Samoan boxer Falani Tavu'i 4-1 will fight a Chinese opponent for the WBO vacant Cruiser weight title to be held in China next weekend.

The President of Samoa's South Pacific Professional Boxing Federation, Ale Vena Ale, says Farani will be rated fifth in the world if he wins.

"Under the contract if he wins we will make a call and his first defence will also be in Beijing in China. His opponent is a guy called Max Singh. He's got four fights [and] four wins - he's a newly upcoming Chinese boxer".

Tavu'i competed in the main Super 8 competition in Christchurch earlier this year.

Find it funny. Make that astonishing. That a guy with a 4-1 record, who lost his last fight, can fight for a "world" title next weekend, against an as yet unnamed opponent, and the winner could possibly get the #4 world ranking.

You may need to ask the President of Samoa's South Pacific Professional Boxing Federation, Mr Ale Vena Ale, that question. He's the one claiming the winner will rocket to a #5 world ranking.

It ain't. It's WBO China Zone cruiserweight, which has never been contested
China Zone titles have been around since Nov 2009 contested 10 times - 5 by same local Yi Ming Ma & Welliver twice.
Last contest was in Jun 2012

So President of Samoa's South Pacific Professional Boxing Federation, Ale Vena Ale, may have left a zero or two off when he claimed the winner would be #5 world rated

I suspect WBO China Zone title is nothing more than promoter Liu Gang's title.....Remember him wile Melbourne based puncher & tragic incident against Lance Hobson?

I'll never ever, ever, ever forget Hobson sitting in the corner during rest period throwing punches into thin air...bell sounded...he got up...took three steps & collapsed...Absolutely dreadful sight.

To this day, I fail to understand how the corner, referee nor doctor could see something was seriously amiss.

It really makes you wonder how some people sleep at night. Doesn't it.
