighters for free, I swear some folks you could give them a golden egg and they'd still find a reason to fart on it because it isn't polished enough for them.
ABC Wide World of sports was much like what PBC is doing as far as the quality of fights we are seeing, we saw a lot of contenders, a few no hopers and a few champions/Elites get the job done on tv for free.
Just appreciate it for what it is for now, hopefully we will get to see Kovalev vs Stevenson type fights for free down the line.
Re: PBC With Another Gem
PBC has delivered a lot of good match-ups in the past several months. Santa Cruz vs Mares was especially amazing for a fight on free tv. However, it's fair to say that in the coming few months, the quality of PBC fights is about to slip significantly.
Re: PBC With Another Gem
So if they offer you to eat stale bread for free, you will ?KBB wrote:diddy wrote:PBC's debut on FS1 gives us this gem on Tuesday night:

Besides, there is always a free option to watch boxing.

Only if you eat it first, You mad because Haymon is black??ikorolev wrote:So if they offer you to eat stale bread for free, you will ? Besides, there is always a free option to watch boxing.
If you don't like what you are seeing then no one is making you watch.

Malignaggi literally sounds asleep tonight. Holy hell he sounds depressed and/or bored as hell.

Joey Hernandez body slams Trout to the ring in about the most malicious crap you'll ever see in a boxing match. What ghetto did they scrape this piece of sh*t out from?

Re: PBC With Another Gem
Honestly I feel like PBC has gotten more good will than it's deserved. It's a handful of good matchups awash in a sea of garbage. I thought this was going to be some sort of revolution in boxing but it's just more of the same. Just another big promoter on the block to feed us 95% overhyped mismatches.Lackeos wrote:PBC has delivered a lot of good match-ups in the past several months. Just watched highlights of the fight, that move wouldn't look out of place in WWE !diddy wrote:Joey Hernandez body slams Trout to the ring in about the most malicious crap you'll ever see in a boxing match. What ghetto did they scrape this piece of sh*t out from?
Re: PBC With Another Gem
Haymon sure does have some crap on tap until the end of the year with these events. But then again, it's boxing on a Tuesday. Is some boxing better than no boxing? I enjoyed having some fights to watch last night i must say. That first fight was fantastic while it lasted though so it could have been a lot better had that fight had a chance to complete.
I must say, i'm SO sick of Jack Reiss as a referee. He's been horrible and getting worse for years. I'm not even talking about the Vargars/Bradley debacle which was horrendous. He's constantly stopping action in the ring for no reason so he could get the spotlight. Last night, he called Lara's second cut a butt without ever seeing a butt. That was a punch that caused that cut as I did rewind it to pinpoint the punch. Thank god it wasn't the cut that caused the stoppage but that's just irresponsible for a ref to make a judgement without seeing what happened. He was dead wrong. He needs to go before he really ruins some young fighters future.

Pat Russell was the referee for Bradley Vargas, not Reiss.caldo2025 wrote:Haymon sure does have some crap on tap until the end of the year with these events. But then again, it's boxing on a Tuesday. I used to think this but now I'm not so sure. Look at the PBC September lineup. There are a lot of good fighters on those cards but they're matched up terribly. I'd be much happier to see half the cards, but with better matchups.caldo2025 wrote:But then again, it's boxing on a Tuesday. Is some boxing better than no boxing?

Re: PBC With Another Gem
There's plenty of free boxing on TV these days, and as usual, many of you are squawking because it's not major PPV quality or even a trumpeted HBO-like match up.
Just be grateful we're seeing so many current outstanding boxers on a regular basis, whether or not the bouts are fully competitive.
When you're paying $100 to see a quality fight and don't get it (see Mayweather-Pacquiao) then you can complain. But until then remember---these PBC fights don't cost you anything so beggars can't be choosers.

Re: PBC With Another Gem
Its absolutely pathetic how some people are happy to watch 90/10 match ups because they are free but then criticize boxers for ducking. Old man pino for example constantly ridicules Europeans for being "risk adverse" but is happy to watch Garcia-Paulie and Wilder vs Duhaupas and the rest of this shite lined up, you cant have it both ways.
I'd rather pay for quality then settle for this rubbish, I don't get any enjoyment out of watching mismatches.
