Andre Ward vs. Alexander Brand

Post by Freedom2013 »

Looks like Andre Ward may now fight Alexander Brand, according to Steve Kim.

Alexander Brand

- age 38
- super middleweight, but he'll need to move up to 175 for the fight
- fought one decent opponent and lost
- has only fought twice outside Columbia
- rather slow-moving
- looks limited, but appears to be a bit better than Murdock
- you can see him on YouTube

Don't know who's the biggest disgrace in boxing ,, The officials allowing this fight ,, Ward for even thinking abopiut it .. Or the people looking after Murdock , willing to see a young man get outclassed and hammerred so they get to strut there stuff on a world stage .... If its true the best thing Murdock can do , is look at theses peanuts and say ,, If thats looking after me and my carreer , you can go get fucked .. Mickey mouse can run it from now on

Well now its confirmed James DeGale is the No.1 SMW.

Is this fight/mismatch going to be on the Canelo-Cotto undercard?

According to the Australian media, the fight is on for the Cotto-Canelo undercard on Nov 21. There will be an official announcement from Ward early this week, probably today.

:TU: , this will be the 4th fight in a row his level of opposition has dropped, he's going so far backwards he'll be in the amateurs this time next year.

Rohan Murdock did beat the 'boxer-hobo' Johnny Noctor so he gets a pass from me

Ward is a disgrace. I have HUGE doubts that he will ever face Kovalev or anybody of that level.

what possible reason is there for this standard of matchmaking. It's embarrassing. Almost like his team have no confidence in him for some reason.

Ward's fans will defend him by saying he's playing it safe as he's going to fight Kovalev next year and they don't want anything to stop that fight from happening, but how is this good preparation for Kovalev? I think he just wants an easy fight so he can look good and impress the fans but nobody will be fooled apart from maybe some Americans.

Is this being sanctioned as a WBA defence or is it at Light-heavy?

Never even heard of his opponent. Crazy to think how he won the super six and now the guy he beat in the finals went on to have more exciting fights, has now retired with a very healthy bank balance.

He won't go anywhere near Kovalev or Golovkin, his matchmaking is just pure comedy now. Maybe he's waiting for a mega showdown with Martin Murray!

Someone said to me in another thread just days ago

"What if Ward fights GGG, Kovalev, Stevenson and Beterbiev?"

Well my friend, I'd credit him as one of the bravest in the history of the game and if he won them all he'd be p4p no1 without question.

But as it stands he's a fornicating laughing stock with less integrity than Amir Khan

Kathy Duva claims the negotiations to fight Ward are progressing well and will be on HBO next year:

Do you dumbasses really think he's gonna fight Kovalev straight away for his first fight at 175? Of course not. He's gonna fight at least 1, maybe 2 fights at 175 first to acclimate to the weight.

He will not gonna fight Kovalev at all. "Negotiations" with Duva serve the same purpose as the "offer" to Golovkin -- publicity. Plus, HBO likely demands the Kovalev fight as a part of the deal. When time comes, Ward will retire citing injury or something like that.

But...this guy?

How many years have to pass since the super 6 final before some people start to admit Ward's matchmaking is dire these days? I get the lawsuit stuff, fine. But you're back, and you're supposed to be elite. fight someone with a pulse. Diddy, he is fighting TRASHMEN!

I tend to agree he wants no part of Kovalev. Don't blame him. Guy comes along who can strip folks of their health and Ward has feather dusters to take to the gunfight.

What was I thinking ? You guys are right. The guy who has dominated fighters like Froch and Kessler is never gonna fight anyone good again. He's scared. Hardly lost a round against elite opposition. Scared though. He should probably just retire. 31. Man he's past it. Time to go, Andre. Quit trying to fool the public. And yourself.

Funny how Golovkin is supposed to face Ward in his first bout at 168,despite having more attractive options out there, yet Ward is allowed fights against Rodirugez, his promoter, Smith and Murdock with people saying he shouldn't fight Kovalev in his first fight at 175.

GGG has more attractive options at 168 than Ward?

Ha, that's a good one. This board is great. You guys really hate America. It's cute.

Who said GGG HAS to fight Ward in his first fight at 168? When were those words uttered? I don't recall seeing them. Nothing wrong with him fighting someone else at the weight first.
