FANTASY FIGHT, CHAVEZ VS PRYOR. WHO WOULD HAD WON?

Post by marchegiano007 »

WHO WOULD HAD WON? LETS SAY THE 1987 JULIO THAT BEAT ROSARIO AGAINST THE 1982 PRYOR THAT BEAT ARGUELLO. THE RING MAGAZINE SOME YEARS AGO SAID THAT STYLES MAKES FIGHTS. AND THAT JULIO WOULD HAD DONE WHAT ARGUELLO FAILED TO DO THE MID ROUNDS BODY PUNCHES WOULD HAD STOPPED PRYOR LATE IN THE FIGHT AND CHAVEZ AT ALMOST THE SAME HEIGHT THAN PRYOR WOULD HAD PUNCHED PRYOR IN THE EYES CUTTING HIM AND SWELING THE EYES OF PRYOR. NOW WHO HAD THE BETTER CHIN, PROBLABLY PRYOR, BUT CHAVEZ HAD A VERY GOOD CHIN TOO, ROSARIO WAS A DEVASTATING PUNCHER AND JULIO DID NO EVEN BLINK JUST LIKE PRYOR. SO JULIO BY TKO IN THE 12 ROUND.

Uhh...you're shitting me right? No way Pryor had a better chin than Chavez. Pryor got knocked quite a bit in his career. He always got up, but that has more to do w/ heart than w/ chin. Chavez had one of the greatest chins in boxing history. A prime Chavez would dismantle Pryor and knock him out in the middle rounds.

Id go for Chavez on points or late rounds stoppage. The peak Chavez was an awesome fighting machine.

Chavez by KO. Prior was a punching machine with little defense, and Chavez would’ve broken down Prior. Prime Chavez was awesome and his defense and chin was better than Arguello. :TU:

I would bet the house on Chavez with no hesitation in this theoretical. However I would bet even more money that Pryor would not sign on the line when it came to making this happen. No way No how.

Chavez, alot easier than most would think. Pryor would give Chavez a whole lot of openings, and Chavez would have to cut off the ring to find him. Pryor would land his share of punches, but Chavez's punches would be more pin-point. Chavez's chin and defense were better, and his stamina was just as good as Pryors.

you have to remember one valid poin here.

Alexis Arguello was at the end of a highly distinguished career. What Pryor defeated was a shell of the former great. In his prime Arguello would have Ko'd Pryor.

As for JC Superstar. I don't think Aaron had enough to keep Chavez off him.

Julio Cesar Chavez by KO anytime after 3.

I got to go with Pryor here. He was an awesome and magnificent non-stop punching machine. He never stop throwing punches.

I used to think that Chavez, who was one of my favorite fighters would have taken him (Pryor), but now, I say "No way"

Why??? Pryor would use his boxing skills. He could box and he could also slug it out and I do not think that Chavez could handle the pace that the Hawk brings. Plus, Pryor, when hurt had resources and had excellent recuperative powers. Pryor had more speed. Meldrick Taylor confused Chavez with speed.

I see Chavez having some moments, but Pryor would not be a stationary target like Taylor. I do not think Pryor would go in a toe to toe exchange like Taylor did. Pryor was more mobile and threw punches from all angles. Chavez was a machine; specially as the rounds and the fight went by, he used to get stronger, but by the time the 15th round comes, Pryor would have a lead in the scorecards. Pryor by decision. Nobody could KO Chavez in his prime.

Even if Pryor whipped out his infamous "blue bottle," I don't see a way for "The Hawk" to win. He was a little faster than Chavez, maybe, but Chavez was better in every other department. Ring tactics, power, chin, stamina, it all went to JCC.

Regardless, if the two best versions of them matched up, I'd take Chavez over Pryor by a 14th round knockout.

Actually, it was Larry Holmes who once had a blue bottle. Against Arguello, the first time, Pryor's trainer, Panama Lewis, gave Pryor liquid from a black bottle.
Damn you and your correct facts!

Sorry, but Pryor was a harder puncher and just as skilled/fast as Taylor, who gave Chavez hell. Pryor would be constantly moving and never let Chavez get set, which is what he needed to do as he never had the quickest legs.

Pryor by clear decision.

I think what Jaclem is trying to say is that Chavez would whip the bejesus out of a chickenhawk........ Or Aaron Pryor either one.

I've seen a lot of Pryor's fights but almost all in retrospect. I wasn't following the sport that closley when the fights were actually made. I know Jaclem isn't his biggest fan and I've heard people say that Pryor was very picky about his opponents. what stories do you know about Pryor declining to fight certain opponents?

I'd say it's irrelevant in this conversation. The important thing to know is that there is no real doubt to the outcome of this particular theoretical.

It's overrated. It's not like he was a regular Khosai Galaxy or Joe Calzaghe.
I don't think galaxy ever avoided anyone.

Fair enough, but this is not a challenge to you. I am genuinely interested.

Pryor didn't avoid anyone, but was arguably avoided by Leanard.

As to the Johnson fight, Dujuan is a very under-rated guy and Pryor was never in real trouble in that fight . . if anything it shows his amazing chin and recuperative abilities . . .he got just NAILED flush, went down for less then a second and got back up and retaliated VERY quickly.

Chavez has an almost mythical status among some fans but the fact remains he had REAL problems with good movers who didn't stand there in the pocket with him. He usually overcame this with superior stamina/constant pressure but Pryor's stamina was equal to Chavez, and Pryor could bang (certainly harder then Taylor) and so Chavez wouldn't be able to just come on with the inside fighting and body shots in the middle rounds like he usually did.

Both guys were fantastic, but the key is workrate and speed and Aaron had the advantage in both. As for chins, I say equal and the fact that Julio has not got a Hearns like shot, Pryor will survive his best single shot. Pryor would be just too busy, like Taylor except that he was even stronger and hit quite a bit harder. This spells trouble for Julio

If Taylor could give Julio so much trouble then I see aaron beating him... Pryorr had much better power at 140 than Taylor and would have the edge in spped and skill over Chavez... Pryorr on points after a great fight... :box: :box: :box:

Taylor and Pryor were nothing alike. Taylor's hands were MUCH faster the Pryor and that was the key to his troubling Chavez, not the power, just the sheer volume of punches coming his way. The only advantage I see Pryor having over Taylor is power. Stamina was about the same, both moved well around the ring, and chin I would actually give a slight edge to Taylor.
Chavez would have a far easier time landing on Pryor than he did Taylor. Chavez body attack would gradually sap Pryors strenght throughout the fight.
Pryor's chin was not on par with Chavez. Except for a dip in the knees from a colossal Roger Mayweather right hand, Chavez never appeared even fazed by any punch in his prime.
I believe both Cahavez and Taylor would have defeated Pryor by UD, whether 12 or 15. Pryor face would look like a monster after his battle with Chavez.

No way Theone. I rate Chavez very high, but guys with speed, a chin and stamina as well as a very high output will give him serious trouble. Plus JC was not the hardest guy to hit now was he. And he was a notoriously slow starter. Where does he have the edge. As for the chins, Chavez will not KO Pryor, so I see no advantage for Julio. I see Aaorn throwing 3-1 and landing 3-1 for the whole fight
