GGG Lemieux (spoiler)

Post by Wales »

Well that was an absolute demolition job.

GGG will end Cottos career if they make that fight, surely a move to 168, but Ward aside, who gives him a fight there? And I can't see Ward staying at 168 to be honest.

GGGs legacy may suffer from lack of "great" opposition.

I don't think anyone beats him at 160. I'm not even sure he wants to go to 168 anyway from the way he's talking, but if does, Ward is obviously his biggest challenge if Ward stayed there.

I think if he can get fights vs. the Cotto/Alvarez winner or Quillin/Jacobs or Lee/Saunders, that he'll continue to get more credit for those. I never thought Lemieux was on his level, I don't think he was GGG's best opponent. It's just a consequence of the 56 different belts thing.

I think he should stay at 160 and dominate there. There is the possibility of a huge bout with the Canelo-Cotto winner, and I think he can make lots of money without a big name opponent.

Winner of Cotto Alvarez is obvious one, personally I think he's too big and too strong for both. I have Alvarez beating Cotto BUT if Cotto were to win GGG would end his career.

I don't see Quillan or Jacobs doing much at all with him, a systematic beat down for either in same vein as tonight.

As for Saunders or Lee - good lord they would be lambs to slaughter.

Ward is the only one for me that stands any chance. Unfortuanatley Ward would make it an awful spectacle.

Shame Froch retired, that would've been fun.

There are options, of course. But I'd give none of them, Ward aside, a chance in hell.

Andy Lee? Come on!

Lara is tricky, granted, but GGG would eventually walk through him.

I dunno perhaps im caught up in tonight's hype / performance. It really was a masterclass and joy to watch. Refreshing to see a fighter fight as often as GGG too.

i have to say that you are right. realy bad froch aint there anymore. he got the height, the big shoulders, simply the strength and power to pose ggg big problems.

as GGG generates more $$, it won't be as hard to make fights.
cotto will not fight GGG even if he beats canelo. he'll vacate, but maybe canelo
would fight GGG for the vacant as GGG is mandatory. lee has said he would fight
GGG, and i could see that happening BEFORE the cotto-canelo winner in may.
not sure if quillin can even make 160 anymore, but that could be another defense.
with each passing fight, GGG becomes a bigger draw and then anyone fighting at
154-168 who can make 160 and is offered a shot will take it, including lara and andrade.
if ward wants to fight GGG, then he can make 160. GGG moving around weight classes
in search of opponents at this point in his career is a bad idea. let them come to him.
he is now the draw.

I understand what you're saying regarding "if they're offered the fight and $$ they'll take it" but my point is, in my opinion, none of them will give him a fight.

Martin Murray was asked what would it take to beat Golovkin? He laughed and said two baseball bats even then I don't think I could. 6 months later he signed to fight him! So I totally understand there are people who will fight him, my point is none of them will give him, or the fans, a contest. Canelo, maybe, but GGG is too big. Ward down to 160? No chance he'll make 160.

Guess it's does GGG want multiple titles at multiple weights or few bucks at middle till retirement. Let's not forget he's 33.
