The best boxer 2010-2020

Post by Chepppaaa »

from the ring

1910s: Sam Langford — Small man beat the best big men of his day. Runner up: Jimmy Wilde.
1920s: Benny Leonard — Some still say he’s the greatest lightweight ever. Runner up: Harry Greb.
1930s: Henry Armstrong — Held titles in three weight classes simultaneously. Runner up: Tony Canzoneri.
1940s: Ray Robinson – Untouchable as a welterweight. Runner up: Willie Pep
1950s: Ray Robinson – Also one of the greatest middleweights ever. Runner up: Archie Moore.
1960s: Muhammad Ali – The Greatest really was the greatest at this time. Runner up: Carlos Ortiz.
1970s: Roberto Duran – Virtually untouchable as a lightweight. Runner up: Carlos Monzon.
1980s: Ray Leonard: His victories over Duran, Hearns and Hagler were epic. Runner up: Julio Cesar Chavez.
1990s: Roy Jones Jr. – At his best, he inspired awe. Runner up: Pernell Whitaker.
2000s: Manny Pacquiao – Sorry Floyd but you need to fight the best to be the best. Runner up: Floyd Mayweather.

floyd and manny only had ~6-10 fights from 2000-2015, is that enough for being named best in the 2010 decade?

kovalev is a terror at LH and has a lot of high quality opponent in his division like bertebiev, fonfara or stevenson. he also would be the favourite against ward and a fight looks very likly in the next 24 month. ward would make a case, would he beat kovalev and establish himself as not only the best super middleweight, but best light heavyweight as well.

than there is obviously ggg, same as kova, an destroying monster, who nobody will be able to stop in the next 3 years to come at middleweight if you ask me. at 154 or 147 there is no high profile talent where i would put them on the list, maybe spence.

in lower weight divisions, it gets even more interresting. rigo is the best boxer in the world, but he does not learn english, doesnt seem to be bothered that no one wants to fight him, so you cant become best of the decade when you box nobody and dont push for it. lomachenko, gonzales all have the talent to be consdered #1 in the decade, gonzales more than lomachenko. last but not least inoue, if gonzales would go up in weight class and those 2 meet up, whoever wins would get a huge boost on his resume. inoue is class boxing.

So far it's Floyd Mayweather, but unless he makes a comeback and beats GGG at 154lb, I can't see him being the top fighter of the decade. At this point, my money is on GGG.

Nice piece by Ring. Maybe a case to be made for Hearns runner up to SRL instead of JCC.

It is really early to vote for that. Why not change the poll to 2010-2015 ?

That makes a lot more sense to me.

Guys like Lomachenko, Spence jr, Usik or Beterbiev could dominate the next 5 years or could dissapoint massively.

What happens in the next 5 years is pure guess work

I believe the best boxer of 2010-2020 will be Bobby Casablanca.

You heard it here first.

Ali's resume is split between 2 decades. Harada's resume is far superior in just the 60s

Look at my boy GGG run away with this one. No one's even close.

GGG's soon going to be everywhere. On the products in your cupboards....on every other commercial...on roadside advertising near you. HBO is about to turn on the gas like they did with Manny. This kid is going to be an absolute star.

Including the next 4 years? Willis Meehan? lookin the goods!
(With enormous respect to the NRL), if only he'd go forward with it (boxing that is) now...
Or would he be stopped by Joseph Parker?... What a match-up that would be?!!
