RIP Davey Browne
I think we sometimes lose track of the courage it requires to step through the ropes and the potential danger it entails. This potentially tragic happening from last night is an unfortunate reminder >>>
A 28-year-old man is in a critical condition after he was knocked unconscious and suffered seizures during a boxing match in Sydney’s west last night.
He was knocked out in the final round of the charity event at the Ingleburn RSL around midnight, with witnesses saying he struggled to breathe and suffered seizures.
An on-site doctor treated him at the RSL before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital.

Aussie Davey Browne Jnr on life support following knockout loss
Davey Browne Jnr has been placed on a life support machine following a bout against Carlo Magali on Friday night in Australia.
The 28-year-old was knocked cold by Filipino Magali in the final round of their match-up for a fringe version of the IBF title and is now fighting for his life in Liverpool hospital.
Browne’s situation is described as critical and Australian National Boxing Federation President John McDougall has since given his views on the incident from a ringside position at the Ingleburn RSL.
"He dropped right in front of me, I could've reached out and touched him," McDougall told The Sydney Morning Herald. "The Filipino hit him with a crashing punch and he was out cold before he hit the floor.
"The doctor gave him oxygen and an ambulance was there in seconds. Now it's in the hands of God, unfortunately.”
This latest tragedy comes just six months on from the death of 23 year-old compatriot Braydon Smith who collapsed following a clash with another Filipino native John Vincent Moralde in Toowoomba.
Smith, known as ‘The Great White’, suffered a bleed on the brain following unanimous ten-round defeat in March and never regained consciousness. He was pronounced dead two days after the fight.

Davey Browne on life support after KO loss
By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing
130-pound fighter Davey Browne (22-2-1, 8 KOs) is fighting for his life after a twelfth round knockout loss to Filipino 130-pounder Carlo Magali (19-7-3, 9 KOs) on Friday night at the Ingleburn RSL Club at Ingleburn, NSW, Australia.
Browne controlled the contest in the early rounds but was cautioned by referee Charlie Lucas for holding Magali behind the neck in round five. In round six, Magali connected with a series of solid right hands that had the Australian on unsteady legs until the bell sounded. Browne recovered well in between rounds and won rounds seven, eight and nine. The referee cautioned Browne for using the shoulder in round nine. Round ten was contested on even term as both boxers swapped heavy blows. Magali dropped Browne in round eleven but the game Aussie boxed his way out of trouble until the bell. Magali was crowned the winner in round twelve after connecting with a powerful right hand to the head that dropped Browne in the neutral corner.
Browne was treated by ringside doctor Lawrence Noonan. Paramedics arrived and transported Davey to Liverpool Hospital near Ingleburn, where he has been placed on life support. Davey is married with two children. His brother Tommy is a 2005 WBA featherweight world title challenger. The Australian boxing fraternity is saying our prayers for Davey.

Dreadful news that is even worse when the tragedy of young Braydon Smith is still so fresh in our minds.
Re: Young Sydney boxer fighting for life after injury in charity match
Apparently Davey is off life support & breathing unassisted, which is great news but still early days. Fingers crossed he fully recovers in the not too distant future
Re: Young Sydney boxer fighting for life after injury in charity match
Great signs he is off life support and speaking freely.

Re: Young Sydney boxer fighting for life after injury in charity match
Davey Browne's family actually promoted the fight and his brother Tommy fought on the undercard.
An official confirmed Browne was earlier punched when he took his eyes off his opponent to draw the referee's attention to some loose tape on his gloves.
Brian Amatruda was negotiating for Davey to fight on Anthony Mundine's next show. But far more important now is him getting well.

Bradbury boxer Davey Browne Jr clings to life
FORMER world champion boxer Daniel Geale has led tributes for Bradbury boxer Davey Browne Jr who was seriously injured in a bout at Ingleburn RSL Club on Friday night.
Browne, 28, was knocked to the ground by Filipino Carlo Magali, also 28, in the 12th round of the WBC Eruasia Pacific super featherweight title bout.
The father-of-two was ahead on points when he took a punch to the head.
Browne briefly regained consciousness before being conveyed to Liverpool Hospital intensive care unit where he is in a critical condition with brain injuries.
It is believed he was taken off life support on Sunday night and is breathing unassisted.
Browne is staying at Liverpool Hospital.
Geale took to social media on Saturday to encourage people to support the Browne family through the tough days ahead via a Go Fund Me fundraising page.

“Thoughts and prayers for Davey and his family,” Geale said.
Former Browne Jr trainer Paul Toweel was devastated but hopeful.
“I’ve know Davey since he was 10 ... he is a fighter,” Toweel said. “He was doing what he loved doing.”
Toweel said he would keep praying for the young man he considered a son. “It’s not easy, but please God he pulls through,” he said.
Macquarie Fields police issued a statement confirming the boxing tournament was sanctioned.
They said they were liaising with family, the hospital and boxing authorities and added the Filipino national was not subject to any criminal investigation.

Must add that my thoughts are with Davey Browne and family aswell. Fingers are crossed
It seems that the medical support staff at the event did an amazing job. If it weren't for these boys, things could have been a lot worse.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject is there insurance in promotions to protect boxers in these rare circumstances?
