Mcguigan Blocks Frampton-Quigg

Post by Manchester Hitman »

Well that's it then isn't it? Unless Bazza suddenly
Makes an embarrassing u-turn he's basically fecked the fight off - cheers Barry :TU:

The fight makes Zero sense out of Manchester due to loss of revenues from smaller venues - it's a pathetic excuse to block the fight. Frampton would probably have more fans then Quigg in the fcking arena anyway.

The whole valid title crap they keep spouting is also pisssing me off- that went out of the window when Scott banged Martinez out in 2.

I have to think now they don't fancy the fight.

It doesn't say that anywhere. They're still negotiating for the fight, the venue is one of the things up for discussion, doing it at the O2 would be no different revenue wise to Manchester, Hearn himself has admitted that, it just isn't available when they want it. They'll probably end up backing down anyway for a bigger split of the purse.

Both sides are just playing games to try and get the best deal possible, Hearn talking about splitting the MEN in half is just him trying to get some support for Quigg in the arena, if they didn't Frampton would have most of the support from the crowd, McGuigan talking about a neutral venue and other options, they're just negotiating tactics, I don't see the need to read so much into them.

Quigg isn't world champion, he could knock out King fornicating Kong with one punch and he wouldn't be unless he beats Rigo, beating Martinez proved that he's a world class fighter, didn't make him a world champion though, it's a fake, plastic title, no better than the WBU, IBO, WBF and all the others knocking about.

There definitely seems to be less confidence coming out of Frampton's camp since his last fight.

I won't read too much into what has been said here. Promoters/managers come out with this kind of thing all the time when negotiating fights. It does look as if McGuigan doesn't fancy it though but both fighters want it IMO. That should be the be all and end all. It is pretty frustrating though! From the outside looking in McGuigan does seem a pretty difficult guy to deal with.

I always liked Quigg in this. Once Quigg finds range I think he'll have too much for Frampton. More natural fighter out the two.

The fight will be made. The thread header is misleading. It should say mcguigan wants fight but not in Manchester. It makes sense to me why its not Manchester.

Prior to the last fights i'd have gone for Frampton, but have changed my mind and like Quigg now for the win, wherever it's held.

either way it's a fantastic match up and it must happen soon, could be another of the great fights that gets lost along the wayside and everybody loses out .

Absolutely ridiculous excuse. Its clear to me that they are afraid of Quigg, otherwise you go where the money is.

I do agree with Quiggs fake title narrative in principle, but in the light of other utterly childish demands I suspect that this is also a mere excuse to dodge the fight.

This weight class turned into a complete disappointment. Its all either ducks or divas.

How so? From what i can gather, they are mainly just saying that Quigg doesn't have a real title, which we on here all agree and also that he can't sell tickets which he can't, especially in comparison to Frampton.

There is a certain smugness from Shane a mcguigan in particular when it comes to Quigg. Also whilst they didn't say it they seemed to be taking the pisss out of Quiggs speach impediment when they started saying scott made a fool of himself when he got on the ring in Belfast and did the itv interview.

In regards tickets if Carl was from The Manchester area he wouldn't be sellin out areas either. When there's nothing else going on in a sporting sense like there isn't where car is from it's easy to be an attraction IMO

I'll take on your first point, if that's been happening then yeah it's a bit off.

Disagree with your second point though. There have been plenty of good boxers from the North and none of them have sold like Frampton in recent years. Just being from Manchester is no excuse for not selling tickets, Hatton was selling everywhere out. Some fighters just have a bit that people can connect with and want to be part of. Frampton has that and there are better fighters out there who don't have it. Even Calzaghe struggled to sell tickets when he was a world champion and Wales isn't exactly a hotbed of sporting excellence (well at the time he was champ anyway). He was tagged onto cards and eventually was able to step out on his own.

I take your point about the belt but the fact is Carl only won it off Martinez who then got banged in 2 by Quigg. Years before that the same Martinez was easily beaten twice by Rendal Monroe... Yes, Frampton has the slightly better CV overall but it's not like he is the divisional kingpin he is just a belt holder who won it off a guy Quigg also beat but in more devastating fashion. The valid title rubbish is not a reason for the fight not to happen. Carl Froch was only WBA regular champion but that didn't stop him having huge fights against Kessler etc

Yes, they seem to be negotiating but they've been doing this on and off for a few years now.
I am usually a massive critic of Hearn and have been pro team Frampton in this saga but I'm now unable to find a fault in the way fast Eddie has been trying to handle this fight.

The McGuigans are coming up with ridiculous demands about neutral venues as if going to Manchester for them is the equivalent of Tyszu coming over to face Hatton at 2am even though he was an elite name and divisional boss.

They're also bringing no money to the table
And if as I now fear they don't take the fight no blame should be attached to Hearn or Quigg

I know you are on the side of Quigg but you are really overplaying his win and downplaying Frampton's over Martinez. Yes, Munroe beat Martinez twice before Frampton but you can't downplay that and then not say that Frampton beat Martinez twice before Quigg fought him.

I'm not really on the side of anybody boss- I just want to see the Fcuking fight as I'm sure you and everybody else does. All I'm saying is the belt thing is not a reason for the negotiations to fall through. I credited Carl as having slightly the better CV but he won his belt off Martinez not LSC or Rigo so his standing is not as great as Mcguigan makes out, far from it IMO.

Both kids did a good job on Kiko buts that's kind of the point - both Carl & Scott share the same best opponent and done the business.

It just appears that one side in Quigg/Hearn are making all the consessions whilst the other comes up with different obsticals to block the fight. this is not Mayweather v Pac or Cotto - Canelo. It is a 'legit' belt holder v 'regular' belt holder - the fight needs to get made.

Whether the fight is made or not eventually, this is a wonderful example of how managers and TV are just ruining boxing. These two should have fought a couple of years ago, but managers hate the thought of someone losing their 0. Lets get the fight on and watch Frampton make Quigg look bang average.
