Good point expe and given the previous cancellations I would have thought fwank would want, if possible, to have a standby opponent ready to be called in.expe wrote:I doubt we'll see another pullout at this stage, a fight for the title will go ahead on December 19th whether it's between Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders or not, unless they can't pass the medical pulling out would be stupid for both fighters.palooka wrote:Do you think the Lee v Saunders bout is jinxed, Jim?JimJim2009 wrote:The cynic in me wonders if this is purposeful distraction at a time when terry flanaghan has been withdrawn from the show. I am rooting for fwank to pull off perhaps the biggest domestic show of the year but flanaghan is now off the bill, lee/Saunders will probably fall through again and in all likelihood Liam smith will face a patsy in his first defence. Hope I am wrong.

Will just be the next available contender. Arif Magomedov is ranked 2 so he would be next in line if he accepts, otherwise they'd just keep going down the rankings until someone else takes the fight. Tommy Langford who's on the undercard is number 5 in the WBO rankings and it wouldn't surprise me if he got the fight if Lee or Saunders pulled out. As much as it would hurt the show, I think Fwank would be quite happy if Lee pulled out and Saunders got an easy opponent for the vacant title.JimJim2009 wrote:Good point expe and given the previous cancellations I would have thought fwank would want, if possible, to have a standby opponent ready to be called in.expe wrote:I doubt we'll see another pullout at this stage, a fight for the title will go ahead on December 19th whether it's between Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders or not, unless they can't pass the medical pulling out would be stupid for both fighters.palooka wrote: Do you think the Lee v Saunders bout is jinxed, Jim?

Ah yeah makes sense why Langford is on the bill. Get him in training and ready for that date as a worse case scenario.
Hope Lee Saunders happens though it is a good fight

Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
Hes not fighting. Rekons Smith is demanding an immediate re-match clause and Mosley doesnt want to in case he loses twice. FFS.
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
Why do challengers who aren't mandatory always seem to moan about a rematch clause when being offered a title fight.
It is common practice for a voluntary defence to have a rematch clause written into the contract.
Didn't Rios give the same reason for not taking the Brook fight?

Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
Probably because he is the bigger name. I dont think he had any intention of fighting him. First he was saying he wouldn't be on any under card, he must be main event etc. He is now complaining that if he loses, the rematch must be immediate, and he might lose again giving a LL on his record. Load of sh*te.

Surely the rematch clause only comes into force if Mosely wins?

agree SSM is shot but he is still way to much for an average Smith..this is a PR stunt designed to get Smith some exposure...not a chance this happens
Smith v TBA
Smith v TBA
Re: Liam Smith/Mosley Dec 19th rumoured
Too many stupid demands from Mosley. He had to be the main event, his son had to be on the undercard, the rematch could only be within 8 weeks, or it would have to be in October 2016, but if he won by KO there couldn't be a rematch.

Don't want to split hairs James but aren't those some of the symptoms of a shot fighter? Sounds a bit like you're describing Muhammad Ali at the end of his career.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I wouldn't describe Mosley as shot.Flump wrote:The guy has been totally shot for about 5 years at least. That said Smith is yet to prove he is really past domestic level so Mosley might be competitive for a bit, but he really should not be fighting anymore.
He is nowhere near the fighter he once was, but he's still good enough to beat quite a few folks. He's certainly in shape, he's just lost the reflexes to fight the style he used to have.
The problem is he relied on his lightning reflexes a lot, to avoid being hit, and he also has a great chin, this means he's going to take a lot of shots in his latter career, and that's definitely not a good thing.
Sad thing is, I think he's pretty broke after his divorce from his previous wife took him to the cleaners.

I think Mosley could give Smith plenty to think about with his ring craft and experience. He's past his best obviously but not shot in the Katsidis mode. Will Smith even fight on this bill now ? I am starting to wonder

No, reflexes degrade with time, that's natural, - Ali had parkinsonism, and couldn't really pull the trigger any more, certainly by the time he got to berbick.Flump wrote:Don't want to split hairs James but aren't those some of the symptoms of a shot fighter? Mosley is in much better physical shape than Ali was at 37, - Ali was soft and pudgy, was taking diuretics to make weight, had tremors in his hands and speech already.
He might not be what he was, but Mosley is not shot.
I'm not saying I'm keen on him fighting on having said that.

Good fight for who ever wins its the best chance that Moseley will ever have to hold a [legit]World title again and Smith will get his name out there
and probably get some big fight in the state's in the near future
Or Anthony Mundine could Challenge the winner
