Lightweight season: HOF OFFICIAL VOTE ***

Post by armageto »

It's been mentioned a few times on and off. So here it is, the official HOF vote for the Lightweight season.

The three fighters who are up are; Roberto Duran, Henry Armstrong & Benny Leonard

Rules;
A Manager may have 3 votes... There are 6 options.
Managers will have 3 DAYS!!! - Before the vote closes.
No re-voting... After you've had your vote, you can't change it.

Roberto Duran
Super Six Champion (undefeated).
Finished the season as Undisputed Lightweight Champion, holding all four World Titles.
Finished the season as number one in the official rankings. (2307.1 pts)
3-time Lonsdale Champion.

Henry Armstrong
Finished 2nd in the Super Six.
Finished 3rd in the official rankings. (2193.2 pts)
Helped start off the birth of Lonsdale (against Duran in week 19)
Only lost the Lonsdale Belt & Undisputed Title by a DQ to Mayweather - and it may have cost him the Super Six Championship. Definitely a slice of bad luck there.
Won the most fights this season - 30 wins.

Benny Leonard
The Millionaire Champion. (Defeated 3 fighters who later went into the Super Six to win the MDT - Ross, Armstrong & Mayweather)
Had a 19 week win streak (nearly half a season)

On the performance of his last fight alone, JLC should be put to the front of the line.

And entire seasons worth of sterling effort wrapped in a single victory.

He and Pernell Whitaker should have a lock on it.

Duran. Armstrong and Leonard for me. Mr Gans slapped Whittaker so he's no place in the Hall without Old Joe

In my view, the Lightweight season is a difficult one to judge. I wouldn't necessarily say that any fighter dominated it from start-to-finish, nor would I say that we had a definite and conclusive number one.

But three men to come in to question when we discuss the HOF for this season - Duran, Armstrong & Leonard.

Re: Hall of Fame Nominations?

For me, I have always believed that only 1 fighter from each season should get into the HOF - and for me, this season it has to be Roberto Duran.

I gave full respect to Benny Leonard for his MDT victory, but is already noted in the MDT Roll of Honour and it can be seen in the MDT Champions thread. For that reason, I think that is enough of an honour for Benny.

As for Hank, whilst I admire any fighter who can win 30 fights out of 40 in the sim, when it came down to it - Duran just nudged him out of the Super Six Championship and defeated him in the 1st week of the competition.

For me, it's Roberto.

There is just no way someone had a better year than Leonard.

He beat everyone!!!

He won 19 in a row. There was like 6 months he didn't lose a fight.

I'm sure I'm prejudice but to me it seems crazy that someone can think Duran had better year.

They all deserve it.

Leonard dominated most of the season and won the MDT and also has a winning record vs Duran and Armstrong.

Duran finished on top with all the major belts and winning the super six.

Armstrong finished the year with the most wins(only man to hit 30) and most K.O's he also won every world title, which was not easy to do this season.

I think all 3 of these performances should be remembered in the Hall of Fame.

So are final scores are; (including Tomasino's votes)

Roberto Duran - 7 yes votes, 0 no votes. (But I think that Mr Duran was always going to get in what with his strong finish to the season)

Henry Armstrong - 4 yes votes, 3 no votes. (Armstrong gets in by the very skin of his teeth)

Benny Leonard - 4 yes votes, 4 no votes. (And as such, he does NOT make it in because the vote was tied - alas, so near yet so far)

And in order to prevent this becoming an ongoing issue, this thread is now going to be locked. The vote closes and we move on...

Commiserations to Mr DaveyMac and Benny, but not everyone can get into the exclusive HOF.
