Nathan Cleverly vs. Andrzej Fonfara

Post by Freedom2013 »

Cleverly is up against it here.

He's fighting an Al Haymon-managed boxer, in Fonfara's adopted home town of Chicago. And Andrzej is very good fighter.

What's your prediction for this one?

Fonfara and Cleverly will engage in some Evently Matched FIRST 4 rounds, but from then on the Polish fighter will wear him down and keep Battering him till the Knockout comes around the 9-11 Rounds. A loopsided decision in favor of Fonfara is also very likely.

I keep trying to make a case in my head for Cleverly to win, but I cannot find anything compelling to suggest that he will.

if cleverly is anything like the fighter he used to be at light heavyweight / good work rate decent chin then it could be a cracking fight

depends how much desire he has , hes still relatively young though but seemed to not be as interested in boxing after the kovalev defeat.

I'm a huge Fonfara fan after demolishing my least favorite boxer in history, Chavez Jr. But, I am worried about a let down in this fight for Fonfara. This is the first fight in a LONG time in which he comes in as the favorite. Add the pressure that comes with fighting in your home town. Sprinkled with the fact that Cleverly is a technically sound boxer that could cause frustration. This has all the ingredients for a tough night.

On a different note though, we will definitely see what we have here with Fonfara. This would be a really nice win for him and prove that he is the top contender for an Adonis rematch or a shot at the real light heavy champ, Kovalev.

I fancy Fonfara on points for the main reason I haven't thought Clevs heart been in boxing since the Kovalev fight.
I can see him getting outworked and caught with solid shots.
His chin is good though so it will be a wide uneventful points decision.

Cleverly has been demoralized since Kovalev's beating. He was absolutely pathetic against Bellew. Fonfara UD.

Thanks for adding the "Close" part of the poll Freedom.

I think these two are evenly matched. Being the home fighter may give Fonfara an advantage or it may spur Cleverly on.

I think it will be an interesting fight to watch.

I consider Clev is a little bit disinterested in the game now but if he does still have that spark then he could take this. True he was awful against Bellew but maybe the weight didnt suit him and back at LH he may re-discover something. Sure he has everything stacked against him here but i think there's a danger Fonfara is being over-rated on the back of the JCC win in which Jr couldn't bully a 'smaller' man like he got used to. Wins over Campilo and Karpency are nothing special.

Have to say it's actually a great opportunity for Nathan Cleverly to get back into the thick of it, it's hardly like he's going up against someone he doesn't have the potential to beat on a good day.
That said Nathan hasn't looked good lately and really needs to knuckle down and focus.

Very difficult fight for poor Nathan.

He should have taken on a couple of easier opponents to help restore his confidence.

Talent and ability-wise it's a close matchup, but Cleverly appears to have lost his confidence since the Kovalev fight.

And Fonfara's must be sky high after his last bout but we both know enough to know that it's how they are on the night that matters.

I'd lean towards the home fighter but this is a fight where any outcome is possible.

Cleverly looks like he's on the verge of retirement, seems disinterested and looks like money is his main motivation now not belts. Expect to see him out on more Haymon cards after Fonfara. He's got a Maths degree so he is well educated and has a decent future away from boxing.

Yes. If he gets stopped by Fonfara, he'll be just an "opponent" like Campillo is now.

115-113 Fonfara

Kind of what I expected. Fonfara is good but not much better than
Clev.

The only difference between those 2 tonight were Fonfara's punches were harder, if Cleverly had a solid punch he would have would have won that fight but he couldn't punch the skin off a rice pudding, he landed plenty but they didn't have any effect on Fonfara. Cleverly doesn't really care about the sport anymore its just about the money as he turned down a world title fight for this.
