He's not my cup of tea as an MC but for big fights I would still rather see the likes of him doing his job in a British ring than a US 'name' brought over.

It's quite simple really - Mr Burdis decided he'd like to do something so he got of his arse and did it. I'm sure loads of other people could try and give him some competition, but that first step that he has taken over them is quite important really.

Also might help that his brother is really good mates with allegedly  but to be fair as an actor he'd have the right background for it anyway.

I actually don't mind him, although I don't feel particularly strongly about MCs generally.

A really good prank would be to get in touch with him before a big Mayweather fight (ok, it would have been a good prank...) and say Buffer's gone down with tonsilitis and Jimmy Lennon Jr's fishing and nobody's been able to reach him for 3 days and even though it's only Thursday please can we put you on stand-by for Saturday night.....Offer to fly him out, first class- in fact so that he doesn't suss, actually DO fly him out. I bet he'd be bricking it!

I liked Russ Bray the "Tungsten Tonsilled" darts caller doing the MC'ing for the Stieglitz fight. I've crossed paths with Russ a couple of times as a fan, and he's a real gent. I don't mind Mark Burdis either. I think most of these guys do a challenging job in real time, and in the main do a good job.

I care. They can make the announcement of the winner a huge anti-climax if they are as utterly useless as Burdis.

Why does he always mention the colour of the corner when announcing the winner? What percentage of people watching know the colour of each fighter's corner? Under 5 %? Under 1 %?

He's a talentless hack.

Actually you might have a point about MC's,seeing the sight of John McDonald sobbing just before he announces the away fighter has won pisses me off

 I personally like the way he announces an away fighter win in hushed tones, as if he's delivering tragic news to loved ones.

Couldn't agree more, the colour of the corner ruins the announcement, he regularly drops clangers as well. Just last night he made a couple of errors reading the scores.

I really like John McDonald... I think he's got a sense of humour and is fun. I don't mind the Paul Rwwawarghhhh thing either.

Cracks me up every time I see it. Best bit is the look on Dodson's face when he realises he's not getting an intro, looks like he's trying not to piss himself laughing...

Although, on-topic, I fvcking LOVE it when he does have to announce an away fighter as the winner, as someone said he sounds like he's about to start blubbing, which is an image that fills me with joy.

Wow. That is hilarious. I'd never seen it before, just seen it discussed.... But how on earth do you forget a name like 'Smith'.... Especially when it's written on your card in front of your face. That is awesome

I can't believe you can reel of a fighters weight and record and then forget to tell everyone who he is, I don't know what happened with John, up until a few years ago I thought he was one of the better MC's.

Dear oh dear oh dear. That was very poor by McDonald. Gets Lord Lonsdale in but forgets the man who's alive and well in front of him and then reads the record of the other, completely ignores his name then shouts "12 rounds of boxing" how many times...? Very bad.
