6 Heavyweight that need to retire.
Re: 6 Heavyweight that need to retire.
Thompson is still showing a good form. Age alone should not determine who retire.
Tarver showed he can still be useful.
Those need to retire who either show a serious decline in form like Adamek or Chagaev. Or those that show physical deterioration like Toney.

Razor Ruddock !!!!
Re: 6 Heavyweight that need to retire.
From the fans point of view I don't think anyone of these should retire(except maybe for Briggs). They could all be good gatekeepers giving the upcoming prospects much more of a test than a long line of bums, or even engage in the fights with each other, that i'd be interested in, and determine if anyone still has some prospects.fergusg wrote:I’d also add the following to your list, either because they’re shot and turned into journeymen or because they’ve already reached the very pinnacle of their career, meaning that they’ll never accomplish more than they already have done (with there being more to life than getting repeatedly punched in the face for the sake of a payday):vovazilvova wrote:There are 6 heavyweight fighters that I think should retire
• Dereck Chisora (31)
• Amir Mansour (42)
• Mike Perez (29)
• Odlanier Solis (35)
• Johnathon Banks (32)
• Eddie Chambers (33)
• Shannon Briggs (43)
Even considering your point Perez is still young and could achive smthn, maybe even hold a piece of a title after Wlad retires, if he can find motivation in failure like Wlad did (though that has probably never happened to Cubans, lol). IMO Mansour is yet to have his biggest fight, he hasn't shown any signs of decline and I could see it happening for him in the near future.

Michael Grant.
He punches like he's in a tarmac cylinder and his punch resistance was questionable even in his prime, 15 years ago.

What a farce Adamek vs Saleta turned out to be. Not a great way for a warrior like Adamek to go out.Gnome wrote:Nine months on and:vovazilvova wrote:There are 6 heavyweight fighters that I think should retire because of age and a high risk of getting seriously hurt if continue competing with younger stronger heavyweights.
01. Tomasz Adamek - Age (37) not so old but he has 52 fights in which he has been hit a lot especially the Klitschko fight.
02. Tony Thompson - Age (42) has 44 fights, 2 beatings from W. Klitschko took a beating from David Price in 2nd fight before knocking price out at 41 years old.
03. Antonio Tarver - Age (45) has no future in Heavyweight division, if he takes a fight for good money from serious puncher can get really hurt.
04. Fres Oquendo - Age (41) 45 fights, has no future in boxing at this age except to keep on getting close fights and hurt for no good reason but money.
05. Kali Meehan - Age (44) made some money in super 8 Tournament, no future in big fights, no need to get hurt at this age.
06. Brian Minto - Age (39) lots of though fights, has taken too many hard punches through out his career, will be nothing but step up for younger fighters.
There is better ways for these guys to make money (if they haven't enough) then by getting hurt in boxing.
01: ADAMEK hasn't fought since, but will have a fairwell fight against SALETA.
02: Tony Thompson beat former top contender Solis, proving himself as the top gatekeeper of the division. #7 in the world.
03: Antonio Tarver beat Johnathan Banks via 7th round KO, world ranked.
04: Fres Oquendo inactive since his Chagaev loss, but has recently (through ligitation) secured another shot at the WBA regular title in the near future.
05: Kali Meehan accounted for Shane Cameron in a big domestic affair, being talked about as an opponent for Parker.
06: Brian Minto had an unsuccessful tilt at the NZ Super 8 cruiserweight tournament - was by most accounts robbed. Will fight on.
Re: 6 Heavyweight that need to retire.
I didn't get to see it, what was farcical about it? All I can gleam from fihgtnews is that Saleta quit on his stool. It says he moved well and outboxed Saleta, but that site's reporting can be quite sketchy at times, to put it nicely.

Re: 6 Heavyweight that need to retire.
Saleta just got tired of being continually jabbed on the nose and was shaking his head to indicate he had had enough before he even sat on his stool. Next he started making injury excuses.Bobbyptsd wrote:I didn't get to see it, what was farcical about it? All I can gleam from fihgtnews is that Saleta quit on his stool. What on Earth did he come back for?
He was done twenty years ago, so why he thinks the sport is missing him when he is 52 years old is beyond me.

I expected to see names like Briggs (who's not even that much of a bum actually in my opinion) or Billy Wright, but no, Thompson?!
What is this list based on?

Both would beat Tarver like a walk in the park. You chaps are so big on retirement that if you got your wishes the heavy division would be thiner than the strawweights.
Re: 6 Heavyweight that need to retire.
I agree with you, Briggs is no bum especially in this weak era where a chin and fast heavy hands can do a lot of damage.asdfjkl wrote:I expected to see names like Briggs (who's not even that much of a bum actually in my opinion) or Billy Wright, but no, Thompson?!

I guess you just don't know Briggs, he can punch hard and he can take a beat.punchoutsb wrote:But Briggs has neither of those things...SFW wrote:I agree with you, Briggs is no bum especially in this weak era where a chin and fast heavy hands can do a lot of damage.asdfjkl wrote:I expected to see names like Briggs (who's not even that much of a bum actually in my opinion) or Billy Wright, but no, Thompson?!

I know Briggs quite well. He's not as tall as a Dutchman, nor is the computer he owns as good as those in the Netherlands despite the influence of Bill Gates.asdfjkl wrote: I guess you just don't know Briggs, he can punch hard and he can take a beat.

I dont understand why Tarver is on this list.... Personally I thought he was robbed against Cunningham... He has demonstrated that he can handle himself with someone of Cunningham's caliber, who gave Fury a tough contest... I'd say let Tarver have a fight or two more with some capable men, and then we can determine whether he should quit or not but at present he is still strong.

Oliver McCall still has never been down in a fight. 71 fights and he has NEVER been knocked down in the HW division. He should fight until someone accomplishes the feat.
