The long and short of it, was he longed to be a gangster - and he ended up becoming one, well, in his own mind anyway, he starting knocking out crack, and associating with a lot of very dodgy people, some of whom were genuine hard nuts. In the end, he kind of got what he was looking for, because he got caught on camera during operation bumblebee supplying crack to prostitutes, and was done up like a kipper. His parents had their door smashed in on Christmas day. He was however a complete and utter coward, and he convinced his poor younger brother, to take the heat for him, and paid him for his time. In the end though his brother disowned him, he got nicked again at a later date, and went to jail.

Last I heard, he was driving a bus. Not quite as gangster as he'd hoped I'd guess.

I guess the point I'm making is that it's possible Atlas is nowhere near as much of anything as he claims. He is certainly unstable, and quite annoying at times, and nowhere near the trainer he would like to believe. Some people would rather be a part of a world they really have no business being in, but it doesn't stop them getting involved.
I know. There are middle class guys who go nuts and get involved. There's a guy I heard from Dulwich college whose mother owns a long term shop in kings road. But he was seduced by the villainous life and shot some guy coming out of prison. Now doing life. It happens. But all I'm saying is that not only does Atlas story not ring true, but there is zero, I mean ZERO record of his claims..... He s a fake, a liar, and a guy who was born into a privileged family who wished he was tough and plays this role. Along with his fake scar
Funnily enough, there was this kid called AV - I don't know what his real name was, for all I know that was his real name, but he used to hang out in Holland Park, and was doing drugs from a young age, always hanging out with much older people, he was like 10 when he was hanging out with my crew, who were maybe 17-19, smoking weed and doing acid, and he ended up getting into drugs big time, then falling in with some proper wrong uns. They got him to go into a shop to rob it, he shot the shopkeeper at close range with a shotgun, and went to I think, juvenile detention. Not sure whatever happened to him, but his family were absolutely stinking rich, they had one of those houses on notting hill gate itself - which have a huge driveway, must have been worth millions even back in the 1980's. Similar tale.

I never really investigated Atlas' claims too much - I guess I just don't really care. I just think he's a bore most of the time. There's definitely loads of bullshitters in boxing, like other walks of life.

I think he has some good insights into boxing and he can explain things well but he's too full of himself and has told some untruths to make a legend of himself - he does things for other people through the foundation nothing so he's not a horrible man, just a nutcase.

I'd say that chimes with what I think. Like many other people, the truth doesn't suffice in providing the image of himself he'd like to have, so he's embellished reality a bit. Doesn't make him a mass murderer or rapist, just a bit of a bullshitter.

I'm actually quite like Teddy Atlas. I also think he's a good commentator. I enjoyed Friday Fight nights when he was involved.

His book is very good. The truth should never get in the way of a good story.

No one is accusing him of an awful crime; and let's be clear he's done well for himself. But being a persistent bullshiter and liar are not good character traits either. Especially when you lie about attempting to murder someone to try and enhance your status. I mean how can anyone read his book with any level of seriousness when Atlas is a consistent liar.

Teddy Atlas was Golden Gloves champion of The Adirondaks. Nuff said.

I liked his commentary on Ward-Burton, sounded like an awestruck fan. He also commentated on that infamous fight (was it Butler?) where the guy sparked out his opponent after the fight. Atlas' angry reaction tells me at least he has some scruples.

He's a full-blown blowhard most of the time, though.

Early days, pretty much adopting that little lad, really enjoyable,
I always thought at atlas one one tough ..... But showed a nice side on this
Anyone got a link to this please? On another note I found his book gripping even if I did find parts of it exaggerated.
