Enzo Maccarinelli vs Roy Jones Jnr in Russia - Dec 12th
New Russian citizen Roy Jones Jr, has confirmed he will fight Welsh former cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli on November 28th in the former Soviet state, as he continues his quest for an elusive Cruiserweight world title.
Maccarinelli, now 35, is penciled in to box on October 10th in Newport, Wales in a scheduled 8 round contest on a Warrior Promotions card against a TBA opponent, although Jones is under the impression that the Welshman will be boxing for a title – a title he told TMZ.com that will be on the line when the two eventually square off in November.

Didn't see that coming. Could be fun. First semi meaningful fight for Jones in a few years. Enzo has the dig to cause an 'upset'. Hopefully it's on telly.

Does anyone really think Enzo won't win this? Roy does look shot to me and most others.
At least we now know what Roy's Russian citizenship was all about. He's aiming to become Russia's new boxing pin-up boy.

Good fight, Enzo will demolish Roy at this stage of their careers imo.

One would think so.Boxerbeetle wrote:Good fight, Enzo will demolish Roy at this stage of their careers imo.
For a stay-at-home fighter for so many years Roy is sure getting out and about recently.

wow didn't see that one coming
prime Roy might have put enzo into a coma but this version would probably go if Enzo landed cleanly.

Enzo brutalizes him now, surely?
Re: Enzo Maccarinelli vs Roy Jones Jnr in Russia - Nov 28
What weight will this be at. Roy wants to fight at Cruiserweight.... Enzo wants to fight at Light Heavy.
Re: Enzo Maccarinelli vs Roy Jones Jnr in Russia - Nov 28
I imagine that decision will be made by the cash rich promoter in Roy's favour - and Enzo will be told to like it or lump it.stujones wrote:What weight will this be at. Roy wants to fight at Cruiserweight.... Enzo wants to fight at Light Heavy.

Enzo's normally in good shape. I think Gary Lockett looks after him. Roy will need to be on his game. Here's a question - how many times have these two been put to sleep between them?
It's my contention that Enzo has been KO'd completely unnecessarily on several occasions. Look at his record. Nearly every single one of his victories he went looking for the man and took him out inside one, two, or three rounds. The reason all his KO's (where he's lost) are so bloody shocking is because normally the OTHER bloke was on the ropes with Enzo going hell for leather at him and just got careless. If he'd been a bit more measured in his style, I think he wins a few of those fights.
I suspect he discovered very early that he was a good athlete who can get a man out of their quick. He even admitted in that excellent documentary series on b o x nation that when Lockett tried to turn him into a boxer he told him, "Look, I'm just going to meet him in the middle and have a fight!"
Re: Enzo Maccarinelli vs Roy Jones Jnr in Russia - Nov 28
Enzo should diss Roy, by missing the flight to Moscow.
Re: Enzo Maccarinelli vs Roy Jones Jnr in Russia - Nov 28
Enzo has been knocked out spectacularly on a few occasions. If I remember right the fights against Afolabi and Frenkel were particularly bad? He was winning in both I'm sure? I can't remember the lebedev KO off the top of my head.magwitch wrote:handsofstone wrote:I like this fight if im honest![]()

The Frenkel ko was terrible; I was genuinely worried Enzo had been killed. The ref was a disgrace for letting that fight continue after the first knockdown, he didn't even do any of the standard checks to see if Enzo was OK to continue.Stuarty30 wrote:Enzo has been knocked out spectacularly on a few occasions. I was at the Afolabi fight. Enzo used him as a punchbag for about 6 rounds - although it was a big punch-bag and one that didn't show much sign of damage. I don't know if he was coming back from injury or something but in about round 7 or 8 he just seemed to gas alarmingly suddenly. If he hadn't been going after him non-stop he wouldn't have gassed. Ola Afolabi was not, I don't think, at the big end of the heavyweight scale - but he was a heavyweight - he was bigger than Enzo.Stuarty30 wrote:Enzo has been knocked out spectacularly on a few occasions. It has to be said that Ola was a lazy so-and-so in that fight - he did virtually nothing. He was leaning back on the rope half out of the ring - and then if he didn't turn his head right at the crowd where I was sitting and do a great big grin, whilst Enzo was working away. People actually started laughing with him.
A minute or so later they were separated and in the next time they came together Enzo got crumpled. You knew straight away that the fight was over. I think everybody was shocked - because as I say, Ola hadn't really done much of anything all night - and not many people knew who he was either. He was a popular man on the way to the dressing room, happy to pose for pictures with his new fans. Which is to say nothing about Enzo, who is popular with fans from all parts of the UK.

Can you imagine having a mate - or perhaps worse, a relative involved in a scenario like that? Or for the lads on here who do box, it could have been them. I believe he was from Finland that ref - an utter f*cking waste of oxygen. I don't even think he got banned. Typical boxing story
That was the night that Kell Brook fought someone - Jennings, I think - crap fight and Kell won on a cut, I believe. That fight was actually competitive in many imaginations going into it, so that was a shame. It MAY have been the night Groves kayoed Paul Smith - or I might have just watched them in the same pub.
My point is however - Smith-Groves aside, if it was that night - all the other fights on TV were pretty dull affairs and Enzo's performance was basically the pick of the bunch. He went after Frenkl from the off throwing virtually non-stop punches and looked highly effective and a real nightmare to fight.................of course, that was his downfall. Nothing comes back at you and you start to think you can do whatever you want. Enzo was the fighter of the night - right up until he got KTFO'd - with no help whatsoever from the inept c*nt whose job it was to look after him.

The Enzo-Frenkel fight was on the Magnificent 7 card, wasn't it? Brook-Jennings was definitely on the same bill (I remember telling my mates it was going to be fight of the night, which I got ridiculed over for ages after the eventmagwitch wrote:Boxerbeetle wrote: The Frenkel ko was terrible; I was genuinely worried Enzo had been killed. Smith-Groves was much more recent though.

Enzo should take his time before he agrees to anything. If, and it's a big if, Ovill does the job in Argentina, a third fight between them makes sense for both and is easy to make.ILikeBeer wrote:Enzo should diss Roy, by missing the flight to Moscow.

But yeah, the rest of the show was poor & I can't remember many of the other fights tbh - the card fell apart completely and was nothing like advertised. Think DeGale scored a very early knockout over someone?
Smith-Groves was much more recent though.
It was Smith Degale that I think I mixed up with! I watched Smith Groves at home but Degale Smith was round 9 to Degale. I think that was the night Enzo fought Frenkl.
EDIT: You are correct Beetle - Degale stopped Carl Dilks in a round. His fight with Smith was a couple of months after that one.
