bobo bash knockout over humphrey mcbride is incorrect

I found a clipping of the Humphrey McBride fight with Bobo Bash in 1973. McBride knocked Bash completely out in the 2nd round. I am unable to link the article here or post the photo of it. However, if you google search Claude "Humphrey" McBride and then click on images, there is a photo of the Bash fight along with the article. Boxrec lists Bash the winner, it should be McBride.

The result of the 1973-6-5 bout was a win for Bash and is definitely correct. As far as the image you came across, since McBride was wearing a shirt it likely was an exhibition match.

it's possible the rematch didn't happen

The rematch was scheduled for June 19 1973 and didn't come off. The clipping you found is from more than a year later and likely refers to an exhibition bout between the two.

For what its worth, I believe McBride did fight in a tank top from time to time -- apparently no rule against it when he fought.

I bought the clipping from Pugilists' website, mostly because of a big thread we had years ago about this subject and trying to ascertain the real identity of BoBo Bash and his strange record of having fought in so many wildly varied weight classes in such a short time. The photo shows Humphrey kayoing Bash as mentioned and the accompanying text states that it was a legit fight and mentions nothing about an exhibition. I suspect there was a rematch that simply is not documented other than this picture and article, which clearly is from a legit boxing magazine from what's on the backside.

As an aside, when I interviewed Tony Gardner last summer he went into lengthy detail about a rematch with Dennis Haggerty in Memphis that he considered one of the highlights and most important fights of his career and was very surprised there was no record of it happening.
