donovan ruddock vs joe frazier ? prime ?

Post by donking »

who wins and why can joe frazier take the smash coming in ???? can donovan go at a fast joe frazier pace ? what if donovan backs joe frazier up ? and joe cant get any leverage on his punches ??? can donovan take joe brutal body attack ???

Ruddock is no George Foreman. He could hurt and maybe even floor Frazier early but Frazier would initiate a one-sided beatdown from the 2nd round to whenever it gets stopped by the ref.

Frazier always wins, but it depends which Ruddock turns up as to how the fight goes.

Ruddock started off as a decent boxer & that version would have give Joe problems but would have lost a decision.

The later version of Ruddock who became drunk on his power & just stood there trying to take his opponent's head off would have got brutalised by Frazier in a rough & tumble war.

It would be a similarish fight to the Tyson one. With Frazier probably getting a decision, unless Ruddock landed one of them uppercut bombs! Tyson could take it but would Frazier? probably not, we saw what happened when Foreman connected.

frazier doesn't get frustrated and keeps
coming round after round. if mike didn't
get it his way early he was half beaten
already.

The Tyson that fought Ruddock was a one dimensional slugger that rarely threw combinations nor moved his head anymore.

Tyson was still young when he fought Ruddock, but he was a long way removed from the Tyson of just 3 years before.

Tyson '86 - '88 would have flattened Ruddock inside 6, but Tyson '91 struggled with him & gained a fortunate stoppage the first time around.

An early stoppage maybe but not fortunate? far from it Ruddock would have been stopped a few seconds later anyway, he was all over the place from that left hook and right hand.

I would think Ruddock's size and power could pose a problem for Frazier. Did any of Frazier's opponents possess Ruddock's strength? Ruddock was about 25 pounds heavier in his prime.

Very cool dream match up!
Me? I think this would have been a bad match up for Joe.
Ruddock's size, power & awkward, but effective style may have led him to an upset KO win.
Far from a sure thing though as Joe may have weathered some early rocky moments & pressured his way to a win with his work rate.

Oscar Bonavena, Joe Bugner, George Chuvalo, Buster Mathis, Ali etc.

Joe Frazier in his prime was oodles better than a 1991 headhunting Tyson.

This fight won't go to the cards.

Frazier runs Razor out the building by the 9th.
