Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
Still pretty peeved that Eggington's fight with Gavin fell through but theres still a few ok fights on this card, this shows just an appetiser for Golovkin-Lemieux anyways
Eggington's rematch with Dale Evans should be competitive,Evans won a SD over Sam in Prizefighter a couple of years ago, which TBF doesnt mean much but Eggington's come on leaps and bounds from then picking up British and Commonwealth Welterweight titles and improving each passing fight, ive only seen Evans once, maybe twice since PF but his records still ok,he got stopped in 5 from Ekundayo but is coming off a decision win over Anwar.....should be close to start with but i reckon after 4 rounds Eggington starts finding his range more and upping the pace, stopping Evans somewhere near the middle rounds
Former Commonwealth Super Flyweight Champ and Olympian Kal Yafai is fighting former Commonwealth Bantamweight champ Jason Cunningham for vacant British Super Flyweight title,i rate Yafai a lot but his careers been blighted with injuries and pointless fights,i thought he would have kicked on after winning the Commonwealth title a few years ago but apart from beating Briceno its been pretty meh,i havent seen too much of Cunningham, didnt see him winning Commonwealth title, his 2 losses were razor thin to Booth and Burkinshaw which is good company but Kal's world class IMO and should get Jason out of there at some point, especially if Cunningham's weight drained

Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
After getting over the disappointment of the Gavin / Eggington fight being cancelled (although still pissed off it seems Hearn is out to rip of the Midlands fans again and move it to London to bulk a ppv) I'm still quite looking forward to this now.
Its still a decent show with plenty of local interest for me (granted if you live outside the Midlands watching on tv its probably rather average).
Eggington/Evans has the whole rematch angle going on and is still a decent fight in my view (its testimont to what Sam's done in the past year or two that people now view this as a gimme). Think Eggington stops Dale mid to late rounds but should be fun while it lasts.
Yafai Cunningham isn't a bad fight for a vacant title, obviously you'd favour Yafai but think Cunningham could course him problems. Think Yafai could stop him mind likely to the body especially if Cunningham struggling at the weight.
Ramadhani isn't a bad fight for Gamal in only his 8th fight either.
Macklin / Welborn really should be a mismatch as long as Macklin's ok at light middle. But again it does have the local derby factor.
A decent Midland area title fight in Hunt v Wiggins (although I would have preffered it to be the Hunt/Pearce rematch) plus hopefully a bit of exposure for Midlands prospects such as Dan Breeze, Jordan Cooke etc. Shame the Cunningham/ Clarke fight is off was really looking forward to that. Wonder if Jon's got any news on Cunninghams replacement opponent?
All in all a pretty much 70/30-75/25 card across the board, not the greatest but certainly not the worst.
Roll on Saturday I've just gotta avoid having too many beers in the arena that I fall asleep when get home and miss GGG/Lemieux

Interesting Ryder turned it down.
Don't know too much about Jones, got a few decent names on his record, mostly losses but not been stopped. Holds a win over Anthony Fitzgerald and draws with Lewis Taylor and John Fewkes. Looks to be better than his 5-11-4 record suggests.

He gave ryder a good work out the weekend so his a good last min sub. Guessing ryder wud want more time to prepare for a 10 rounder
Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
Finding it hard to get excited about this since the Eggington/Gavin fight was postponed. Always enjoy watching Eggington though. Mind you, most shows would be hard to get excited for when you have GGG/Lemuiex and Roman Gonzalez to look forward to later on!

That's a big point, if you are from Birmingham then it isn't too bad as it is mainly local scraps, but to me as someone outside the region, it is up there with Sky's worst card of the year. If you put £10 on the 4 main fights, you return £10.71 - 71p profit. Macklin in 1/12, Eggington is 1/14, K Yafai is 1/33 and Gamal is 1/100 - basically if anyone of those lose they have royally fucke d up and i hate cards where you pretty much know the outcome before it starts. I was actually quite looking forward to C Cunnigham vs Clarke as there was a little bit of intrigue there but i'll be watching the rugby over this and won;t bother to record it.ste1983 wrote:After getting over the disappointment of the Gavin / Eggington fight being cancelled (although still pissed off it seems Hearn is out to rip of the Midlands fans again and move it to London to bulk a ppv) I'm still quite looking forward to this now.

What a top lad Sam is putting it out there acknowledging the local fans etc. And people forget he was only 22 yesterday! At that age I was still a right dickhead.
From seeing him fight at places like the Holte Suite and Tower Ballroom (not even that long ago) it will be great seeing him headline a show at the NIA tomorrow.

Odds arguments are pointless in boxing as bookies often price up fights horribly and the odds often paint a very inaccurate picture, especially when it comes to foreign fighters who most haven't heard of.Paullow wrote:That's a big point, if you are from Birmingham then it isn't too bad as it is mainly local scraps, but to me as someone outside the region, it is up there with Sky's worst card of the year. This is my breakdown from another forum, the Macklin fight might be closer than some are thinking because of questions over Macklin, certainly not because of Welborn's capabilities who is area level at best. Sam Eggington vs Dale Evans - basically we've gone from an eagerly anticipated cross roads fight where it's a must win for one and a great name for the other to have on their record, a real 50/50 fight reflected in the bookies odds. Now we get a 7/1 plodder who if you look at his record since Prizefighter in Januray 2013, has no right whatsoever to be involved in a British title fight, no matter if it is late notice or not. I know Egg gets the chance to right a wrong and that's the only passable thing about this, but if you break down Dale's resume these past 2 years:
58-57 vs Warburton - Warburton is better than his record suggests but you really shouldn't be scraping a win if you are going to headline a Sky card in a big arena. Ochieng 77-76 win, another narrow win, but Ochieng still had a bit of promise at this stage so that's not bad. Drew Mark DOuglas and got off the floor in the second round. Adam Grabiec (never heard of him but a 4-10 record) - dropped a few rounds to him and won 59-57. Stopped in 5 by Larry Ek. Beat Adil Anwar on points (no scores on Boxrec) but Adil has been very poor for years. I understand Dale has had promoter, trainer issues atc in the past and has thought of packing it in, but this is very underwhelming as your main event.
K Yafai vs Jason Cunningham - Stefy Bull had videos in the past raving about Cunnigham, then he goes on to lose to a past it 2 Smooth Booth and Ross Birkinshaw
http://www.oddschecker.com/boxing/ka...ningham/winner
1/25 vs 10/1 type fight
Macklin vs Welbourn - loved the discription of someone on here who called it as 'Macklin vs some pudendum' , might have been @Bill. But again, unless you are from Brum then you don't give a fornicate about this. Welborn has been on our screens a couple of times to biggish names, but both times he has been comprehensively beaten and the only interesting thing here is if Macklin will make weight.
http://www.oddschecker.com/boxing/ma...welborn/winner
Slightly closer this one, just 1/12 vs 7/1 - Hearn's being good to us.
fornicate me - the only fight half of interest Craig Cunnigham vs Lennox Clarke as while i know very little about the latter, he was unbeaten and had a bit of potential to do OK - this would have been like an Anthony Nelson vs Jamie Wilson type of scape - closish and probably a decent little scrap, but again not many people out of the area would give a fornicate, but no, i've just looked on Boxrec and Cunningham is now fighting 5-11-4 Adam Jones, so the one half competitive fight where you don't know the outcome isn't happening.
G Yafai continues his development against a 22/1 Tanzanian plodder.
http://www.oddschecker.com/boxing/ga...madhani/winner
After breaking it down, i actually think this is THE worst Sky card of the year.
It's a big shame that the fight of the night will no longer by sceened live on Spike - Din vs Essomba for the Flyweight commonwealth.
Oh well, New Zealand vs France it is
What's everyone else's thoughts?

Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
Eggington v evans will be a better spectacle than Eggington v Gavin.
Eggington has improved dramatically since his prizefighter loss and whilst he is a clear favourite and Evans is a step or two down from Gavin, Evans will come to fight, come to win and does carry a hefty punch. He'll have a go and will make it a very watchable contest.
I always find Gavin a pretty boring and disappointing boxer to watch.

Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
I agree that it might be a better fight to watch as i have rarely seen a good Gavin fight but at least before you didn't really know who would win and if Eggington did win it would be a great win and a significant name on his resume, now he is in a pretty much no win situation, his opponent has been in decline for a couple of years now, has no direction etc so if Egg doens't win well and look good then he hasn't done what he was supposed to do and if he does, then the general consensus will be meh, it's a mismatch this guy was sparked by Larry and drew with Douglas.CharlesListon wrote:Eggington v evans will be a better spectacle than Eggington v Gavin.

Looking forward to Macklin vs. Wellborn. Chance of a Rocky story.
I would rather they give lower ranked uk fighters a shot rather than knock over eastern european bums.

Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
Can't argue with any of that, will be watching the rugby myself too. Wasn't great to begin with, Gavin-Eggington was a good fight but nothing else on there that really appealed to anyone outside the West Midlands and now that the cards fallen apart it's a bag of shite. Gamal Yafai's opponent weighed in nearly 5lbs underweight, made bantamweight for a super bantam fight. Yafai-Cunningham is ok but Kal should win it easily, Macklin should be several levels above Welborn, if he isn't he needs to retire and if it wasn't for the prizefighter fight, which means absolutely fornicate all in the grand scheme of things, no one would even be questioning the result of Eggington-Evans. Just a series of fairly dull mismatches.Paullow wrote:

eff me - the only fight half of interest Craig Cunnigham vs Lennox Clarke as while i know very little about the latter, he was unbeaten and had a bit of potential to do OK - this would have been like an Anthony Nelson vs Jamie Wilson type of scape - closish and probably a decent little scrap, but again not many people out of the area would give a eff, but no, i've just looked on Boxrec and Cunningham is now fighting 5-11-4 Adam Jones, so the one half competitive fight where you don't know the outcome isn't happening.
G Yafai continues his development against a 22/1 Tanzanian plodder.

I'm flicking between the rugby and this - crowd sounds dead in the arena?
Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
Gamals opponent weighed in 5lbs less than him
Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
Think Yafai needs to be on top of his game to quell Ramadhani. He looks feisty.

Would it be that much of a shock at this stage of Macklin's career? I don't think it would bemaley1984 wrote:wesshaw1985 wrote:Looking forward to Macklin vs. Wellborn. Chance of a Rocky story.
I would rather they give a lower ranked uk fighters a shot rather than a knock over eastern european bums.
WAR Wellborn...
Spot on mate was with his trainer last week they quietly confident. J is in great shape and had a real good camp. Fingers crossed he can pull off a shock. #teamcooper #teamwelborn.

Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
Strange how many fighters from Tanzania have began fighting in Thailand recently, was really impressed by one a couple of weeks ago. The guy fighting Gamal Yafai is up for this as well, enjoy seeing a visitor come to win!
Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
He's not at risk of getting beat here but Gamal needs a fight like this. To be honest based on so far would not be sure he would beat Bobby Jenkinson unless he landed a bomb of course.
Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
I agree he needs to step up but I have only have him a round up going into 7th.Naandrew wrote:He's not at risk of getting beat here but Gamal needs a fight like this. To be honest based on so far would not be sure he would beat Bobby Jenkinson unless he landed a bomb of course.
Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
Gamal clearly can bang from what I have seen from him but he struggles setting the shots up.
Think being too eager to impress in his hometown is his downfall here just needed to take his time and the openings would have appeared. His opponent is no mug though.

Re: Eggington/Evans and Yafai/Cunningham
It's been better a second half of the fight for Yafai. He's coasting to the decision now. Think the experience has done him a power of good though.
