Connor Benn - any good?
Connor Benn - any good?
Has anyone seen young Conor Benn in action? Any good, or just be pushed so far on his dads name?

Re: Connor Benn - any good?
I've seen him on pads and a bag, looked decent but that doesn't mean a thing.
I think its probably way to early for any realistic predictions. His name will naturally bring its pluses and downsides.
He is a very quiet, polite and personable lad.He certainly doesn't mouth off with what he's going to do and achieve. I hope he does well.

If he has an ounce of his fathers genes, he will be at least very decent.CharlesListon wrote:I've seen him on pads and a bag, looked decent but that doesn't mean a thing.

He needs to fight though, hanging around gyms isn't enough.

Hi all
Yes, Ricky is Conor's trainer now, although he has also been doing some work with Tony Sims while he has been down south visiting family etc.
Nigel brought Conor to Ricky's gym because he feels Ricky can add to his game.
He's an amateur at present and there's no rush for the kid. He wants to turn over, but his dad feels he should get more experience in the unpaid ranks first. He's had a fair few fights in Australia and I believe he beat a national champion down there, but like I say, neither Ricky or Nigel are looking to rush things with him.
Here's a chat I had with him a couple of months back - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5HyAZPSwBU

Looks like a young Nigel. Will be waiting with excitement when he turns pro. If he has half the balls his dad had he will go far.

Jimmy Tibbs took him on the pads and looked impressed by him, he looks a good prospect but still a very long way to go. Is there any footage from his fights in OZ

Waste of ink. Pure made up rubbish. It's like me hoping to go.
Re: Connor Benn - any good?
So, despite what is effectively a social media campaign, interviews in the national press and YouTube interviews etc. nobody actually know his amateur record ?
Rio? - I am not an expert on the amateur set up but if you haven't been on the GB squad for the last 3 years and competed in the qualification tournaments then nobody at this stage is going to get on the squad, it doesn't matter who your dad is.

Re: Connor Benn - any good?
He's had 22 bouts winning 20. He's going to box at welterweight.
Re: Connor Benn - any good?
He and his dad were on Talksport on Colin Murray today. It's worth a listen.

Is he in another country's squad? He'll still have to qualify. He'd highly likely get stood on his head the first accomplished boxer he meets.jessi wrote:Boxing for another countrybripez wrote:So, despite what is effectively a social media campaign, interviews in the national press and YouTube interviews etc. nobody actually know his amateur record ?

Re: Connor Benn - any good?
I can't comment on how good he is as I've never seen him box, heard from a friend its Trinidad or Barbados or something like that
Re: Connor Benn - any good?
I saw an interview a while ago on IFL when Connor or his dad said he's not going to Rio.mickey1975 wrote:Is he in another country's squad? He'll still have to qualify. He said in an interview it would be Barbados.jessi wrote:I can't comment on how good he is as I've never seen him box, heard from a friend its Trinidad or Barbados or something like that
It seems he is trying to sneak in the back door representing his grandfathers country of birth.
I doubt it will be that simple though.
