>>>Tszyu's a class act, but he did throw a couple of low blows on Hatton. Didn't you see the fight?<<<

Yep, I saw Tszyu land a hard shot that looked low, but the replay showed it to be borderline, though Hatton, not Tszyu landed a very vicious low blow that put Tszyu on his knees. I think you confused the two!

..in one of patterson's early pre-title fights his opponent's mouthopeice came out.....and they guy bent down to pick it up....and floyd tried to help him!!

a very gentle guy.....and was terrified when ingo's foot twitched when he was kayoed in their second fight. he was afraid he'd killed him. he later said he was shocked at his own feelings of near hatred in that bout.

But, to compare the Croatian Comet to Floyd Patterson, for instance, we have to look at their management. Cus D'amato was as clean of illegal influences as a manger can get, but he steered Patterson away from legitimate contenders. Zivic, also had his moment of not fighting the best, when his management team reportedly bought out Charley Burley's contract.

patterson would have killed machen and folley. in fact patterson did kick the shit out of machen. it was embarrasing for machen. to say machen was outclassed would be an understatement. patterson knocked machen down 4 or 5 times and literally beat the shit out of him for 12 rounds. I watched it the other day. my father told me patterson once told him he eased up on machen in the later rounds. i also think patterson would have beat cleveland williams.

Because of his public stand against the IBC and gangsters in general, it would seem that way, but Reg Gutteridge offers this little bit about Cus;

"The oddball manager was also a mass of contradictions because, for all his fierce criticisms of the crooks in boxing, it was well known in the fight game that he kept the company of many shady characters, and among his closest confidants were known Mafia bosses and underworld heavies."

I don't know the validity of that statement, but those are words from someone who claims that he feels "qualified to write about him because, over a period of more than 30 years, we got about as close to him as he allowed anybody to get."

I like Reg Gutteridge. I trust his words, and find him to be very neutral (non-biased) in his views.

Same here, MM, as I also like Gutteridge's writings and find them quite neutral. I trusted/believed his comment about Cus enough to post it, and the only thing I meant by my "don't know the validity" comment is because I've never heard/read those allegations anywhere else (no secondary source, if you will).

I read an interview were Jerry Quarry states that Patterson was the dirtiest fighter he ever fought, but Floyd used his speed to get away with it.

Not saying I agree, just passing the information on.

Only 26 filmed :o doesn't seem much for a modern day great who had so many fights.

I have about 18 fights of Haglers so far.

Are you sure about the number 26? and do you know if any of his fights against Kevin Finnegan or Sugar Ray Seales were filmed?

..decagon quoted delahoya's saying ike quarty had a "disagreeable odor."
doubleM responded with a one word statement..."racist"

doubleM is implying the bad odor comment is because quartey is black. there was no reference to quartey's ...so doubleM is saying that a bad odor comment would be made only about a black man. therefore it is doubleM's response that is racist.

Arguello, Patterson, Louis are as well clean fighters.
What do you mean by "Coetzee was also treated cruely by the British public"?

:o
The public hurled abuse and accused Coetzee of being racist just because he is a South African. But little do they know that Coetzee activley proested against aparthied saying it was a disgraceful reigme and Coetzee had to move around the country in fear of being killed by the white supremacists.

Yep, twenty six is the number I know of so far. The two fights I need are pretty rare - Hagler's fights with Watts (I), and Cabrera.

I've heard a rumour about the Finnegan fights, but no solid evidence that they exist. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I don't know much about Coetzee, but I agree and think he did get a bad rap just because he was from South Africa!

harry greb's behavior in the ring was exemplary and roberto duran was a gentleman inside the ropes as were stanley ketchel and mickey walker. at least i saw nothing untoward, ref.

I can vouch for this statement. Too often, people judge you by the nation you come from. The response of the English public mimicked the apartheid that Coetzee was opposed to.
SOME of the English public.

Please don't tar us all with the same brush.
