Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
Apparently Paul Gallen is still eyeing off a fight with Sonny Bill Williams and Channel 9 are fully encouraging it in the knowledge it would rate its butt off on TV should it happen.
Meanwhile Gallen will have his 4th professional fight on the Super 8 card in Auckland, on November 3rd.
Gallen's opponent hasn't been announced yet. But it will likely be someone with rugby league connections.

Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
Old Gal might have to start swinging by Doughnut King a little more often if he wants to get on Sonny Bill's radar

Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
Last fight there weights were Gallen 229 and a half pounds and SBW' 234 and a half pounds.
5 pounds difference at heavyweight is nothing.
But Gal seriously needs to take some boxing lessons because his only visible asset seems to be his brick hard head. Unless he improves significantly I think Sonny Bill will toy with him.

Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
Gallen should call out Botha, and let the White Buffalo get revenge for his robbery against SBW.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-spor ... tournament?
New Zealand Warriors second-rower Bodene Thompson is backing himself to beat New South Wales State of Origin skipper Paul Gallen when they fight at the Super 8 boxing tournament in Auckland on November 3.
Thompson is set to be officially confirmed as Gallen's fourth professional opponent at an announcement at the City Boxing gym in Auckland on Thursday morning.
Despite having just the lone charity bout in 2011 and little other experience in the sport, the 27-year-old believes he has what it takes to overcome a more experienced boxer in Cronulla Sharks captain Gallen.
Thompson won his only bout against a Brisbane fighter and did box as part of his training for league earlier in his career, but Gallen has a 3-0 record as a professional and will go into the bout as favourite.
"I wouldn't jump in the ring if I didn't think I could win," Thompson told the NZ Herald. "It was just awesome to get the opportunity and I jumped at it and said 'yeah, why not'. I love it."

So a thread about actual boxers gets locked yet a sideshow boxing show thread is allowed.
Good luck to both of these footy heads who want to play boxing and make a fortune off the casuals. More power too them.

The obsessive, irrational hate directed at "actual boxers" gets a bit tiresome after a while. That's probably why a stop was put to it.DA GOOSE wrote:So a thread about actual boxers gets locked yet a sideshow boxing show thread is allowed.Good luck to both of these footy heads who want to play boxing and make a fortune off the casuals. Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
I don't think Gallen has a chance of beating SBW, now or ever.
Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
This is the sad truth when to get main stream interest in boxing promoters have to resort to this... SBW would be the most popular HW in New Zealand in the general public even against Parker.DA GOOSE wrote:So a thread about actual boxers gets locked yet a sideshow boxing show thread is allowed.Good luck to both of these footy heads who want to play boxing and make a fortune off the casuals. a sideshow boxing show thread is allowed?
this one hasn't been trolled yet, that's why.
u only have yourself to blame, so stop crying.
now back to the topic.
I think sbw is just a little too talented for gallen. sonny can box ok for a mere novice, and I can see him just tagging gallen too often.
i'd watch it for sure. if u don't like it then don't watch it. simples.

SBW is a boxer and Gallen is a slugger, plus SBW is a few years ahead of him..buster007 wrote:a sideshow boxing show thread is allowed?

You are right about if you don't like don't watch but don't you think it is a bit sad this fight would rate far higher than Parker v Meehan?
Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
these fights help keep boxing in the spotlight.
it is what it is. complaining about them is not going to make them go away.

Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
So stating facts with links and giving an opinion is ''irrational hate'' now. Enjoy discussing Paul Gallen vs SBW hey I wonder if SBW starts looking like getting KO'd wether the fight get's shortened again.bogan whisperer wrote:The obsessive, irrational hate directed at "actual boxers" gets a bit tiresome after a while. Promoters know what sells. That's their job. If anyone is to blame it is the people prepared to pay to watch two rugby guys demonstrate how difficult boxing really is.Mr Icaman wrote:This is the sad truth when to get main stream interest in boxing promoters have to resort to this... Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
Stephen Kearney sounds pissed with Bodene, saying it's likely he could be called up for the Kiwis tour to England and should remember he's a "league player first"
Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
Yes but you wouldn't think it would get much interest on a boxing forum where most are hardcore boxing fans. I mean as an undercard or a semi main event of a serious fight card I have no problem with but horses for courses I guess.Mr Icaman wrote:This is the sad truth when to get main stream interest in boxing promoters have to resort to this... Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
I don't think that SBW will be entering the ring again until after the Rio Olympic Games as he was named in New Zealand's initial rugby sevens squad in August to begin preparations for next year's Rio Olympics.
Why ruin the chance of a lifetime to collect an Olympic Gold Medal to add to his CV, by getting injured in the ring beforehand!
Gallen will grab the opportunity for another annual boxing match for pocket money. As he has only a further 12 months to go on his NRL career at Cronulla, he is silly to continue in boxing being very one-dimensional, and will be found out against sterner opposition.

Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
Not sure if Gallen hasn't been taught much or whether when it hits the fan in the ring he just throws it all out the window and goes into brawl mode? Either way he is very limited. By contrast SBW boxes reasonably well.Beltane wrote:I don't think that SBW will be entering the ring again until after the Rio Olympic Games as he was named in New Zealand's initial rugby sevens squad in August to begin preparations for next year's Rio Olympics.

Re: Paul Gallen eyeing off SBW fight
SBW beats Gallen easily. Boxes to a easy points win over 6-8 rounds if its set up at a 10-12 rounder for some kind of title then SBW would likely stop him
