Danny Green confirms December 2nd date with Konni Konrad

FORMER world champion Danny Green continues his comeback on December 2nd, signing to face Germany’s Konni Konrad (22-2-1, 11 KOs) in Melbourne.
Green, 42, ended a near three-year hiatus in August, scoring a comfortable decision over Roberto Bolonti at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena.
At a media gathering at Crown Casino, the popular West Australian confirmed he will next be facing Konrad – who most recently challenged for the WBA light heavyweight title last month – a belt that Green once held.
The Montenegro-born Konrad, 30, has agreed to challenge Green at an agreed cruiserweight catchweight of 86 kilograms as Green continues his transition towards light heavyweight.
“It was good to blow off cobwebs in my last fight,” admitted Green at the press conference. “It wasn’t spectacular but that’s to be expected. It will definitely hold me in good stead,”
“This bloke has just fought Jurgen Braehmer for a world title so he is definitely going to be a very stern test.”
As it has now become the norm, Green also traded barbs with long-time rival Anthony Mundine, who Green is angling to fight at some point next year.
“Mundine has called me aloof,” said Green.
“I’m not sure if I will go to his fight. If I do I am sure he’ll be running the other way,”
“I have also been in touch with Malcolm Turnbull to see if we can accommodate his requests.”

it a ok fight for a man who is in his 40's and on the comeback trail but please stop saying he[Konrad] fought the WBA WORLD Champion in his last fight because we all know that's a lie.

Green to fight Konrad but eyeing Mundine
By Melissa Woods

Veteran boxer Danny Green says arch-rival Anthony Mundine owes it to the Australian sporting public to give them the rematch they want.
It will be a decade next year since the two did battle, with Mundine then declared the victor in front of 30,000 fans at the Sydney Football Stadium.
In Melbourne to announce a December 2 fight against German Konni Konrad, Green said the return bout with Mundine was long overdue.
"It's a fight Australia wants to see and it should have happened a long time ago," Green said.
"Everyone is tired of the excuses; it's becoming boring.
"I'm ready in one corner and it's up to the other banana who's flapping his gums to step up."
Mundine, who himself is fighting in Melbourne on November 11, said last month he had three stipulations for the fight to go ahead.
He wanted the fight to be at the weight of his choosing, Green to be drug-tested and the indigenous people represented on the Australian flag when he wins.
Green joked that he had sent Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull a photo of Mundine to put on the flag instead.
The 42-year-old West Australian planned to use the fight with Konrad to prepare for Mundine.
Beating Argentine Roberto Bolonti in Melbourne in August, it will be his second contest after almost three years out.
Konrad, 30, will present a much tougher opponent than Bolonti.
He has only lost twice, last month outclassed by fellow German Juergen Braehmer, who retained the WBA light-heavyweight title with a stoppage victory.
Green said he felt some ring rust against Bolonti, which was behind his decision to do back-to-back preparations.
"I wasn't as sharp as I could have been and I know that and that's why I want to step up and put two fights together in quick succession for what I anticipate down the track to be a big fight for me," Green said.
"He's a hungry young bloke who's coming to take what I've got.
"We've chosen a guy who's going to test me.
Green's most memorable victory came on the same date in 2009 when he beat eight-time world champion American Roy Jones Jnr, with the fight in Sydney stopped in the first round.
Green said it was coincidence that he was fighting on the same date but hoped for a similar outcome.
"It's completely coincidental but it does bring back some fantastic memories," he said.
"To do it in the first round shocked a lot of people, myself included."

Konni has a padded record but at this stage of greens career after being out for 3 years who cares? This is the type of opposition he should he fighting for at least another couple of fights. At least it will be exciting to watch green knock this guy out in three.
Re: Green fighting Konnie Konrad Dec 2
On paper a very safe fight for Green against a smaller opponent, who has been doing a few 8 rounders in his recent bouts.
The quote that Konrad will be test of where Green is at the moment, can only be regarded as baloney.
Green needs to accept with serenity that him losing even more weight and Mundine porking up so they can meet up in their "Claytons" Clash of the Titans is as empty as a politican's promise.

Green is proceeding sensibly. I'm sure he could find someone who could beat him. But how stupid would it be to take that sort of fight when he can make good money at 42, and been out of for years, fighting imports like Konrad and Bolonti?
I see Konrad contestest the WBA light heavyweight title last up and this fight will probably sell well just like the Bolonti fight did.

who do you expect him to fight given the circumstances? he could fight klitscho and you would bag him.
this is a sensible comeback if he is planning on going somewhere. if he was just looking for a quick payday Im quite sure he lure a light heavy or cruiser weight champion here no problems. even on a world scale green is VERY popular with punters. just look at his social media status.

Look he's an appealing character and was lucky enough to be around the same time as Australias most hated sportsman. But for true boxing fans these fights are jokes. Surely you see that?

True boxing fans will likely see this fight for what it is. Its a strategic fight to ease himself back into contention. surely you can see that?
also as a marketing director I can assure you that any business (and boxing is business) that has that much social media following is worth big biscuits and big biscuits is what it takes to lure high level, high return opposition (jones jr, tarver, wlodarcyzk). Greens fan base on an international level is quite up there as previously demonstrated. please don't confuse this with me saying he is as good as some of the fighters i listed above as that is not my point.

dagoose,
so why spend 24 hours a day 365 days a year harping on about a guy u consider not a true boxer?
wouldn't it be common sense and smart to put your focus on proper boxers then?
maybe u just don't have any common sense huh?

Seeing as Danny Greeny has been campaigning at CRUISERWEIGHT for approx 5 or 6 yrs now I don't think it is to much to ask that he actually fight cruiserweights rather than fighters from lower weight classes. True fight fans don't defend the smoke and mirrors BS that both Greeny and Mundine has both done over the years. Green's popularity figures on social media, particularly in light of Australia's meagre population on a world scale, are quite staggering.
Re: Green fighting Konnie Konrad Dec 2

its very childish at best.

Good lord stock standard response from Green lovers. My favourite fighter was Oscar De La Hoya he could buy and sell Greeny's family ten times over. It's accomplishments that matter and Green has used Mundine as a vehicle to fame and fortune let's be real.Like a Boss wrote:Green has used boxing as a vehicle to wealth and fame, and that it causes a small number of envious people so much angst is really quite hilariousscottearley123456 wrote:I consider myself as much a boxing fan as most on here. OK fair enough if you think this is fight is good fair enough. Im juust saying the opponent is ordinary, fighting 7kg above his weight division and people are asked to fork out $50 or go to the pub club to watch this and the Maloney twins fight some Phillipino/Thai/Indo opponents with dreadful records leading up to a sub par Main event. No thanks.scottearley123456 wrote:I consider myself as much a boxing fan as most on here. Smoke and mirrors ?what are you on about this time?
He is trying to come down in weight gradually after a 3 year lay off. And fight people from the division he is trying to get to. How would you do it? And lets not be so nieve here . Someone who spends as much time wi th their head up danny greens a@# as much as a few of you people who hate him so much know full well that green is fighting at his walk around weight. He isn't 90kgs shrinking down to 86 to fight someone who walks around at 79. If you are a light heavy the chances are you walk around the mid 80 kilos and drop water weight on the day of the weigh in. So your argument about what weights he is fighting light heavies at carries no weight!
