Brook-Chaves OFF!

Post by johnswan1 »

Kell Brook has been forced out of his IBF World Welterweight title clash with Diego Chaves at the Sheffield Arena on Saturday October 24 after sustaining a rib injury in sparring.
Brook was set to make the third defence of his belt against the dangerous Argentine, but having spent time in hospital with the injury and taking the advice of medical experts following scans, the Sheffield star will now look to face Chaves later in the year.
The Sheffield show goes ahead with the Sky Sports debut of Chris Eubank Jr topping the bill as he defends his WBA Interim World Middleweight title against American Tony Jeter, Gavin McDonnell defends his European Bantamweight strap against former World title challenger Jeremy Parodi, along with a host of exciting young talent on the bill.
“It's always a bitter blow when an injury causes a fight to be postponed, especially so close to the event,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Kell picked up a rib injury in sparring yesterday and spent most of the day at hospital yesterday. Kell was desperate to fight but it was simply impossible and we will now look to reschedule the bout for the end of the year.”
Matchroom Boxing will make a full statement on Monday regarding details of full refunds and partial refunds to those fans still attending the show.

Isn't that also the same night as DeGale vs Bute?

Going a bit pear shaped for Eddie , struggling to see how he's going fill his sky dates over the next 12 months apart from his usual suspects fighting more often .

Always thought they'd struggle to make that pay, so it's perhaps a blessing in disguise that this undoubtedly genuine injury has been sustained.

I think they should start doing an xfactor style phone line for PPV shows. You phone a different number depending on who you want to direct your fee towards.

At least then we could still watch the show and pay fairly but just direct all the money towards the non matchroom fighters. :OhYes:

Boxing is annoyingly unreliable at the moment. No point in booking tickets/sorting transport or even arranging social gatherings around big fights because half the time they don't even materialize.

Bloody hell, I booked the day off work as it was West Ham v Chelsea then Brook Chaves then Klitschko Fury then the kid from Omaha whose name escapes me at the moment.

At this rate I'll just have the football to enjoy.

Unless by some chance West Ham don't win.

+2 They can already sell the Fury PPV without any complaints so now they add this to the AJ bill with Eubank jr v Spike and sell it as a PPV.

watch this fight appear Dec 12th on stacked PPV two weeks after another PPV just before Christmas.

I don't think he is injured unless there are pics of him bandaged up.

Brook isn't needed to either help the Fury fight do well or make the Dec 12th PPV.

Seems genuine to me. Would be way more hassle than it's worth for it not to be.
