The WBA is the most disgraceful sanctioning organization.
Oquendo and Chagaev are both faded and neither is a top 25 heavyweight, so the belt is meaningless.

The independent rankings of The Ring (#8), Boxing Monthly (#9) and boxrec (#13) would all disagree with you - as would Pianeta, I am sure.
Fancy naming 24 heavyweights who would beat him?

I think Chagaev has enough left to be considered a top 15 heavyweight.

Then he should stop or at least dominate old Fres Oquendo.pound per pound wrote:I think Chagaev has enough left to be considered a top 15 heavyweight.Freedom2013 wrote:The WBA is the most disgraceful sanctioning organization.

When I see Fedosov, Hammer, Scott, even Mansour in the top 25, I think Chagaev is definitely in that league or better. He's just not "super heavyweight" size at 5'11".
Re: Ruslan Chagaev vs Fres Oquendo, Kiel Germany, October 17
Chagaev obviously is not as good as he once was but he's still comfortably inside the top 15.
Oquendo will show up, do enough to finish on his feet then complain about not getting a decision.

He didn't stop or dominate Oquendo in their previous fight, which was only two fights ago, so there is insufficient reason to expect that he will do so this time.Freedom2013 wrote:Then he should stop or at least dominate old Fres Oquendo.pound per pound wrote:I think Chagaev has enough left to be considered a top 15 heavyweight.Freedom2013 wrote:The WBA is the most disgraceful sanctioning organization.

Really interesting to see Browne face the winner.
He's been in limbo since he became mandatory.
Age isn't on his side, so the last thing he needs is promotional issues.
He looked good against Towers.
I like Chagaev the only thing he lacked in his prime was size.

In my opinion he's a rank 4 ish of the world, I can't name more then 3 boxers that can beat him actually.Freedom2013 wrote:The WBA is the most disgraceful sanctioning organization.

Chagaev has been shot to pieces for years, but it seems he's actually starting to get a second wind. He'll beat Frez "I'm hiding behind my gloves" Oquendo by point again. Fres will complain he was robbed for the umpteenth time and will try and get a third shot.
Be interesting to see Chagaev/Brown or Chagaev/Wilder. In his prime Ruslan takes either based on what we've seen so far. At this stage I doubt he beats either but they would be competitive fights.

Hearing doubts about this fight actually taking place on October 17th.

Who the f*ck gives a sh*t about Pianeta's opinion? If Deontay Wilder beats Eric Molina, that doesn't mean I should give a rat's ass who Eric Molina disagrees with. There is very scant evidence that Pianeta is a top 50 heavyweight, and The Ring (unranked), Boxing Monthly (unranked), and boxrec (#60) would agree with me on that. IBO's computerized rankings also place him at #58.Gnome wrote:Freedom2013 wrote:The WBA is the most disgraceful sanctioning organization.

Boxrec doesn't say everything, Steve Cunningham is rank 11 according to boxrec, but whenever he fought anyone good from Europe he lost, even against cruiserweights.Lackeos wrote:Who the f*ck gives a sh*t about Pianeta's opinion? There are many fighters that were good cruiserweights that are now suddenly ranked as heavyweights, and turn out to be bums in that league.
Take a look at Wilder opponends for example.
He fought Damon McCreary, a 14 win 0 loses boxer that won 10 out of those matches by KO.
Now this must be some serious guy right? Turns out he only had 3 fights in the past 11 years and gained over 90 pounds during those years and is now suddenly a heavyweight instead of the 166 pound boxer he once was.
You can't take such guys serious, but in boxrec they do.
Bermane Stiverne, rank 14 of the world, who has he ever fought against? Willie Herring?
You can't take such ranks seriously, Americans are usually ranked loads higher because they fight a massive amount of bums, or fight cruiserweights and then suddenly gain some pounds. David Haye, he's not an American, but he's basically the same story, he was a good cruiserweight, but simply quite a bum heavyweight.

+1, I can only name 4 personsGnome wrote: So you wanna name 24 heavyweights who would beat Chagaev?
Wladimir Klitschko
Alexander Povetkin
Anthony Joshua
and Pulev (and I already doubt about that latest one)
Chagaev would beat, or have at least a serious chance of beating anyone else.

Some media reports in Europe are reporting Oquendo is injured and this fight is off, at least for now.
They are trying to get a new opponent for Chagaev.
According to a Bulgarian site, they tried to get Pulev, but he said he needed more time to train to fight a southpaw.

We might get to see Briggs get his last shot at a meaningless title.
I predict Jennings or Ustinov if they can not get Briggs

Now it looks like they have officially cancelled the event because they couldn't find a WBA-ranked opponent on short notice.tiny_acres wrote:I would of loved to have seen Chagaev vs Pulev

Lucas Browne is apparently injured and so he couldn't step in.

Wow. See someone called David Haye a bum at heavyweight.
You obviously only ever saw the Wlad fight.
He beat Valuev and Ruiz who even though both were limited they were world champions.
Calling a 2 weight world champion a bum shows a lack of class and a severe lack of boxing knowledge.

Valuev had full time pain in his bones and already was in pain by simply standing, next to that it was still an unfair lose, Valuev was clearly the better fighter, while he was the worser fighter against the 46 year old in Valuev his match before.PredatorHayds wrote:Wow. Ruiz wasn't any special, David Tua did a better job against him in his prime as David Haye did when he retired.
