If there was no super middleweight division it would increase the likelihood that we'd get a good fight like GGG vs Ward.
No, it wouldn't. On the contrary, if Ward was fighting at 175, there would be a smaller chance that 160-pound GGG would move up to fight him.
Besides, I doubt that Ward would be the man at 175.

If Ward wasn't the man at 175, that would mean he'd lose to Kovalev and/or Stevenson. I didn't mean to say GGG would fight Ward if there was no Super M. division, but it may increase the chances. Too many divisions not only creates more confusion for the fans, but it prevents super fights.
Imagine If Aaron Pryor had to fight either Duran or Leonard, but he didn't have to because he had his own division. I'll never apologize for believing there are too many "champions" and too many divisions.

Fewer divisions would leave fighter outgrowing their weight class in a very hard situation. Can you imagine Murray, Rubio, Quillin fighting at 175 ?
Once again, if there was no 168 division, then Ward would fight at 175, not 160.
If a Rubio can't make 160, but pecan't beat someone at a 175 limit, weight is probably not the problem. But granted 160, 168, and 175 isn't as ridiculous as 135, with the next weight division only 5 higher at 140.
I think Ward would have a good shot now at beating Stevenson even if Ward only weighed 168.

i posted this to you in another thread. maybe i am daft, but cant you guys follow this:
Percentages of weights ? 5 pounds between 130 and 135, 7 pounds between 168 and 175. Weight/size difference in lower weight class is actually bigger percentage wise. ? no ?

I do see your point. I'm not a math major or anything but yes I do realize there is a greater % difference at a lower weight. Ie. you've won a higher % of fights if 2-1 than at 9-8. But I still think 5 pounds isn't enough for a new weight class, maybe 10 pounds at the lower weights and 15 pounds at higher weights.

Not in you example. They are about the same, but 5/130 is a little lower than 7/168.
I think personally that GGG is too small to fight Ward. He's clearly not a big 160 lb fighter, and Ward is a big 168 lb fighter, who looks set to move to 175.
GGG hasn't got the height or reach, or the boxing style to be successful at higher weights I don't think, he's a thinking pressure fighter, and that style does not translate well into moving up the weights. His power will be less effective at higher weights, and he will be going forward against bigger stronger men, who will ultimately be able to take his shots and hit back, the one time he looks ineffective is on the back foot, and bigger men will be able to put and keep him there.
I think realistically, he should stay where he is, and just continue to dominate the division. A fight with Canelo should be on the cards at some stage, and that could do big numbers.

Gonna be busy that night hosting a competition where the outcome is actually a mystery, unlike this PPV.
No way china-chinned Lemieux get out of the 4th round. I will watch it Sunday or whenever I can find a link.
Folks DO have one thing pegged right when it comes to my take on lil' g. I do like the guy as a fighter and I do think he is a good guy and potential role model.
But, until he steps up and decides to be great, I will continue to call him exactly what he is...an underachiever who is avoiding his biggest challenges.[/quote]
I don't get it. Is this about the Ward thing? GGG's goal from the very beginning was to unify the titles at Middleweight. Not move up to fight a guy that can't sell any tickets. Maybe they will fight one day when GGG has nothing else to fight fellow middleweights for but he shouldn't be judges for not fighting someone not in his weight class. No matter what.

Agree. Just dominate 160. it's a great divisions. Hagler and Monzon did it all there.
I do feel he forces fights to try and make them more exciting. He wasn't a bigger contract and without the name she needs to KO people dramatically. I think if he needed to box to order he could.

Yeah at 160 - but don't think he'd be able to outbox top level guys at 168, just not got the right physical tools.
