Matchroom's new signing

Post by MrJasonM »

Hearn has mentioned a few times he is announcing a new signing this week.

Who do we think it is?

I would like it to be Eubank Jr but I can see Sr proving to be a stumbling block.

He said about them being chief support to Brook, so was expecting someone already experienced.

Eubank Jr has been tweeting about an announcement this week. My money's on him.
Haye isn't a bad shout. Would make sense on the same night as Klit/Fury...

Would Haye be happy playing second fiddle to a very poor world title fight in the arena and third fiddle for the people watching at home though?

Eubank Jr much more likely in that case, if he does sign with Matchroom I'd expect it to end in tears and a law court somewhere down the line

What an idiot. Do people still not realise that things like that on facebook will end up with you getting a visit from the boys in blue?

Putting two and two together it's going to be Eubank. However Eddie likes to be in control and he won't be with Eubank SR would be much worse than with McGuigan and Frampton.

If it is Jr it needs to be a proper fight he goes into he has enough knock overs on his records as it is.

Agree on the first paragraph

As for a proper fight no chance don't forget whenever Matchroom get a new fighter they act like hes never fought before or because hes not been on Sky boxing fans don't know who he is, will have at least 2 soft opponents with his new 'team'.

Spot on we will hear rubbish saying he hasn't fought since Feb ( loads of fighters have 6 months time out and come back against reasonable opponents even in the matchroom stable). I reckon Eastern European knockover on Oct 24th who is announced during fight week another knockover in November and then a fight which should have been his comeback fight on December 12th which will be on PPV

I tend to disagree with the above, if he is being labelled as chief support then I expect a good competitive fight for whoever the new signing is.

If it is Eubank Jnr, then I expect his WBA interim title to be involved somewhere. With the view to then go after Daniel Jacobs, as was initially planned for Macklin.

Monroe Jnr maybe?

Announcement due today?

I'm guessing -
Eubank Jr Vs. O'sullivan on Brook/Chaves in October.
Then -
Eubank Jr Vs. Heiland on Joshua/Whyte in December.

Just because its chief support doesn't mean it won't be an awful one sided affair with Matchroom the big name of Eubank Jr alone would be enough for chief support slot. Wasn't the last Martin Murray fight chief support on the Leeds bill? Especially when in reality Brook v Chaves is chief support itself.

Spike o'sullivan on his way to London to watch Buglioni.
Maybe a little press conference Vs Eubank Jr whilst he's here?

I agree that could be the case on a standard Saturday night sky card a la Murray on the Leeds bill, although that was a 12 round WBA ranking fight against an opponent who was 31-6 and had gone 7 with Lemieux.

But if you look at the last few PPV's the undercard has always had top chief support fights. The most recent Brook-Gavin card being a prime example with Selby and Mitchell being in 50-50 world title fights.

I am not saying it will be a world rated opponent who we all rate as top 25-30 in the division because it is a shared PPV and the budget will therefore be lower. But, I do think it will be a decent scrap, and not an 8 round journeyman scrap.

.....it also has to usurp a European title fight as chief support, I know chief support isn't merited in this way but the point still stands.
