Who is Heavyweight champ of world?

Post by MP »

I keep seeing posts about Wilder being the heavyweight champ of the world and that free tv is showing the first heavyweight championship in 10-20 years. However, I was wondering if anyone actually views Deontay Wilder as the heavyweight champion?

Personally, I view him as one of the top contenders, and don't know anyone who actually thinks that he's the champ.

As we all know they are deceitfully billing Wilder as "the heavyweight champion of the world", and this upcoming (probably fixed) junk fight as the fight for the world heavyweight championship.

He's a contender with a belt. Nobody except him views him as the Heavyweight Champion of the World. Even the people marketing him as the Champion know he's not.

Wladimir Klitschko is clearly the heavyweight champion of the world. Wilder is a belt holder.

Wladimir Klitschko.

I will say though I really like the advertising and marketing that PBC has been doing.

Too often boxing commentators (and fans...just look at the current scene) are so incredibly negative about EVERYTHING! I am not sure I have ever watched a Wladimir Klitschko fight that didn't start with one of the puppets announcing saying something like "Now Klitschko is no Joe Louis or Larry Holmes"...that's great, nothing like selling a bout by saying the best in the world isn't as good as a guy who hasn't fought in 60+ years. Boxing is literally the only sport I watch where the announcers CONSTANTLY rag on it. Teddy Atlas shtick whenever an undefeated fighter fights ("Sure he's undefeated, but he's only ever fought in *insert state or country here* so he'll probably fall short at the world level") is very negative too. The UFC will hype the crap out of a bum fight and get fans on the edge of their seats over two scrubs. Boxing tends to take dumps on their participants whenever a chance arises.

At least with the PBC stuff they actually seem to want to sell their product. They don't take the "This is crap but please buy anyway" mentality other boxing events do. Now they need to bring the quality of their fights up and leave the mismatches alone.

This is a question?

No, Deontay Wilder did not become champion of the world by beating Bermaine Stiverne. Didn't think I'd have to actually type those words, yet here we are.

He is "A" heavyweight champion of the world, not "THE" heavyweight champion of the world.

There are many ABC (and he does have one of the big 4 belts )but only one lineal and that is Wlad..

Insert the word PHONY after your "A" and you'll have it right.

Unfortunately nothing new here. When Larry Holmes was the real champion, they had a bogus WBA title that guys like Coetzee, Greg Page, Witherspoon, Mike Weaver, and John Tate passed around.

I am an American. I am a Deontay Wilder fan. There is one Heavyweight Champion and his name is Wladimir Klitschko.

only promoters and tv stations make this claim.

there are some fairly dopey fans who might be more inclined to watch a fight if it has an alphabet title attached

its just the sad state the sport is in nowadays.

anyone who thinks the advent of pay per view tv and the proliferation of titles and weights was a good thing....is wrong

If you can be "A" champion of the world, then there is no champion of the world.

There's either one, or there's none.

Yeah. Correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I checked there is only one world.
