Dillian Whyte
Dillian Whyte
I have been watching a few of his fights and some interviews... He comes across very well and he has been bashing up his (admittedly very poor) opposition as expected of him. I actually like him on a personal level better than Joshua, and I found his comments around Vitali and Wladamir having sparred them both (he has respect for Vitali but considers Wlad a bully) interesting. The fact that he is training with Jonathon Banks intrigues me.
I've watched the Joshua-Whyte fight before they both turned pro and both look very raw... Can't learn much from that.
I'm interested in the opinions of some clued up Boxrec-ers as to how good they think Dillian is. He seems like a good character for the British heavyweight scene. Is he a live underdog or is Joshua going to walk over him? In interviews he seems very confident and I'd like him to do well. Thoughts?

Re: Dillian Whyte
He seems very confident but I just can't see past AJ
Re: Dillian Whyte
He has seemed confident in his IFL videos but the first time i actually seen him in the same room as Joshua was at the Joshua/Cornish press conference, i thought he came across is edgy, as if Joshua is under his skin. Joshua on the other hand was his usual self, cool calm and collected.
Re: Dillian Whyte
I agree he's quite likeable and he poses a genuine threat to Joshua but as someone said above I can't see past AJ. He seems unflappable and I think he'll just take his time and pick his moment with Whyte but maybe Whyte can ask a few questions and take him some rounds. Looking forward to it though and the build up should be fun. It'll be interesting to see if Whyte can rattle Joshua in the build up. If he did manage to then maybe it'll be a lot different than most people think?
Re: Dillian Whyte
Joshua is right under Whyte's skin and this will be his downfall. You could see him chewing on that IFLTV video of the press conference when AJ said something about being on his undercard, he didn't like it one bit
Whyte will come out all guns blazing and get knocked out in pretty quick fashion I think.
Re: Dillian Whyte
I agree the way to beat AJ is to outbox him Whyte will come to war and get caught. Should be entertaining though and win or lose Dillian has a solid future in the heavyweight division.Rexob wrote:Joshua is right under Whyte's skin and this will be his downfall. Re: Dillian Whyte
I think he comes over really well in interviews, straight talking and no bs, looking forward to him fighting AJ
Re: Dillian Whyte
I would love to see Whyte beat Joshua, I find him so much more likeable.
However Joshua looks the real deal and I would expect him to finish off Whyte within half a dozen rounds.

Re: Dillian Whyte
I think he is very good
as you can see him and aj really don't like each other
I honestly think this will be the best fight in the uk this year
surely they will both win early tonight and make this December 12th into a great event

Re: Dillian Whyte
I agree on both counts. I cant blame Whyte for his hatred of AJ after AJ called him a drug cheat even though AJ got done for drug dealing while with team GB (I thought he got in trouble before he started boxing), then when you consider the length of the ban Whyte got for his mistake the punishment certainly didn't fit the crime. Would love Whyte to win but expect AJ to come through and hopefully they both go on to win a world title.MrJasonM wrote:I would love to see Whyte beat Joshua, I find him so much more likeable.

Re: Dillian Whyte
Whyte is a decent domestic level fighter, he will lose early against Joshua
Re: Dillian Whyte
Joshua has a very well muscled and we'll defined physique, is Kerry Kayes giving him supplements?
Re: Dillian Whyte
Whyte by contrast looks about half a stone over weight to me.palooka wrote:Joshua has a very well muscled and we'll defined physique, is Kerry Kayes giving him supplements?
Re: Dillian Whyte
All of AJ's amateur losses occurred when opponents took the fight to him and pushed him back, and I notice that he's shown a tendency to stiffen up and stick his chin in the air when attacked. I think being aggressive on the front-foot may be a generally better approach than trying to beat him with him coming forward, though it will vary by opponent.rm1 wrote:I agree the way to beat AJ is to outbox him Whyte will come to war and get caught. I believe that his aura of destructiveness is leading opponents to fight intimidated, which consequently makes it more likely that he'll continue to look destructive. In my view it's a similar situation with GGG, as opponents often back off intimidated even though they have the most success when they've found the courage to stand their ground and attack, generally doing much better than when they were moving back, positioning themselves near the ropes (bad news against GGG and AJ), and overall fighting circumspectly.

Re: Dillian Whyte
I do think Whyte can go a step further than Chisora career-wise. Just wonder whether his heart will still be in it if he loses to Joshua.

Crusader- I agree that it may well be better to push Joshua back. I think backing off and being on the end of his punches much more dangerous than being at mid-close range. Have seen no signs he can fight inside few that he can counterpunch and none that his footwork could offset aggression either.
Re: Dillian Whyte
I dont.get.all the sky hype around aj being such a big personality and.so affable. He seems so.boring and predicatable.to me. Whyte is the opposite and is interesting listen too. I just feel hes too raw right now for Aj but he wil.be the first opponent.going.in.there truky.believig.he.can.win

He could do with losing about a stone. 16'11 would be much better for him.rm1 wrote:Whyte by contrast looks about half a stone over weight to me.palooka wrote:Joshua has a very well muscled and we'll defined physique, is Kerry Kayes giving him supplements?

Joshua is stiff. And much like fellow muscle bound British stiff big hitters Price and Bruno he is pretty shoddy backing up.
Whyte beat and floored AJ twice backing him up, that Russian guy who stopped Joshua also put it on him. Camarelle made AJ look very uncomfortable and felt compelled to lodge a complaint that delayed the awarding of the Olympic Gold and even 50 year old Skelton backed Joshua up before he folded just as he did with Price.
I am far from convinced with Joshua ATM based on evidence and opponents rather than sponsored hype. Hughie Fury, six years Joshua's junior already looks twice the boxer IMO.

Re: Dillian Whyte
Well the truth is out there now, we've all seen him and he didn't look great did he ?
Heavy puncher but clumsy and wide open, okay shoulder injury he says ...so benefit of the doubt I guess, but matchroom's so-called big heavyweight clash looks a big mismatch.
Funny how the gormless & desperate Nick halling was trying to build him up like he's an established heavyweight threat, when really he's just an unknown novice.
The Crowd had not a clue who he was, until they said from Brixton... and then half of them cheered thinking "ah right, he's from London"

Joseph Parker is widely considered along with AJ to be the next generation of HWs.
But for the 2nd time in his last 3 fights Whtye has taken out opponents Parker took into the second half of the fight in double quick time.
Whtye basically naturally hits hard. He is raw, but the reason he dropped Joshua twice and gets his opponents out of there much quicker than Parker, is he clearly hits a lot harder than both.
That makes him a VERY live underdog vs AJ ...

Re: Dillian Whyte
Yes heavy puncher I agree, Minto surprised as he was brave & tough as hell & really throwing back, until the the poor timing of him going down delayed left the clueless in the crowd thinking he'd taken a dive...
But yes I was willing him not to get caught and blow the fight, because it'll be a good build up & exciting while it lasts.

Re: Dillian Whyte
To be fair Whyte blatantly approached this fight like he was just going to steamroller Minto visibly didn't give a shit about boxing properly and what could come back at him, and he did flatten Minto convincingly and early. A few more seconds on the bell in the first round and could easily have been stopped there, Minto was hurt pretty bad.
Joshua will be a different level of performance, still wouldn't fancy him, but I can see it going to points.
