Guys - there is a simple remedy.

Get your tickets off the fighters.

They will be delighted to sell you them at face value.

What would be the chances of getting tickets off a fighter on a huge bill like Froch vs Groves 2 though? Pretty slim I'd imagine.

Not at all.

Even on the biggest bills, the undercard fighters are given an allocation to sell. Obviously, they offload them faster for the bigger cards, but if you message them on Facebook or Twitter as soon as you hear they're added to the bill, you can set up a meet to buy tickets easily.

Buying direct from the fighter is a good tactic. I bought tickets for a Rendall Munroe fight before - no admin fees or postal issues, just face value and delivered to my local by a mate of his

Scott Quigg met us on the motorway, Kell Brook met my pal on the actual morning of his first defence, Adam Etches got us six for the sold out Hatton comeback bill, Scott Cardle's dad sorted us out four for the Froch-Groves 1 and Kevin Mitchell's mam sorted four out for Froch-Groves 2. It's easy.

Maybe not quite that rare level (although as said undercard fighters will) but pretty much anything below that massive type of show.

Even big arena shows, Sam Eggington recently came out his way to meet me with tickets for the Gavin fight (top lad he was too despite following him for a while now hadn't met before yet he was happy to stay and have a chat with me and my mate for a good half hour and only left as he had to shoot off to drop off more tickets) and Tommy Langford sorted me out for his title defense in October as he's done previously. Both sound lads!

If you don't use social media etc still can always check any fighter on the card who has their own website. Go through there they might charge a couple of quid to cover postage/paypal fees etc but will still be cheaper than the arena website.

Why? This isn't me being a capitalist pig-dog, I simply can't follow the logic. Beyond the initial admin saving offering, surely the onus is on the buyer to determine the actual value of the product - more or less?

Clearly it's in the interests of consumer protection, simple as that? I'm not against capitalism in the slightest, but when effectively legalised touts are block-buying huge swathes of tickets using their close connections to the promoter/venue, then immediately advertising them online for c. 400% of the face value, it's time for the government/regulators to step in.

Boxing tickets are a luxury item, not water or emergency medical attention. Those in possession of them are well within their rights to price the tickets as they see fit. Some consumers may need protecting from themselves, but that's a different issue.

From the promoter's perspective, it is clear to see the numerous benefits of using the StubHubs of the world.

Make friends with them ...... many many fighters are on ticket deals so they'll be glad of you business.
Take the Brook event.
My daughter's neighbour has been put on the undercard and needs to sell tickets so I might as well get mine off him and give him a helping hand at the same time.

Yeah we've got tickets through undercard fighters for relatively big shows in the past, if possible definitely the way to go to avoid all these fees etc and the general sitting in front of a PC for a morning just to watch it constantly crash etc due to demand.

I've made and lost money this way. Very few boxing events are profitable in the touting game. They won't even open half The O2 on Saturday.

Yeah agreed it makes sense to get tickets from guys on the undercard. Even when events sell out. I managed to get a Froch vs Groves ticket from Stephen Smith when it was sold out everywhere online.

So the Joshua Whyte fight is selling very well after going on sale today apparently 15,000 sold.

However go on stubhub there are absolutely loads for the fight at 2,3 even 4 times face value go and see for yourself below.

15,000 sold yeah alright but a good chunk of that has gone straight to stubhub. Its not just boxing that has this problem however this partnership isn't even being discreet about tickets going straight there.

It is, but certain clubs and national teams have official partners now!

It's definitely illegal to sell them at more than face value, not sure if it's illegal to sell them at/below the face cost though? Anyway, it should be illegal to profit out of any sporting events to protect the consumer, don't know why it only applies to football at present.

Fully agree. It's all or nothing. I still can't believe people can scalp rugby world cup tickets yet at the Olympics you could be nicked for putting a pepsi sign on your house if you were within a certain distance of a venue

The real problem I have with this arrangement is not particularly that people who have tickets for genuinely sold out events will look to make a profit on them (although I do disagree with this). It is more that it is absolutely clear that Matchroom are deliberately "selling out" shows before members of the general public have chance to get their hands on tickets and then are putting those tickets on a secondary reselling site for huge uplifts. It is utterly scandalous. No doubt Matchroom would deny they do this but anyone who believes all of their events (be they darts, boxing etc) sell out in next to no time is being very naïve.
