Flanagan - Magdaleno (WBO Lightweight)

Post by klitoris »

This is pretty much the only good card this Saturday which is actually quite surprising.
I'd say Flanagan has a good shot, but it's a 50/50. Haven't seen much of Magdaleno though.

I'll be rooting for Smith on this card too to win that vacant 154 WBO belt.

Flanagan on points.

He has a great workrate. He will outwork him and get a wide points decision.

Vijender Singh vrs Sonny Whiting. I saw the first two rounds then missed the rest because the take-out arrived at the front door at that point. Singh was winning, infact Whiting looked the more nervous considering it was VS's debut, using a lot of nervous energy trying to survive. I take it Singh won from the interview afterwards but don't know how it transpired. Did anybody see it?

Anybody coming late to this bill is missinga hell of a fight beteween Tom Stalker & Craig Evans, 4 rounds of blood and thunder, 2 rounds each. Neither of them are huge punchers or the fight would be over by now. Terrific stuff!

Evans noticably slowed down in round 5 & 6, but still, this bout provided the best opening round I've seen in a long time.. Stalker 2 rounds ahead.

Magdaleno was poor. Couldn't close the range, swung wild hooks to the body with his head low and exposed. Great job by Terry to make him pay but want to see him vs more accomplished fighters.

Magdeleno seemed to have an issue with the soles on his boots, he did the splits maybe 3 times, trying to step into range. He was very easy to hit though and Terry beat him fair and square and he did it in ease and style. Terry wasn't really seen as a big hitter but he's hitting hard and accurately, he's really developing a very effective style and works very hard.

Magdaleno always fights low with his head low but Terry is the only fighter to make him pay. He could knock out king Kong and he wouldn't get any credit. He's a top 5 lightweight at the least and I would put him top 3.

Flanagan just looked incredible.

He could be the best lightweight there at the moment.

Frank going to make the Derry fight for early 2016.

Derry surely goes in with a punchers chance at best against Flannagan now

I didn't realise Flanagan could punch aswell til last night.

I'm happy for any of the lightweights to face off.

I'm a big Derry fan so don't really want to see him against Flanagan. Matthews-Crolla is what I'd like but the Derry-Flanagan fight is the easy one to make.

I don't see the Crolla vs Derry fight being hard to make, with Derry holding the interim WBA and I fancy Crolla to lift the ordinary version.

No disrespect to Derry, I too enjoy watching him fight, but I wouldn't fancy him against Crolla, I think he again is a level below. Same goes for Campbell and an on form Mitchell.

The 4 leading brits at lightweight are all world or fringe world class. I don't see Derry having much more than a punchers chance against any of them. (although that's what makes him entertaining, is he's always in it as long as he's on his feet)

I wouldn't mind seeing him test Cardle. I think i'd give the edge to Cardle and it would be a good way to gauge if he's ready to move up into that group I mentioned

Odds of a Linares/Flanagan unification fight being made? Seems like that would be the biggest fight at 135 right now.

Would love to see Flanagan against Linares but it wont happen until he (Flanagan) knocks out a British lightweight or 2 first (which he would but Hearn wont let his fighters near him), probably will get Flanagan against Mathews then hopefully he will unify after that.

The difficulty in matching the Brits is that some are with Matchroom some with BN and these fights don't seem to get made.

This is the main reason I can't see Derry- Crolla happening. The WBA would have to mandate it to happen.
