Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
Jeff Powell from the Daily Mail reporting this is close to being made as co feature to Lee/Saunders.
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
Good name for Smith and would generate interest because Mosley is obviously a 'name' but he is shot to pieces! The Mayorga debacle was a tough watch even though he won. Smith by stoppage mid to late rounds.

Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
I suspect this is a PR exercise with the aim of raising Liam's profile. It would take serious wonga to bring Shane over and I think the budget available for the Dec challenger will be a zero or two short of what Shane would want.
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
I read next year somewhere. But agree I would have loved to have seen Moseley in his prime but not the current one.
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
Come to think of it would the board allow him to box?
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
Hopefully this is just a PR stunt - boxing is the cruelest of sports and I don't take pleasure in seeing aged legends continue to box younger lads who could not lace their gloves when they were in their prime.
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
I really hope its not taking place, the angle of the story suggests it's a deliberate ploy to try and get the bill on US tv and apparently Mosley would make it an easier sell. Find the whole thing sad really, he is so clearly a light of former days and he can surely only be driven by money to keep fighting which presumably means things ain't going so well on that front.
Hopefully for whatever reason, Liam will get a decent opponent on Dec 19th and continue to learn his craft.

Some quotes from Mosley here - http://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12 ... liam-smith
Seems like the rematch clause is the only hold up and he's being unreasonable enough with it to potentially block the fight.

Can someone with 2 wins in 5 years fight for a world title?
If Shane has 30% left of what he was its competitive , I fear he hasn't

It's sad he's still fighting, he was a brilliant fighter in his prime the ODH fights were amazing.
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
I wouldn't rule out a Mosley win at all.
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
The guy has been totally shot for about 5 years at least. That said Smith is yet to prove he is really past domestic level so Mosley might be competitive for a bit, but he really should not be fighting anymore.
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
yip those were probably my best times watching boxing
Delahoya / mosley / mayorga / forrest and then had Barrera /Morales ect also

Mosley is 44 years old and he turned pro way back in 1993...he's been taking some steady beatings as he's slowed down, it's sad to see and he's going to end up punchy at this rate. A Godawful cynical match.

I wouldn't describe Mosley as shot.Flump wrote:The guy has been totally shot for about 5 years at least. That said Smith is yet to prove he is really past domestic level so Mosley might be competitive for a bit, but he really should not be fighting anymore.
He is nowhere near the fighter he once was, but he's still good enough to beat quite a few folks. He's certainly in shape, he's just lost the reflexes to fight the style he used to have.
The problem is he relied on his lightning reflexes a lot, to avoid being hit, and he also has a great chin, this means he's going to take a lot of shots in his latter career, and that's definitely not a good thing.
Sad thing is, I think he's pretty broke after his divorce from his previous wife took him to the cleaners.

The cynic in me wonders if this is purposeful distraction at a time when terry flanaghan has been withdrawn from the show. I am rooting for fwank to pull off perhaps the biggest domestic show of the year but flanaghan is now off the bill, lee/Saunders will probably fall through again and in all likelihood Liam smith will face a patsy in his first defence. Hope I am wrong.

I actually give Mosley a chance here.
Surely they couldn't afford him though. He wouldn't come cheap.
I think this would be a great match-up. Great way to boost Liam Smiths profile and Mosley gets a title shot against someone unlikely to give him a severe beating.
If the money's right then everyone's a winner.

Naturally, Mosley's not ranked by the WBO.

Do you think the Lee v Saunders bout is jinxed, Jim?JimJim2009 wrote:The cynic in me wonders if this is purposeful distraction at a time when terry flanaghan has been withdrawn from the show. I doubt we'll see another pullout at this stage, a fight for the title will go ahead on December 19th whether it's between Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders or not, unless they can't pass the medical pulling out would be stupid for both fighters.palooka wrote:Do you think the Lee v Saunders bout is jinxed, Jim?JimJim2009 wrote:The cynic in me wonders if this is purposeful distraction at a time when terry flanaghan has been withdrawn from the show. Yep, but not in a conspiracy theory 'it was never going to happen' sort of way. God knows why so many fights fall through these days, I am sure fwank wants it to happen more than anyone else, but I'll believe it when I see them both in the ring. I do hope it happens.palooka wrote:Do you think the Lee v Saunders bout is jinxed, Jim?JimJim2009 wrote:The cynic in me wonders if this is purposeful distraction at a time when terry flanaghan has been withdrawn from the show.
