Jimmy Ellis vs Floyd Patterson. Very interesting fight. Ellis took some real battering shots. His nose was splattered. Ellis done some very effective work also. A good match on the earlybird satellite.

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Understandably nearly 4 years in exile didint help Ali and he was a totally different fighter from the 1 who used to bamboozle fighters by sticking and moving,in and out, blistering combinations and excellent lateral movement,he found another way, effective too in its own right but it wasnt beautiful boxing,he still showed cameos of the speedy flurrys and a sharp jab but 90% of the time he backed up usually laying on the ropes, spoiling, holding and leaning on opponentsstevedoc wrote:I said recently in another thread that these were the first fights of Ali that I saw and I wasn't impressed at allhandsofstone wrote:Muhammad Ali vs Ken Norton 1,2+3

Im not taking anything away from his achievements i love him and have more dvds and books of him than anyone else and his accomplishments cant be denied but if im honest the most boring thing about him is his style(post excile

Next up for me is Danny Lopez vs Mika Ayala
Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Good shout, McCauley was quite inexperienced, he had only just won British title before taking on bassa , he did well to come back from those defeats a lesser fighter might of been ruined.stevedoc wrote:Sticking with the little guys Dave boy McCauley vs Fidel bassa both fights were great

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
For the last several months ive been working through a top 100 list watching all the classics,im up to about 51 but ive watched a lot more because ive been watching every match up,for instance Ali-Frazier 3 was number 1 but before watching the Thrilla,i watched the first 2 fights before, and ive done this all the way up the list so ive probably watched nearly 150 classics lately, which is why you might have noticed throughout this thread ive watched all the match ups between the fighters,
A lot of them ive seen before but even more i hadnt

A few strange choices for me in that list I don't think Ali v Norton 3 was a great or entertain fight myself or hagler vs Leonardhandsofstone wrote:For the last several months ive been working through a top 100 list watching all the classics,im up to about 51 but ive watched a lot more because ive been watching every match up,for instance Ali-Frazier 3 was number 1 but before watching the Thrilla,i watched the first 2 fights before, and ive done this all the way up the list so ive probably watched nearly 150 classics lately, which is why you might have noticed throughout this thread ive watched all the match ups between the fighters,
