As a British boxing fan I've been following Jeff Horn's career since the 2012 London Olympics, but as he is yet to break into world class level I have had to rely on watching videos online as none of his fights get televised here in the UK. Unfortunately there was no live link that was working where I was able to watch his fight on Thursday and there still is no video that has been posted anywhere that shows this clash against Alfredo Blanco. I had watched Blanco on youtube before and he didn't look great and was disappointed to learn Horn had to go the full 10 rounds distance to beat him. There's been a lot of hype about Horn's punching power and I was hoping he would be the first boxer to stop Blanco inside the distance. Ok, if a guy has purely come over to survive I appreciate it is hard to stop someone who doesn't want to engage punches, but someone like Errol Spence Jnr (another welterweight prospect) is blasting out opponents who have also never been stopped quite regularly. There has been a lot of hype surrounding Horn and I'm beginning to wonder if the talk about him being one of the best prospects ever to come out of Australia are a bit wishful.
Sounds like his next fight will be in December against the French and European Union welterweight champion Ahmed El Mousaoui who is 22(5)-1-1. It's a step up from the like of Alfredo Blanco, but I do fear it will be another points win for Horn rather then an impressive TKO. I don't want to sound like I'm being too harsh on Horn and I do know he has only had 13 professional fights, but he is 27 and with a lengthy amateur career I suppose I'm looking for something a bit more dramatic from him that justifies the hype.
Did anyone on this forum see Horn v Blanco and could they give a honest assessment on Jeff's performance? Also if anyone could post a link to the fight I would be most grateful. Thanks.

I've only seen him fight against Viktor Plotnykov and I was underwhelmed after the praise I'd read. He looked to be a solid but basic fighter and the performance hardly screamed world class potential, even if he has it.

He needs to fix his defence up real fast before he gets exposed against true World class competition,

He looked good against a durable opponent. No full fight footage that I know of here's a 15 minute highlight video.scrap iron wrote:As a British boxing fan I've been following Jeff Horn's career since the 2012 London Olympics, but as he is yet to break into world class level I have had to rely on watching videos online as none of his fights get televised here in the UK. Thanks Da Goose. What's that thing he has strapped around his left bicep? I've seen plenty of boxers have strapping around their knees and thighs, but never on the bicep.

Horn looked short of a gallop against pretty ordinary opposition.
His skills on the back foot leave a lot to be desired.
Ranked 28th in the world by BoxRec.
At the moment he would struggle against anyone ranked above him.

Jeff Horn said he dedicated his win to 2 people, Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes and his grandfather Ray who is recovering from heart surgery. That's what the black armband was all about.

Your a year out mate. Jeff was honoring a young neighbor who died tragically a few days before his fight.
