Sons of gunz. Let's discuss them...

Post by Redback Rasta »

There are a few 2nd generation fighters going round at present. Who can you name and what can you tell us about them and their fathers?

I'll kick things off with one some might not be aware of.

The great Barry "Boy"' Michael's son Zac Swettenham debuted recently in a televised bout on one of Barry's shows. Without being too unkind he didn't look like world champ material. But he showed plenty of ticker.

I'm a big fan of Jake Carr son of former commonwealth Champ Rod Carr. Hunter Sam is son of former World title challenger Doug Sam.

Jake Carr is a beauty! I'm old and ugly enough to remember his dad "Rocket" Rod winning the Commonwealth and national titles and see no reason why young Jake can't achieve similar things. He already has a national title and still has a zero in the losses column next to his name.

There's Kali Meehan and his son Willis. Willis will actually be fighting on the Parker vs Kali Meehan undercard which will be Kali's final appearance. Willis has already fought on the same card as his dad when Kali beat Shane Cameron.

Anthony Mundine and his father Tony. What can I tell you about them? Tony is more liked than his son.

There's a very good reason for that. They conducted themselves very differently. Tony was a gentleman. Enough said.

Not sure if they are still fighting but Jason and Tim Kanofski, sons of Geoff Crazy Kanofski.

My guess is none whatsoever. I have certainly heard no mention of one.

Undefeated middleweight Dwight Ritchie is the son of Darcy Ritchie. Darcy fought pro for 23 years and was undefeated for the first 13 of them.

Kiwi Commonwealth title winner Monty Beetham's son Monty Jnr waited until his rugby career was over and he was nearly nearly 30 before turning to pro boxing, and has 7 wins from 8 fights.

Still haven't heard who Jake Carr is fighting and it is supposedly only 7 days out from his fight in the US.

Meanwhile Willis Meehan says he is planning on having 3 fights in the next 3 months.

“When I’m training hard, when I’m in the ring, it lessens time for me getting into mischief again — I don’t get have worries about getting into mischief no more but I know the more I stay busy, the fitter I’ll get, the easier the transition will be coming back to rugby league,” Meehan said.

Jake Carr ended up sparring at Wildcard on Oct 16. Not fighting as he thought he would be.

Jake says he is now "just awaiting his opportunity" for that US debut he had been talking about.

I've been curious about this one long enough I thought I better look them up.

Geoff last fought 10 years ago and Jason in May last year.

Timmy is on the way back as he has played football for a few years. He's back into training but will be a while b4 he fights. I think Jason could be finished but you never know.

Jake has just signed a contract in L.A. He thanks Justin Fortune for all the work he has put in behind the scenes. But the question is who has he signed with?
