Re: How did you train for your Ametuer fights?
Amateur fights. I was in the United States Army when I started really going into the competition.
& I was 20 (joined at 18 soon to be 19....their are "blocks" to gaining special duty time to TRAIN & one ISN'T GONNA be ATTENDING THE WORK OUTS w/o the special assignment)
"Everything Boxing" is your training. One can imagine and come up with routine. OR, after the years I suppose I would think of it that way.
RUNNING 4-5 miles a STRONG part of the conditioning. We would do 10 & more three min rounds floor exercises. When I was 57 (2013) I tried making a RING RETURN & one of my days in
the GYM I work 13 rounds on the Hvy- bags. ('That' is kinda exclusive one exercise but..."tell you what" /it was a GOOD DAY at the GYM!)
Jump Rope; speed bag, spar, shadow box, even I will work "a little bit" with LEG WEIGHT EXERCISES. FINISH: I nearly always cap it with a batch of SIT-UPS. Weigh In/ Weigh Out. [I'm a 153lb "walk around"...]
Boxing too one will rely on their "natural". But...you need to hone it. I mean, when I FIRST GOINTO Boxing I "COULD NOT" control my hands the way I could later. & I'm a "little bit" -tough- -tough- [you WILL see some REAL MEAN PEOPLE, in BOXING but in the "end", -name- is what you are gonna "spy on"]
I've worked some.. as a COACH w/good success.
You WANT TO "WIN". But....winning IS NOT "EVERYTHING". It IS, but it IS NOT. As a COACH I HAVE before COACHED some individual fights I know SOON ENOUGH that MY GUY ISN'T GOING TO TAKE IT....I'll COACH SOMEONE to hang- in & only try to DO GOOD. But, each competition bit different. Pro, I think FIGHTS CAN CHANGE MID RANGE.
