Joe Parker to face a southpaw for 1st time in Samoa - January 23rd
Joseph Parker will face a southpaw for the first time in his bout in Samoa on January 23rd.
Tagged the Rumble in Paradise, the event will take place at a 1000-seat indoor venue in Apia's sports precinct.
Parker's opponent is yet to be named, but his promoters have confirmed that he will face "a risky left-handed fighter for the very first time".
Parker said he is thrilled to be getting a chance to fight in Samoa, where both his parents were born and the island is a regular holiday destination with his family owning property there.

Parker has certainly achieved a lot at a young age.
With his unbeaten record of 16 wins, including 14 by stoppage, he is currently the youngest fighter in the top 30 in the major boxing organisations.
Parker is now WBO #6, WBA #13, and WBC #14.

Sounds like Chauncy Welliver. Southpaw...check. Risky..check. Would either KO Parker or go the distance....check. My prediction....Welliver TKO 11.

The only risk would be to Chauncy's well being and Parker's reputation for fighting someone like him.
Chauncy was just plain tragic against Lucas Browne. No other word for it. He needs to get as far away from boxing as he can, and as quick as he can.

A publicity photo from a certain clown has his head superimposed onto someone else's body.
Unfortunately the imposter remains steadfastly orthodox and is unwilling to change over to southpaw.

Parkers opponents have not been durable and have not gone rounds. Welliver has never been knocked down. Browne head butted him and then got to Tee off on him while he was blind for 2 rounds and still could not manage it. He showed what would have happened in his next bout with Ustinov in Moscow...he easily went the distance. If not for incompetence Browne vs Welliver would have been a NC after 3 rounds. The butt produced the cut, the video tape even shows Browne's corner admitting it between rounds three and four. Welliver is much riskier than all of Parker's recent opponents because he will at a minimum make Parker go the distance to win. He would not be able to knock Welliver down or out.

Chauncy has lost 6 of his last 8 and has nothing left to give. Boxing has plenty more to take away from him though and the sooner he realises that and hangs up the gloves the better.

There is no trolling going on here. Now if I said Parker could not knock out Nohit Singh or Mark DeMori that would be trolling. Complete crème puff cowards worth less than the sweat on Welliver's jock strap. But with Welliver....421 straight HW rounds without going down. 1,263 minutes which is 21.05 hours of HW ring time without ever tasting any canvas. Only 2 men in all of HW boxing history have gone more time without being dropped. Oliver McCall and George Chuvalo. It is the #1 active streak in all of the boxing weight classes.
And it would be a very easy fight to market in Samoa. Tuaman Tua is also very popular there and Welliver chased a fight with him for years....getting ducked the whole time. All they need to do is tell the people the man has never been knocked down in his career, has hounded the Tuaman, and Joseph Parker is going to try to drop him for the first time ever for it. Then if you want you sprinkle in some trinkets. Former New Zealand HW Champion, former WBO Asia Pacific HW Champion, former WBC Continental Americas HW Champion, former WBO Oriental HW Champion, former WBC China Zone HW CHampion, former WBC Asian Boxing Council HW Champion, former Canadian American Mexican HW Champion, former WBC Youth HW Champion, former Washington State HW Champion. Former #5 ranked WBC HW Contender, former #6 ranked WBO HW Contender.
What more do you want in a fight both ways? For Parker a guy who will last a long time to get some work in and to provide the fans with more time to see him in action. Also an opportunity to do what no other man, including Browne could do, knock Welliver down. And for Welliver it would hopefully be a good payday, in an awesome place like Samoa, and on the off chance he wins the fight a huge boost for his career and back into the rankings. And even if he did not win the fight, going the distance against Parker right now would still be a big statement as everybody else is folding like a lawn chair. So it is a win win for all involved, both fighters and the fans. And this is not a bit trolling.
