Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
You can laugh at that statement all you want but someday, really soon, this could be THE reality.
If you strip away the bravado and the act, what do you have? Just a dynamic boxer with unmatched hand-speed and newly found power that could trample the 140lb scene in a big way. During an ugly loss against Porter in has last fight, I think that he learned an invaluable lesson in that last round when he showed Porter the canvas for the first time in his career: that when he presses on the gas, there's really no one that can hang him. As much as I hate to admit it, I think that he's right. Broner was absolutely brilliant Saturday night. He displayed power and speed unlike that we have seen from him or anybody really. His head is on straight and he is putting in the work and I just think that means some serious issues for the rest of boxing.
He's only 26 years old and already has 4 World Titles...mock him all you want, this kid is going to demolish anything in his path from here on out.

Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
Not seen his fight from Saturday yet but i've never rated this guy. Poor footwork, can;t counter-punch effectively from his shell... reminded me of Berto from that aspect.
I don't give Broner a sniff at 147, if he stays at 140lb he's in the world title scene for sure but wouldn't be picking him vs the likes of Garcia or Providnikov.

That's crazy talk considering the guy isn't #1 (or even #2 or #3) in his own weight class, and has suffered 2 decisive defeats at a higher weight.
He's only 2 years younger than Crawford who is much better than him.

Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
Broner's not even the best in his weight class. He's never gonna be close to being the best in Boxing. Closest he ever came to that was when he looked dominant at 130 and 135 and had some people putting him on P4P lists for a time. That won't happen again.

I would put the Charlo brothers ahead of him on a P4P list and they're younger than he is.

Those world titles are all a joke and you know it.
Dude barely beat paulie. Look what everyone else who is half way decent did to him. That tells you all you need to know about how good broner is.
Has he ever beaten ANYONE that was ranked in the top 10 of whatever weight class he happened to be at?

Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
His title at 135 was the only legit one. DeMarco was definitely top 5 at the time and that was the most impressive performance of Broner's career.
Broner/PDL was an awful fight and should probably have been a draw at best for Broner.
He missed weight by 3.5 pounds against Escobedo.
I dunno what his next best untainted win was. Paulie, Khabib, Litzau, Perez? Not a hugely impressive resume.

From here on out, I don't see any of them beating Broner. I'm a huge fan of TC but he doesn't have the talent that Broner has. Now Broner has found power, goodnight anyone at the 140 pound limit. No one can touch him. I don't care who you name, Broner is the BEST 140 pounder in the world on any given night.jujigatame wrote:That's crazy talk considering the guy isn't #1 (or even #2 or #3) in his own weight class, and has suffered 2 decisive defeats at a higher weight.

What power has he found? Did you see the stoppage win?
Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
I find it funny how all you people were talking about how good Khabib was and how he was going to beat Broner badly. Now no one wants to give Broner any credit for absolutely demolishing this kid Saturday night.
Khabib was a world class boxer who has never been stopped and most people felt should still be undefeated after winding up on the wrong side of a decision versus Vargas last year. Broner had fun in there and toyed with this guy while giving him the beating of his life.
Give credit where it's due. Broner is a nasty dude right now and the other 140 pounders better look the other way when he walks by.

Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
When the ringside doctor, the ref AND your own trainer in the corner think you've taken too much of a beating...I'd say that 's a "stoppage win". John David Jackson should be ashamed of himself for not stopping that fight 4 round earlier when he noticed his boxer's face was shredded beef.punchoutsb wrote:What power has he found? Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
I didn't say it wasn't a stoppage win, I asked what power he found. Not everybody who mashes their opponents face is a power puncher. Broner has good handspeed and landed a lot of shots. He's no different know then he was when Porter beat him; just a little bit lighter.caldo2025 wrote:When the ringside doctor, the ref AND your own trainer in the corner think you've taken too much of a beating...I'd say that 's a "stoppage win". Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
I've always thought he was a very good fighter but the seemed to have a feeling of entitlement about him and he had powerful backers so he could weigh in way over with no penalty etc. His out of the ring shtick is not really my cup of tea but he's trying to sell 'his brand'. I've not yet got to see his latest bout, I can imagine he's a strong fighter at 140 but Postol has a style that will cause problems and of cause Crawford. Broner will beat Theopane - he's too strong but I'd like to see Ashley get a shot and some decent dough.
Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
He found something in that last round with Porter and I noticed that he was sitting down on his punches and that's where the damage came in. He doubled the punch output he had previously with Porter. More than Doubled it. I believe in the old adage that you learn more from a loss than you do from a win and I think that that loss to Porter was the best thing that ever happened to Broner.punchoutsb wrote:I didn't say it wasn't a stoppage win, I asked what power he found. Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
I agree he did learn from the loss, but he also fought a lesser opponent this time. I think a lot of people underrate Broner here, but he's got to prove he's the best at 140 and I don't think he is.caldo2025 wrote: He found something in that last round with Porter and I noticed that he was sitting down on his punches and that's where the damage came in. Dude you must be high. Khabib is a good fighter, but he is not even in the same universe as Crawford. Broner has failed whenever he's taken on elite opponents.caldo2025 wrote:From here on out, I don't see any of them beating Broner. I'm a huge fan of TC but he doesn't have the talent that Broner has. You're never going to get a fair response about Broner here.
Many people on this site hate Broner simply because he is not "their kind of funny". His action are of "poor taste".
I have ZERO tolerance for Tyson Fury's brand of comedy. Yet, many people here defend all of his childish stupidity.
I watched the Batman thing thinking no adult in the world would find it funny or amusing or sensible. But ...
Instead of hating Tyson Fury because his definition of humor is annoying to me, I ignore his antics because they aren't for me.
In the ring, Broner made 1 big mistake, fighting at 147. 140 and under, Broner is a tough night for anyone.
I don't know about p4p, but I could see 2016 ending with Broner being #1 at 140, which is saying a lot.

Thanks for preaching this quick message, BI! None of us knew where you stood in the judgement of Tyson Fury's humor, and now we all feel enlightened!BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Many people on this site hate Broner simply because he is not "their kind of funny". His action are of "poor taste".

Re: Adrien Broner- The best in Boxing?
People who support Broner tend to forget he fought an outgunned Carlos Molina at 140. Molina hadn't fought for a while, since the Khan defeat. Khan stopped him, Broner won a decision where I thought Molina easily could have won 2 or 3 rounds. He then fought the same Taylor the Algeri easily defeated. Broner went life and death and if he didn't get a knockdown in the last round, the fight was a draw. He then fought and easily outboxed Molina.
None of those fights did he display this awesome power or speed. Folks, it's the same Broner as before. He was supposed to learn from the Maidana fight. Now the Porter fight. He just can't beat B+ level and above fighters. Nothing wrong with that. Khabib was a B level guy, but came in not fighting in over a year and only his second fight in two years. He was over-rated barely edging an old Guzman on the cards in a fight that was stopped early. Guzman practically retired after that.
Nice win for Broner Saturday night, but it's more in the same. He can't beat guys that pressure and have power/work rate/pressure. Khabib had none of those assets.

You're right that Crawford doesn't have the talent that Broner has. Because he has far more talent than Broner has. Crawford, Matthysse, Provodnikov, Postol and maybe a few others would be too much for Broner at 140.caldo2025 wrote:From here on out, I don't see any of them beating Broner.
