Re: Andre Ward vs. Rohan Murdock
Ward's career is turning into a laughing stock, what on earth does he hope to gain trying to make these kind of fights. I've defended him in the past, but I can now see no logic for defending him. It's shameful.

Has anyone heard word the fight officially won't happen yet? Or just that Nevada are looking into it?

People get hurt in mismatches like this, a young boxer's career could have been ruined.

As much as this might have been Rohan Murdock's lucky day as far as paydays go, the reality is it was a huge mismatch and it is probably better off not happening.Freedom2013 wrote:Several sources in Australia have now said it's officially off.bogan whisperer wrote:Has anyone heard word the fight officially won't happen yet? Props to the Nevada Commission for doing the right thing.

Ward vs. Alexander Brand is now in discussions.

Brand is an age 38 journeyman from Columbia who started boxing at age 32. He's had all but two of his fights in Columbia. He had a loss to Badou Jack three years ago.
He fights at 168, but Ward wants him to move up to 175 for this fight.

Accept SOGgy into your hearts as The Lord and Savior of Boxing. Cease the 3G worship. Only through the grace of God bestowed upon boxing through SOGgy can you experience eternal tomato can beatings.
Re: Andre Ward vs. Rohan Murdock
Serious question: is he still injured or something? There had to be a reason for this excruciatingly safe match making. He would beat everybody in the top ten of SMW (although Degale might test him) and there are LHW top ten guys he could beat fairly easily. Why is he fighting these people? Apart from anything else it is dangerous for the people he fights because he is possibly the best fighter in the world. I know he's not a massive puncher but it is still head trauma. How does he still like himself? I was watching some highlights of him the other day and he is truly an amazing boxer. But I saw him looking so happy after beating up Paul Smith and you have to think, why are you SMILING?! It was like seeing a year 11 laughing after he'd beaten up a first year and stolen his dinner money. It's just weird.Like a Boss wrote:Ward sure seems intent on a no risk opponent.Freedom2013 wrote:Ward vs. Alexander Brand is now in discussions.

It would be great if somebody doing an interview with him outright asked him: "why are your opponents SO bad?" (Like Dennis Pennis asking Steve Martin why he wasn't funny any more). It is a mystery. A sakio bika rematch would suck less. The ghost of b hop would suck less. George 'wobbly legs' Groves coming off his loss would suck less. Callum smith. Sh*t, Nathan Cleverly! Nathan is at least brave and was a world champ and is not a bad fighter and is a proper LHW. Paul Smith was small for a SMW! He should have fought at MW. He dragged him up to LHW! That was terrible, but at least people had heard of him. I have no idea who these two guys are. Where do they find them?
Re: Andre Ward vs. Rohan Murdock
I don't think he would.clopixolacuphase wrote: . He would beat everybody in the top ten of SMW (although Degale might test him)
Unless Ward is on the slide, Kovalev is about the only name I'd give a real shot against Ward, Stevenson included. I think he's far too good for Degale
That's what makes the weak choice of opponents so frustrating.
The guy is elite level and even if this is just a warm up for Kovalev, surely he'd be better testing himself against someone ranked 5-10 in the SMW or LHW division.
Someone like Braemer would be an ideal warm up. Surely you don't want to go in against the most feared man in a new weight class having 2 warm up bouts against club fighters
Re: Andre Ward vs. Alexander Brand
I don't understand why they can't find someone that we have at least heard of. It doesn't have to be anyone good but it seems like they are going for the most obscure dudes they can come up with.

Braehmer is in fact an ideal opponent. Beside a decent warmup, Ward would get the belt putting him into a better position for negotiations with top LHWs. It looks like he doesn't want to be anywhere near top LHWs though.

Is he trawling pubs in the Western United States & asking random blokes if they want a fight or something?
Maybe he's running a benefit scheme for boxing's journeymen to gee them up?
I can't for the life of think why Ward & his cronies would consider fighting opponents of this calibre at this stage in his career.

For me, he's a poor mans Kovalev and Kovalev only narrowly beats Ward IMO.
Even if Beterbiev does eventually prove to be that good, right now he's got a long way to go prove he's an elite level fighter.
Re: Andre Ward vs. Rohan Murdock
If Beterbiev could get Ward, it would take just one fight to prove that he is elite. Not gonna happen though because of Haymon and the shrinking size of Ward's ballz.davie wrote:I never thought of him.ikorolev wrote:Beterbiev would kill Ward.davie wrote: I don't think he would.

Relax guys, he just wants one more easy fight before his next one which will be a good one! His next fight...
Re: Andre Ward vs. Alexander Brand
My guess is they're trying to preserve a Kovalev v Ward fight, but it's like wrapping Andre Ward in cotton wool and bubble wrap.
FFS this is boxing at the highest level.

Lucas Brown has been playing similarly careful to what Ward is in the lead-up to his title fight against Chagaev.
