Browne splits with Fenech - repalced by Nigel Benn & Rodney Williams

Post by Redback Rasta »

Having read the recent Q & A article where Lucas Browne sounded quite disillusioned with things in general, and in particular "wasting the past year in Sydney" and "disagreeing with Jeff Fenech's game plan", it comes as no great shock to hear Browne has a new training arrangement.

Nigel Benn to train Lucas Browne

Britain's former two-time world champion Nigel Benn and experienced Aussie Rodney Williams have been selected as the men to guide Lucas "Big Daddy" Browne to world title glory.

Browne, who is the mandatory challenger to WBA "regular" champion Ruslan Chagaev, had been working with the Jeff Fenech, but has now switched to Benn and Williams.

Williams has trained some of Australia's best upcoming talents in recent years while Benn, who now lives in Sydney, was one of the world's most feared middleweight and super-middleweights in the late 1980s and early to mid-1990s.

Famed for his all-action style, the Londoner was a devastating puncher and won the WBO crown at middleweight by knocking out Doug DeWitt in 1990 before adding the WBC super-middleweight title to his collection by halting Mauro Galvano two years later.

His win over American Gerald McClellan in London in 1995 was one of the most brutal world title fights in living memory.

Benn is also close friend of Ricky Hatton and called the Hitman for his views before agreeing to train the heavy-hitting Aussie.

"Can Lucas become a champion? Absolutely!" the Dark Destroyer said. "He has the potential to go all the way.

"He is a big old boy, he can hit hard and has natural ability and talent. He has good movement and we would love to help him to do the things he hasn't done before so he can walk through his opponents. I want him to do things that heavyweights can't do.

"Lucas has a vision and I know Rodney and I can help him to achieve his goals. I believe Lucas Browne will become Australia's first heavyweight champion of the world."

Rodney Williams added: "Undoubtedly Lucas Browne can become the next heavyweight champ. I see the potential he has and I'm looking forward to working with him to use and abuse the athleticism of a man of his size.

"I relish the opportunity to help the man mountain make Australian boxing history."

Browne, who is from Sydney, is scheduled to move back to Perth to live later this year to be near his two children, who live in WA with their mother. However, he will train in Sydney with Benn and Williams.

I really hope Lucas can go on with it and win a version of the world title. But the few times I have seen him fight, I can't see where he will do that. Hope I'm wrong and wish him all the best.

I think so too. Browne and Fenech obviously weren't on the same page tactically.

Might be just the breath of fresh air Browne needs. Not much as gone that well for him recently.

Anthony Joshua now holds the Commonwealth title vacated by Lucas Browne after demolishing Gary Cornish inside 97 seconds.

Cornish became Joshua's knockout victim #14 and Dillian Whyte is scheduled next for him in December.

Avoid cheek my friend. Members in this joint dislike one line bait. Care to elaborate on your opinion?
Continue to do same & you'll have to find somewhere else to entertain yourself.

I'll be contacting the hierachy on here to try and have you removed as an editor, AntonS. You have a serious problem when it comes to abusing your power. It's disgusting.

Every post Francis75 puts up is negative. Every single one of them and there have been nearly 150. His mate tried the same game and got banned. This guy is headed the same way and only has himself to blame.

I have no doubt he's probably said some silly things. We all do. But don't you think threatening to ban someone because they have a different opinion to himself, is going a bit too far? So unprofessional.

I personally don't think Browne getting a new trainer will change anything. I don't rate him at all. Am I going to get banned for this comment?

It goes a lot deeper than that. Every single post he puts up is negative. EVERY single one. NOTHING positive ever. If you can't see it for yourself you can't have been reading his posts.

It is meant to be a forum where people discuss things. Not just bag every single thing, EVERY single time.

A lot of whining about what people post. Time for some people to put on their big boy pants and add Francis to their foe list if they don't like his opinion. :TU:

There is a forum that tolerates the non-stop rubbishing of Australian boxers. What makes this forum superior is we don't and let's hope it remains that way.

I like Lucas Browne, enjoy watching him fight and wish him well but if some people don't share my opinion that is their perogative. Different opinions is what makes forums interesting. :TU:
