Why PPV shows are saving me money

I am a massive fan of PPV shows in the UK and particularly how Eddie is putting anything half way interesting down this route as it is serving to save me money every month.

The normal Saturday Big Fight cards are easily missable with 95% utter shite presented as worthy of our money when clearly they aren't. So I cancelled Sky Sports last year and have not regretted it. Occasionally he will put on a really interesting card but that will find its way onto PPV which costs £14.95. So three or four times per year I spend that for a total of £44.85 rather than £24.99 per month or nearly £300 per year.

On the very rare occasion there is a normal Saturday card worth watching, which has happened once this year, I get a NOW TV 24 hour pass for £6.99 if not just watch anything interesting the next day via download for free

PPV is great, if you do not like football and so do not need Sky Sports, as you can just buy one off events without having to subscribe for the whole month.

I think my total boxing cost in 2015 so far has been £24, in 2014 in the same period it had been £125. In fairness, I would rather they put on enough quality to justify a subscription, I would pay the couple hundred happily to watch week in week out top drawer action.

But, like you, I do occasionally order PPVs through the Virgin Live Events channel.

Quite often busk off of somebody else's Sky Sports though.

And, of course, the old Channel 5 and Spike TV on my freeview telly.

Good point in a way, Now TV is the way forward. Last Saturday I got a day pass at half five so I got plenty of football, boxing, cricket and more. Probably won't bother again for a month or so. Its a good model for sky and me. I've got rid of sky completely and I just chromecast it through the now tv app.

Not sure if I can do the PPV's in the same way actually, not tried that yet?

But I think you miss an important point, moving good fights to PPV is no excuse for the tosh that gets rolled out on regular Saturday night shows. Last Saturday was poor, Ryan v Hibbert was the exception. You would think there is a shortage of 50/50 fights that sky could show for English, British, Commonwealth titles. Who is going to grow up saying I remember the great nights of boxing on sky where Tony Bellew blew out some overweight South American who 'came to fight'.

The value for money that sky subscribers get is poor. If BT sport added a bit of boxing i'd say it wipes the floor with anything sky has had as a sports product in the last 5 years!

I am the same. Virgin is extortionate for the sports package. I pay for BNation but I use my brothers SkyGo for any boxing and jump round a mates occasionally for the football. I usually buy all the PPVs. Was thinking about trying that nowtv and just sticking it in the bedroom but I've heard a few people saying good things about these fire sticks? Not too sure how they work though.

I've got Virgin and allegedly - I got rid of Sky years ago, and never looked back. I'm not prepared to pay the ridiculous amount of money for Sky Sports, given that I don't watch football.

I miss plenty of fights served up on Sky, but don't feel I'm missing much, and occasionally get a PPV that's available through Virgin if I figure it's going to be worth it - but frankly, they rarely are.

I get Eurosport on my virgin subscription. I just asked my Mrs and she said 'the middle one' whatever that feckin means I'll try n find a bill and see what it is I actually get.

Apparently I am on the Virgin Large package. I actually thought I was medium, until recently.

I think I'd rather be with somebody different, but can't really find a company who isn't Sky or Virgin who gives me the channels I want.

I know people cling to this but we all know it was a co-headline of 3 fights and actually that fight was always likely to be the least competitive. I'm not for a second saying it was a really good PPV but it was miles from a terrible PPV too. I don't know what the ratings ended up being but I get the impression from some interviews that they weren't as good as expected so we'll wait and see what the next PPV will look like. I also get the impression we're reaching a point in Joshua's popularity (by all accounts huge viewing figures for the last fight) that he will be PPV in the next 12 months.

i just switched to virgin, didn't bother adding sky sports or BT (it would come to 100 quid a month!!!), just got b0xnati0n and go and watch live footy games at the stadium instead, works out much cheaper. sky just seems like a rip-off, hardly any boxing i would want to watch. joshua v cornish lol and next whyte lol someone at work was telling me how great these fights were so there are mug punters willing to be conned.

If your Internet's good, you can get loads of stuff with Kodi/TVMC. A lot of people are buying Amazon Fire TV Sticks and loading Kodi onto them.

You can subscribe to the Eurosport player for their channels - on their website for £6.99 per month with no restrictions, or £4.99 per month if 12 months is signed up. I haven't used this, so can't comment on it, but in theory it will allow you to subscribe only to their channels over the internet without using Sky, Virgin, or BT.
