Re: Quote from legend
Chuck Wepner wasn't a legend. But he was fighting one when he came out with a funny quote:
It's 1975, and Wepner vs Muhammad Ali. During the 9th round Wepner decks Ali and walks away in the direction of his corner as the referee applies the count.
Wepner: "Al, start the car. We are going to the bank. We are going to be millionaires!"
Wepner's Manager Al: "You better turn around Chuck. Ali is getting up and he looks really pissed off."

Keith Ellis used to slap his fighters faces from the corner to switch them on. I've seen others do it too. It's an old practice that would proceed Hyder and Fenech by generations.ClivePatrickLyons wrote:DA GOOSE wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv69bW_13aY

I'v been around this game long enough Lika a Boss to know that slapping Big Bob Mirovic in the face when he's getting punched their by a big heavyweight did nothing in regards to giving him advice to win the fight so Lika a Boss until I see footage of Angelo Dundee/Roach/Garcia or some-one from that league of boxing trainer I will say its one of the dumbest thing i'v seen a trainer do.......was Hyder ever in Tyson corner :??
if he was he should have tried the face slapping with Iron Mike to see if it helped fu.. that would have been funny.Tyson chasing Hyder out of the arena

I said it's an old practice.Nowhere did I say it's a good practice, nor one I personally endorse, and nowhere did I say Angelo Dundee/Roach/Garcia used it.ClivePatrickLyons wrote:I'v been around this game long enough Lika a Boss to know that slapping Big Bob Mirovic in the face when he's getting punched their by a big heavyweight did nothing in regards to giving him advice to win the fight so Lika a Boss until I see footage of Angelo Dundee/Roach/Garcia or some-one from that league of boxing trainer I will say its one of the dumbest thing i'v seen a trainer do.......was Hyder ever in Tyson corner :??

Have a listen to you ''I said this I said that'' didn't you say it switched them on [the ones that got slapped in the face] remember it switches them on I didn't say it you did...............So my take on that is that you agreed it worked the face slapping and in my view its a bullsh.t tactic.thats all.Like a Boss wrote:I said it's an old practice.Nowhere did I say it's a good practice, nor one I personally endorse, and nowhere did I say Angelo Dundee/Roach/Garcia used it.ClivePatrickLyons wrote:I'v been around this game long enough Lika a Boss to know that slapping Big Bob Mirovic in the face when he's getting punched their by a big heavyweight did nothing in regards to giving him advice to win the fight so Lika a Boss until I see footage of Angelo Dundee/Roach/Garcia or some-one from that league of boxing trainer I will say its one of the dumbest thing i'v seen a trainer do.......was Hyder ever in Tyson corner :??

That it switches them on is indeed the theory. Here, educate yourself a little:ClivePatrickLyons wrote:Have a listen to you ''I said this I said that'' didn't you say it switched them on [the ones that got slapped in the face] remember it switches them on I didn't say it you did...............So my take on that is that you agreed it worked the face slapping and in my view its a bullsh.t tactic.thats all.Like a Boss wrote:I said it's an old practice.Nowhere did I say it's a good practice, nor one I personally endorse, and nowhere did I say Angelo Dundee/Roach/Garcia used it.ClivePatrickLyons wrote:I'v been around this game long enough Lika a Boss to know that slapping Big Bob Mirovic in the face when he's getting punched their by a big heavyweight did nothing in regards to giving him advice to win the fight so Lika a Boss until I see footage of Angelo Dundee/Roach/Garcia or some-one from that league of boxing trainer I will say its one of the dumbest thing i'v seen a trainer do.......was Hyder ever in Tyson corner :??

"The slapping, hitting, or self-induced pain may be a pre-adrenalin physiological pump to get your adrenal glands to be prepared for the real thing. I don't really know and I do not have any scientific data to support this. You may want to research "alpha state" and see if there is science behind it to help explain your questions. I do know that I used to smash into lockers before football games. It just got me psyched up and prepared me for the hitting that was to come. Once I did that, I knew that I was ready to get out on the field".

If you have watched Felix Trinidad fight you will know his cornerman used to slap his face regularly. That cornerman incidentally was his own father.

Re: Quote from legend
Felix and his father stopped talking to each other 2 weeks before the B-HOP fight and his father stopped training him. Consequently Felix didn't get slapped between rounds in that fight like he normally did.ClivePatrickLyons wrote:Like a Boss wrote:If you have watched Felix Trinidad fight you will know his cornerman used to slap his face regularly. Not a legend. But a great quote.
