I think Lucas looked more demoralised than badly hurt, he'd been outboxed and frustrated for a number of rounds and then Postol began to push him back regularly. The finishing blow was a good one and on target but it wasn't a massively destructive punch, Lucas was aware of the count and his legs seemed strong when he rose. It was a good win for Postol who is very well conditioned, well schooled and effective.

I thought Swift did a better job on Lucas.

But, I think the shock of getting his arse kicked by a guy he was expecting
to dominate is what demoralized him and eventually made him quit.

Postol did his job. Very well.

But I am not on the Viktor bandwagon yet- mostly because I was never all that impressed
with Matthysse, who I consider an average fighter in terms of skill made better by that punch.
But, anytime Lucas got into a situation where his power was neutralized he had a bad showing.

Last night was the same situation for Lucas, except it came from someone he wasnt expecting it to.

I really don't know how you could make that statement. Lucas and DSG fight was an extremely tight fight that all came down to that strange knockdown on the ropes. Postal demolished Lucas last night. I don't think that you could thoroughly beat a man much more than that. Lucas may have won one round all night long and he ended up quitting on one knee because he was a beaten demoralized boxer that had no chance.

As much as I dislike Postal's style, i can't help but be impressed with this KO. He's knocked out Lucas and Aydin in his last 3 fights. That's pretty impressive.

I thought Garcia won pretty decisively even though Matthysse had his moments (by the way, I am not real high on Swift either).
I also think Lucas was a better fighter that night against Danny than what I saw last night.
Undoubtedly, part of that was due to the problems Viktor presented physically.
But, it just looked like Lucas was very ill-prepared for this fight, like he thought he'd just steamroll Postol.
And when he couldn't, he just went through the motions looking for one big shot...then eventually quit.

Jon Molina had Lucas as hurt or more hurt than Postol did.
But Matthysse was much better prepared for that fight, fought thru the adversity and won.
No such desire or fire in Lucas last night.

"At the seventh round, I felt it was 7-2 in Lucas' favor," said Mario Arano. "But, after the seventh round, I could see Lucas getting tired, which surprised me because we had one of the best training camps in his career. Unfortunately in boxing, sometimes you have a good night and sometimes a bad one. Tonight was an example of a bad night. This is not the end for Lucas."

I was very surprised to see what the judges had for scores when the fight was stopped. 1 judge actually had Matthysse ahead and the other two had Postal ahead by 1pt. I might have been influenced by the announcers because they thought that everything Postal threw scored. I guess Matthysse stayed down because he felt something pop in his eye. Maybe it was closer than i thought it was. I don't want to watch that mess again to find out though.

I think he was demoralized *and* thought he might be badly hurt. That punch hit him straight in the eye. Being able to stand up on strong legs doesn't necessarily mean you're ok to go on. (Plus he knew he wasn't in the fight anyway.)

I just meant to emphasise I thought he was physically able to continue but too demoralised to do so. Boxers do get hit in the eye, the throat and the back of the head - mostly they try to continue. It seems he was in the fight according to judges. I think he ought to take a break and rest up, his courage and commitment have never before been in question, if he's wondering about his health in the midst of a world title bout he needs to get his head sorted.

Seems as though Matthysse badly damaged his eye, perhaps a detatched retina. Hope he regains his full vision and comes back.

A over hyped win against a over hyped opponent (Mattysse).. People fell in love with Mattysses power and mediocre boxing skills and thought he was something he wasn't. Postol isn't a world beater, he caught Mattysse on the right night and had the right style. Postol won't go on to dominate the division and he sure as hell isn't beating Crawford.

I was talking to some friends on Facebook about this the other day. It was laughable how much a favorite Mattysse was going into this fight, 3 of us agreed Postol was a live dog in this fight and felt it was more of a 50/50 fight. It's only the people who overhyped Mattysse that are truly shocked, because I'm not and it's even worse that the so called betting experts couldn't see it. I saw Danny Garcia counter the shit outta Mattysse, I saw Provodnikov tag Mattysse a lot (in a fight many people said Mattysse boxed great, but I saw him outbox the most robotic fighter I've seen a long time, whoopty fornicating doo lmao) yet Mattysse gets branded as this killer and Garcia gets shit on.. Garcia isn't even that good, but he's better than Mattysse lol. Postol is a good fighter, Mattysse is a good fighter don't get me wrong but there was was a lot of bullshit hype surrounding Mattysse and there has been for awhile.

Postol is good. He just beat and stopped Lucas with relative ease. Best result the division has seen in quite some time.
