Crawford needs to go to the welterweight division

Post by Chepppaaa »

he is by far the best light welterweight in the world and there is simply no point in staying at lw.

matthyse is out of his prime. broner is to weak for him. postol and rances are the only 2 fights that matters, both very tall, both solid technicly, both undefeated. but nothing in comparison what would wait for him at ww: brook, spence, thurman, maidana, bradley, khan, porter.....

I have to agree with you here. I'd like to see him fight Postol before jumping up but i do agree that the money is at Welterweight. The most frustrating thing is that we've been saying those names above for the last two years and still none of them will fight each other. Clearly the most talented weight class in boxing but no one will fight each other. It's a joke.

He's only had 2 fights at LWW against fairly poor opposition.
As much as I'd like to see him in the mix with the WW division, I don't see the hurry, there's a few names available at LWW. The 4 you mentioned would be worth fighting and a step up from Jean and Dulorme.

Is Jessie Vargas done with LWW?
Figueroa, Providnikov wouldn't be bad choices, a unification with Cuenca
And it's not outrageous to imagine Amir Imam might get a shot at a title in the next 12 months and be on his radar too at some point.

None of these are super fights by any means but decent challenges and decent paydays
And if he were to fight 3 or 4 of the names listed above over the next 2 years, he'd be credited with building a half decent resume at 140lbs. And give himself time before doing a Broner and rushing up through the weight classes

Also if anyone thinks he goes up to WW and walks straight in with Pacquiao, brook, spence, thurman, maidana, bradley, khan, porter they're dreaming.
Look at the matchmaking he had for his introduction to the LWW division. I suspect his promoter would make a similarly cautious step up to 147lbs.

I'd rather see Crawford/Postol first, although it looks like that may not happen.

I think Crawford wanted Postol, certainly more than Garcia did, and wanted to fight the best guy out there but the idea of Pacquiao started floating around and TC turned his attention that way, stay busy fights in the meantime.. the significance of a fight with Manny is worth wait.

Crawford just moved to 140, and now he needs to move to 147?
