Julian Williams vs Luciano Cuello Tues FS-1

Post by diddy »

Williams finally steps up. Cuello is a pretty good fighter but I expect Williams to take care of business here in his backyard (my backyard). Thinking about going to this fight.

Pretty good fight for FS1, most of the boxing cards they've televised have been poor. J-Rock should take care of business but Cuello fought Willie Nelson and JCC Jr. to close decisions so I expect this to be competitive as well.

Chucky Flores is not a tall fighter but he is strongly built and generates power with his legs and weight transfers on his hooks. He is a hard worker, always bouncing, can move rapidly with short steps and throws those hard to see comin hooks that can have a devastating effect

Cusolito his opponent has a totally different style more based on efficient straight punchign behind a jab... a more conservative technical style but also very efficient
Image

Cusolito is like a wise pest who won"t back down and will constantly apply pressure, grind to the head and body and eventually break you down, all in a VERY entertaining style as shown in this 2014 All action fight vs Silva.

This is an excellent matchup for the connaisseurs! The hard working awkward tank looking to land the big hook vs the methodical grinder who will try to keep Flores at arms lenght.I'm really curious to see if not having those shaved Corti gloves for Cusolito will have a big impact on his cumulative pop

J Rock looks like a determine fighter in there and always gets better. He has a pretty effective arsenal of punches too that he mixes wisely
Image

While i think he is often open for counters and can be timed easily when he overcommits with hooks, that straight right is a surprising and very effective shot
Image

He already has some solid wins vs Michael Medina, Hernandez, Alcine... I think it's safe to say we have a solid smart prospect
Image

Cuello is a good veteran with a good chin. He likes to work from distance and grind with body and head shots... Like many fighters with good chins, they neglect their D or their "chin stance"... In Cuello's case the chin is pretty exposed when he doesn't shell. He is pretty easy to time too. N-American boxing fans might remember Cuello vs Nelson...
Image

J Rock a little wise for Cuello imo... Quicker too. J Rock just has to get in the pocket and grind him. But Cuello can take a beating and remain composed so J Rock has to make sure he keeps moving and stays away from the body shots and that lenghty uppercut from Cuello. I expect Cuello to look brave (and make a chin & heart display)but J Rock to look good landing lots of flush shots... possibly leading to a TKO or wide UD

After Williams schools Cuello rumor has it he and Trout will be fighting. Who ya got in that one? Good fight. At this point and time I would probably lean toward Williams unless Trout can channel his previous Cotto-Canelo form.

Canelo has been the only guy to stop this man previously. And that took 6 rounds. Williams looked like he could've gotten him out of there in 6 seconds if he wanted to.

And like he said in the pre fight, he can brawl, he can be technical... He has multiple "ring personalities" and is smart enough to choose the most efficient one in his gameplan. He looks pretty solid like i said in my pre fight breakdown. So far the only problem i see in him is he can overcommit and be timeable but it will take a pretty good fighter to do that.

Trout has that ring smart style backed by movement and more importantly a very good jab. it will be interesting to see how JRock's jab would be efficient and how well he can go hunting for an evasive prey

If they fought next, and I don't think they will, I would pick Williams. He's a busier fighter than this version of Trout, who while still good, isn't quite the same guy as before.

I see Williams calling out Charlo for his Belt but that fight won't happen. Williams will need to be his mandatory to get that fight. He may need to beat a guy like Trout first to get there but I don't see Trout taking the fight.

Definitely should be Trout or Ishe Smith next for Williams. If he can deal with a slick boxer like that he is ready for the Charlos and Martirosyans and Laras of the world. Also hopefully Andrade will come back soon and give the division an extra boost in depth.
