Zac Dunn will now face Derrick Findley after Denis Douglin burst an eardrum only days out from the fight:

Star Boxing’s Zac Dunn to Face Derrick Findley

Denis Douglin is out, and the veteran Derrick Findley (22-16-1, 14 KOs) is in as the opponent for Star Boxing’s undefeated, Australian sensation Zac Dunn in the super middleweight Main Event on Saturday night, October 24th, at The Paramount in Huntington, New York.

Douglin perforated his left ear drum in a recent sparring session, and is not fit to fight under doctor’s orders, it was announced today by Star Boxing president Joe DeGuardia. Due to the 11th hour injury, Dunn’s American unveiling will not be in defense of his IBO Super Middleweight Championship, and is instead a 10-round contest.

Tough luck, but this fight just got a lot more interesting.

Findley is a tough, heavy-handed spoiler, Douglin isn't.

Dunn will likely have to do it the hard way against Findley, because I doubt he'll be able to stop him.

Findley has only been stopped twice in 40 fights, and that was at the hands of Andre Dirrell and Edwin Rodriguez.

If Dunn chooses to slug it out, he could get upset.

Zac Dunn = WBC #8 = enough to get him "in the mood"?

Zac Dunn weighed in at 168.02 lbs

Derrick Findley came in light at 165 lbs

The difference in height also quite apparent in the picture.

Won't matter much. Findley is used to fighting taller guys, and Dunn doesn't make much use of his height and reach anyway.

If Dunn learned anything from his last fight it is that he must make better use of his height and reach.

Barry Michael had this to say after the fight:

"We trained for a southpaw. Findley is an animal and he goes the distance with everyone. The people sitting with me thought Zac won UD. Findley was a big wrap for Zac. The body shots hurt him and he could barely talk after the fight. They love us here. To all the smartarses. We won in America. Thank you!"

Thanks for the report. "The body shots hurt him" means hurt Findley or Zac?

Reports are it was a very entertaining fight:

https://www.boxing247.com/press-boxing/ ... dley/48690

Undefeated IBO Super Middleweight Champion Dunn faced veteran tough guy Derrick Findley and the duo engaged in a Fight of the Year type fight over 10 rounds. Dunn won the thrilling split decision by two scores of 95-94, while the third judge had the same score in favor of Findley.

From the opening bell, the raucous crowd knew they were in for a barn-burner, as the Australian and Findley went toe-to-toe, throwing bombs in a nonstop fashion.

Midway through the second round, Findley caught Dunn pulling back after an exchange with a big left, dropping the Aussie on the seat of his pants. Dunn jumped right up and continued his attack on Findley, dominating the rest of the round.

The pattern continued for the remainder of the fight with Dunn as the aggressor and throwing at an extremely high volume of punches, while Findley countered with huge shots of his own.

The final three rounds saw Dunn’s relentless pressure and sustained head and body attack increase as he outpaced the cagey and gutsy veteran. The crowd sensed Dunn’s quest for another knockout, yet when the bell sounded for round 10, both fighters roared out from their corners and let it all hang out. The crowd rose to its feet and roared its approval. Dunn, continuing his late fight dominance, captured round 10, which sealed the deal for him.

DeGuardia, who never disappoints the Paramount fight brethren, had this to say about the main event: “What an incredible fight tonight here at The Paramount. Zac Dunn and Derrick Findley showed unbelievable heart and the desire to win. This ranks among the most captivating fights ‘Ive seen all year and Dunn clearly showed what an incredibly TV and fan friendly-style he has.”

Dunn did it the hard way like I predicted he would. Not sure Dunn is in for a long career the way he goes about things. It is going to take its toll.
