Deontay Wilder will not face Alexander Povetkin next

Post by Freedom2013 »

Deontay Wilder says he wants to get back in the ring as soon as possible and is looking for a challenger to fight him in January 2016.

He and his management say the negotiations with team Povetkin could take months before reaching an agreement and they won't wait that long.

His next WBC title defense will very likely not be against a bona fide heavyweight contender. He'll likely fight another journeyman not in the Transnational or Ring top 10 and not in the BoxRec top 25.

At least he's fighting every few months which is more than anyone can say about Stiverne.

Wilder will likely fight Povetkin or Wlad late next year. Why should be be idle until then? I want him to face tougher opposition too, but at least he's fighting every few months. I'd rather he fights a Gerber or Briggs in December than no fight at all.

So basically another bum that looks good at first sight?

I guess he just does it for the money and nothing else.
I expect a...:
Arnold Gjergjaj ?
Andy Ruiz Jr?
Dominic Breazeale?
Luis Ortiz?
Alexander Petkovic?

Perhaps even Shannon Briggs? He certainly wants it and why not? He's rank 50 ish isn't he?

I hope so. His track record of a single top 10 opponent in 35 fights doesn't make me hugely confident though.

That would finally make it possible to compare Wilder and Povetkin a little bit because they fought the same opponends.

It took Povetkin 3 rounds to finally win, Povetkin had three hard hits against Wawrzyk and all three of them putted Wawrzyk on the ground.
And that while Povetkin was barely punching at all during the fight.

Fights against a totally over-matched opponent aren't the best for comparison. Povetkin looked like he was going for a stroll and could've probably ended it even more quickly if he wanted to. Wilder could stop Wawrzyk in a round or two and I don't think it would say much about how he'd fare against a much tougher and more durable foe.

Wilder has fought only 1 top 25 HW in his 35-fight career.

The pampering of Wilder hasn't stopped, even though he has a world title. :(

What a disgrace to boxing the WBC is if they let him have another title defense against a journeyman. :shame:

WBC clearly said that he has to fight Povetkin next. Why do they need many months for negotiations ??? Why haven't they started those negotiations ? They need to come up with mutually acceptable terms or go to a purse bid soon.

If all else is equal fighting is no worse than sitting around inactive, but how long until you stop giving him passes for these types of fights against soft opponents when he could be facing better competition? When Molina was announced you wrote:
I got on here to write basically the same thing you did. Wilder DOES deserve a pass here, as long as he doesn't make this a habit. IF, Wilder's next fight after this is Povetkin, Wlad, or another legitimate top 10er, all should be forgiven.
So his opponent after Molina wasn't Povetkin, Wlad, or a top 10er, and I suspect that his next one won't be either, though we don't know yet. If it's someone like Wawrzyk, which would suggest a habit of defending against weak challengers, will you just repeat yourself and say that he gets a pass if the next opponent is legit?

Absolutely spot on crusader

If you're the ones making excuses for Wilder, you're part of the problem.

Hahaha, that would be funny, crowd that doesn't know what they are talking about thinking only Klitschko is left and then they meet the real Povetkin.

If Wilder doesn't fight Povetkin in the first 6 months of 2016, I think the WBC should strip Wilder. There I wrote that. But if he sneaks another fight in with the likes of Wawezyk in December or January I think that's fine.

You know this is truly pathetic.

WBC needs to MANDATE this fight. As in: This fight happens NOW or Wilder gives up the belt.

Whats the point of an organization like WBC having mandatry challengers if theyre not going to enforce it? If thats the case you may as well get rid of a rankings system, flush the belt dwn the fcukin toilet because its not a real champinship.

This is beynd absurd.

I thought WBC had already mandated Wilder to fight Pvetkin. He's already been given 2 vluntary defenses (against piss poor opposition). How many freebies is this guy going t get?

WBC shuld stick to their word and do their fcukin job which is t mandate this fight.

My guess is somebody has bribed the WBC to grant an extension. Totally corrupt.

Malik Scott, Bermane Stiverne & Johann Duhaupas were all in the top 25.

Wilder's record isn't great, but it is improving.

I don't think Wilder's handlers want anything to do with Povetkin, or any other top ten or top twenty, or maybe even top thirty, heavy either. They want to cash out their TV hype job with a big money fight vs Wlad or possibly Fury. Then what do they care if he gets exposed and ko'd? They'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

Scott appears to have taken a dive for his pal Wilder, very similar to Haye and Harrison. Duhaupas was ranked #34 before the fight. They've dropped him down to 38 now.

Interesting theory and it may have merit. But if Povetkin's people can dangle enough $$$$ in front of Wilder's camp, they may take it. Also hopefully the WBC pressures Wilder to defend against Povetkin in the first half of 2016, and they damn well should.

Maybe, but he was still a top 25 ranked fighter.

He deserves to be higher.

Povetkins people paid an effing fortune to get Wlad, maybe this fight could be made....
