Everyone assuming Canelo or Cotto vs GGG BUT...
Everyone assuming Canelo or Cotto vs GGG BUT...
Playing devils advocate, everyone assumes the winner faces the much bigger GGG, but could the winner of Canelo Cotto not be tempted into a second fight with Floyd, next May, for mega money? Shed loads more than the GGG a fight, and at the lower weight against an ageing opponent that both would fancy their chances against.
Just a thought... And if so where does it leave GGG... winner of Lee Saunders hardly sets pulse racing or helps cement a legacy!

Re: Everyone assuming Canelo or Cotto vs GGG BUT...
I hope there is a KO, so no need for a rematch. If Mayweather is in the picture, WBC wil likely allow Canelo/Cotto to get yet another pass. Otherwise they should strip the winner if he doesn't want to fight GGG.
Lee/Saunders winner will have WBO belt, and that is what Gennady wants. Getting 4 belts and becoming an undisputed champion (quite possibly still the only one) will be a good base for building his legacy.

If Mayweather fights again I can't see it being against anyone other than Paquiao. But I don't see Canelo or Cotto fighting GGG soon, or probably ever.

Lee/Saunders V GGG is a terrible fight. At 33 GGG a needs to move quickly to cement a legacy.ikorolev wrote:I hope there is a KO, so no need for a rematch. In historical terms Lee fighting Saunders for the WBO title is like two bald men fighting over a broken comb. Be sad to see GGG waste 6months waiting to fight the winner!

Pacquiao, really?
After their first encounter exactly how much interest would there be in a rematch?
Absolutely no chance.

Are you a legacy consultant ? Well, GGG doesn't need you then. He clearly said that he wants all MW belts, so he is fighting people having those belts.Wales wrote:Lee/Saunders V GGG is a terrible fight. LOL no not a legacy consultant
But I know basic business and the winner of Lee Saunders simply doesn't sell. Which is fine if GGG ain't arsed about making money, but at 33, and with K2 behind him, surely they'll be looking to capitalise on big money fights?!

There would be more interest in that than there was against Berto, that's a no brainerWales wrote:bogan whisperer wrote:If Mayweather fights again I can't see it being against anyone other than Paquiao. But I don't see Canelo or Cotto fighting GGG soon, or probably ever.

canelo vs floyd II is a fight no one wants to see.Wales wrote:Playing devils advocate, everyone assumes the winner faces the much bigger GGG, but could the winner of Canelo Cotto not be tempted into a second fight with Floyd, next May, for mega money? cotto would be more interesting, but still quite
predictable. the only fight floyd would come back
for is pac II, due to the injury debate.

they both signed contracts with GGG as well as the WBC in order to let the canelo-cotto fight happen.ikorolev wrote:If Mayweather is in the picture, WBC wil likely allow Canelo/Cotto to get yet another pass.
the WBC has broken its own rules in the past (and only by the grace of rocchigiani does it still exist
after the court case), and maybe they would have the guts to break a contract, but GGG would need
another sizeable step-aside incentive. he got $2mil for taking lemieux's IBF in order to allow the
cotto-canelo fight to happen. i would imagine for him to step aside again, the price would be MUCH
higher. otherwise, nogo. if mayweather came back, it would probably be for the WBC 154 title he
hasn't legitimately defended in years but somehow still has, or even more likely at 147.
