Kell Brook top 10 p4p Ring Magazine

Post by Andrew »

Just noticed this

I like Kell but this is a joke beat someone like Thurman, Bradley or Danny Garcia then fair enough. The last two of those aren't in the list and should certainly be in there instead.

Agreed, Brook needs to step up now. Chaves is nothing but a yard stick for Matchroom to try and gauge Brooks level. If he sucks but gets the W expect that title to get wrapped up in cotton wool for another few defences.

Brook talks the talk, and i believe he will walk the walk win lose or draw, but he cannot continue on the patch of least resistance any longer, enoughs enough!

Yes, Garcia's collective wins over Khan/Judah/Matthysse/Peterson/Mallignaggi are better than Brook beating only Porter in a fairly close fight.

Agree. I do think however that Brook beats Garcia reasonably comfortably. The size difference helps of course. Brook just needs to prove how good he is though, fed up of talking about it.

Yep, I also think Brook beats Garcia.

Everybody has their own interpretation of what P4P means. For me it should be based on a proven body of work. Brook is in the Ring rankings at that level because there is an assumption he would beat all these other guys, even though all he has on his record is Porter. He seems to have inherited the credit for Porters wins over Paulie, Alexander and Broner. Broner was in there a couple of years ago for a similar reason - potential and the manner of his victories against non elite opponents at a weight where he had a significant size advantage. On potential and manner of victories alone then surely AJ can't be too far off entering the Ring top 10...

Agree with most of what's been written. We need to see Brook stepped up considerably after Chavez. I think the Bradley fight would be a cracker and one I think Kell would win. Thurman or Garcia would do nicely too! Maybe if Khan stops living in Amirland and takes off his Amir tinted glasses then we'll get an all British fight?

I'm just pleased for Kell and that the Ring has a Brit in their top 10.

What nonsense, I can think of almost 10 boxers in his division that I would have above him. Although I don't doubt that he has a great chance of being a top 10 p4p fighter, I have to see him beat someone else in and around that region. At the moment for me it is like saying that Wilder is a top p4p fighter. That may be a touch harsh, but it is true.

You can make the case for a few.

Saul Alvarez?

Has only lost one fight - to the P4P No1 - but doesn't even make the top 10 despite 45 other wins, many at a high(ish) level and usually exuding dominance. One loss aside, does Golovkin's record look that much better? Has he fought higher calibre opposition? But his career to date is good enough to see him place P4P No 4..... *shrug*

These kind of lists can be argued all day long.

Yep, you can argue Canelo is more proven with his wins than Brook, but also that Canelo is more exposed for his limitations with his loss to Floyd, while nobody has exposed Kell yet (or GGG/Kovalev). Again, my own preference is for ranking on what has been proved, in which case Canelo deserves to be higher.

I would say that Kell beats most, if not all the top 10. His win (away from home )against Porter looks better and better.

Please tell me you mean the top 10 at welterweight and not P4P.

Whilst I feel Danny Garcia or Tim Bradley should be in the list ahead of him, I do feel Kell can beat both of them. However he has to actually get in the ring with them and win.

I didn't read the title -I meant the top 10 in his division, not the top 10 pound for pound, although there is time for all that. I would take Kell to beat Garcia, Thurman, Bradley. Hopefully he will get the chance.

Danny G should already have a L on his record, I just don't get the love for him I don't think he should be top 10 p4p at all, if he fought the more defensive Khan now I'd pick Khan (the WBC maybe ordering this fight soon anyway).

I think if we all made a top 10 list now that none of these 3 would be on there, this time next year i'm hopeful Kell will have the names on his record to prove it though.

Am I the only one that things you should at least be top of a division to be in the top 10 PPV.

He's a good win away from the top 10. Beat Thurman, Garcia or Bradley and then you could argue him in.

So when Manny was no.2 to Floyd (or vice versa) in the division you think only one of them should have been in the top 10 P4P rankings when most others considered them 1 & 2?

No in a strong division like that if you've beat good names then you could be deserving of a top 10 ranking like Pacman and Bradley.

But clear division leaders like Yamanake, Inoue and Uchiyama should be above Brook.

Yeah Danny Garcia is an accident waiting to happen.

Agree Garcia has looked pretty poor recently, but I'd still pick him to beat Khan 9 times out of 10. Couldn't see Khan avoiding a big shot for 12 rounds; the fight would basically be over as soon as Garcia landed anything decent, same as it was the first time.

Garcia was being schooled by Khan before that big punch. That being said, I thought he was impressive against Matthysee. His recent opposition, as well as fighting a fellow World Champ in the same weight division, instead of trying to unify the belts, really has turned me off him. He should be above Brook on this list though.
